The Sims: Legacy Collection and The Sims 2: Legacy Collection launched on Steam on January 31, 2025, alongside the EA app and Epic Games Store. Steam players need linked Steam and EA accounts to play. Here’s what each collection includes and what to check before buying.
What’s in each Legacy Collection?
Each collection includes its base game and a specific set of add-ons. They do not include every historical expansion or stuff pack.

The Sims 25th Birthday Bundle
EA says the bundle contains both Legacy Collections. If you’re choosing between the bundle and separate purchases, compare their current prices in your region and make sure the bundle includes the game or games you want.
Windows support and minimum requirements
EA describes both rereleases as supporting modern Windows PCs, with Windows 10 and 11 named in its release information and storefront descriptions. EA Help lists these minimum requirements for both collections:

- Storage: 16 GB free space listed by EA Help
- Graphics: Nvidia GTX 600 series or later, AMD Radeon HD 7000 series or later, or Intel HD Graphics 620 series or later
Steam lists 17 GB of storage for its Sims 2 collection, rather than EA Help’s 16 GB general minimum. Check the current listing for the collection you plan to install, since storefront requirements can differ. The requirements are listed on EA Help’s Sims 2 page, EA Help’s Sims page, and the Steam Sims 2 listing.
What changed in the rereleases?
EA says the original The Sims was rebuilt for modern operating systems, with Vulkan support, widescreen support, and higher-quality textures. For The Sims 2, EA describes an update for Windows 10/11 and DirectX 9.c that preserves the original gameplay and graphics. Some legacy bugs considered safe to fix were addressed; EA says other bugs were left alone when changing them risked causing problems.

Official Sims Team patch notes report stability and window-management improvements. They also warn that performance on Intel Arc systems can be sub-optimal for DirectX 9 games. The notes do not establish that every compatibility issue is fixed or that performance is consistent across hardware. See the Sims 2 Steam announcements for patch updates.
Steam account and purchase requirements
Steam’s listing requires an internet connection, a Steam account, an EA account, and linking the two accounts to play. It also says access is limited to one EA account and one Steam account, and that a purchase is non-transferable after purchase. Review the Steam listing before checkout for the terms shown for the collection.

Can you use old saves or mods?
Moving save files
EA says uncorrupted save files from older installations can work with the current versions, but the save locations have changed. You’ll need to copy the files into the new location; EA Help provides the relevant save and file guidance for The Sims and The Sims 2.
Mods
Maxis has not tested or supported mods for these collections. Whether a mod works is up to its creator, so check for compatibility information from the individual mod author before using it.

Launch prices and current availability
At launch in 2025, EA listed retail prices of $19.99 for The Sims: Legacy Collection, $29.99 for The Sims 2: Legacy Collection, and $39.99 for the The Sims 25th Birthday Bundle. Those are historical launch prices, not a statement of today’s price. Steam pricing and promotions vary by region and over time, so check your local Steam or EA storefront before purchasing.
