The Talos Principle: Reawakened Reviews — Is the Remaster Worth Playing?

The Talos Principle: Reawakened bundles the original campaign and Road to Gehenna with a new chapter and updated presentation. Here’s what reviews say and what PC hardware it lists.

The Talos Principle: Reawakened is an expanded remaster of the original puzzle adventure, not a new sequel. It brings back the original campaign and Road to Gehenna, adds a new chapter called In the Beginning, and updates the presentation and tools. Critics have rated it highly, while player aggregates are more mixed. Whether it is the right version for you depends on how much you value the new chapter and presentation—and whether your PC can handle its listed requirements.

What is included in The Talos Principle: Reawakened?

Released on 10 April 2025, The Talos Principle: Reawakened was developed by Croteam and published by Devolver Digital. The official Steam listing describes it as a definitive, remastered and expanded edition. It includes:

  • The original The Talos Principle experience.
  • Road to Gehenna, the original game’s expansion.
  • In the Beginning, a new chapter centered on Alexandra Drennan as she faces existential questions and arranges the Simulation’s first critical test.

The same listing says the game was rebuilt with Unreal Engine 5, with enhanced lighting, textures and environments, quality-of-life updates, and a puzzle editor for creating challenges. Those are the publisher’s description of the edition, rather than a guarantee that every visual change or performance improvement will suit every player.

Croteam said the project incorporated a decade of community feedback in its 10 April 2025 launch announcement. The game is listed for Windows PC on Steam and for PS5 on the official PlayStation page.

What do reviews say?

Review aggregates point to strong critical reception and a less uniformly enthusiastic player response. The figures below are snapshots, not permanent scores; services update their ratings and review counts over time.

Source Snapshot What it indicates
Metacritic, accessed 2026 89 Metascore from 14 critic reviews; 6.8 user score from 93 ratings Metacritic labels the critic score “Generally Favorable”; user ratings are more divided.
Steam, accessed 2026 90% positive from 1,105 all-time reviews; 85% positive from 28 recent reviews Both snapshots are positive, with the smaller recent sample lower than the all-time figure.

Selected reviews on Metacritic praise the puzzle design, refreshed presentation and new chapter. The same page also shows individual reviewers raising concerns: Noisy Pixel describes the new material as punishingly difficult and notes higher system expectations from the graphical upgrades, while Movies Games and Tech points to performance issues and uneven visual quality. These are specific critics’ assessments, not evidence that every player will encounter the same problems. PC Gamer’s launch coverage frames the new chapter as a coda to the series’ questions about humanity.

Should you get Reawakened or the original?

If you are choosing between editions, compare what each offers rather than treating Reawakened as a direct sequel. A community post poses the question as “Should I buy the original talos principle 1 or the reawakened version?”; the practical difference is content and presentation, not a replacement storyline.

What matters to you Why Reawakened may fit What to consider
Having the complete package It bundles the original experience, Road to Gehenna and the new In the Beginning chapter. If you only want the original campaign, the added material may not be essential.
Updated presentation and convenience The official listing highlights Unreal Engine 5 visuals, quality-of-life changes and a puzzle editor. Presentation upgrades raise the listed PC hardware requirements; they do not guarantee better performance on every system.
Revisiting a familiar puzzle game The new chapter gives returning players additional story and puzzles. Critic excerpts describe some new content as particularly difficult, so it may not be an easier return for everyone.
Choosing based on reception Critic aggregates are strongly favorable, and Steam’s all-time snapshot is positive. Metacritic’s user score is lower than its critic score, and recent Steam sentiment is below its all-time snapshot.

Current prices vary by storefront and region, so compare the live listings for your platform rather than relying on launch-era pricing or promotions. The available evidence does not establish a universal price advantage for either edition.

Can your PC run The Talos Principle: Reawakened?

Steam’s Windows requirements provide a useful baseline, but meeting the minimum does not promise a particular frame rate, resolution or visual setting. These are the requirements displayed on the Steam listing; the publisher may revise them.

Requirement Minimum Recommended
Operating system 64-bit Windows 10, version 2004 or newer not stated by Steam
Processor Four cores at 2.5 GHz Six or eight cores at 3.0 GHz
Memory 8 GB RAM 16 GB RAM
Graphics 4 GB VRAM; examples: Radeon RX 470, GeForce GTX 970 or Intel Arc A580 8 GB or more VRAM; examples: Radeon RX 6800, GeForce RTX 3070 or Intel Arc B580
DirectX Version 12 Version 12
Storage 50 GB available; SSD recommended 50 GB available; SSD recommended

Steam says Intel integrated GPUs other than Intel Arc are unsupported. If your machine is close to the minimum, check the exact GPU and available VRAM rather than relying on the computer’s general label, and treat the recommended specification as the more cautious target. Critic reports mention performance and image-quality concerns, but no hardware test here establishes how the game will run on a particular PC.

How is the game structured on Steam?

Steam lists it as single-player and includes achievements, Workshop, cloud saves and a level editor. Its user-defined tags include puzzle, first-person, philosophical, adventure, exploration and science fiction; those tags reflect Steam user categorization, not necessarily a formal genre classification.
