The safest cues are to track Gargant’s facing and charge line, watch the last clone’s sword during Soldier S0’s Sector Bisector, and read Valia Pira’s orb paths, expanding cones, and healer stack marker.
Unlock requirements and party setup
The Underkeep unlocks through the level 100 main scenario quest “Descent to the Foundation.” The duty takes place beneath Alexandria’s royal castle, where the party follows Calyx’s transmissions to investigate their source. The Eorzea Database lists these entry details:
- Level 100 Disciples of War or Magic
- Minimum average item level: 705
- Item-level sync: 760
- Time limit: 90 minutes
- Party listing: one to four players; the standard four-player role setup is one tank, one healer, and two DPS
If you prefer not to queue with other players, The Underkeep is supported by Duty Support. Open Duty Support from the menu or a duty access point, select the NPC party, and commence.
Route and trash pulls
The route is linear, with the bosses in this order: Gargant, Soldier S0, then Valia Pira. The Bygone Subrunner uses a donut-shaped area attack; move close to it or otherwise get outside the ring when it resolves. Before Valia Pira, the Bygone Roadripper dashes, turns into a frontal attack, and then uses a large circular AoE. Its frontal attack can be stunned.

#1 Best Overall
- Used Book in Good Condition
For parties comfortable with larger pulls, a dedicated Icy Veins guide recommends pulling groups together in max-level dungeons and using mitigation, healing, and damage cooldowns. Treat that as a general approach rather than a requirement: pull size should suit the tank, healer, gear, and group’s comfort.
Boss 1: Gargant
Gargant’s main challenge is responding to changing directions and ground patterns. The guide-reported attacks below do not establish a fixed cast-by-cast sequence, so follow the telegraphs rather than assuming a rotation.
Rank #2
Attacks to watch
- Chilling Chirp: A magical raidwide. Later casts can overlap with ground AoEs and player-marked AoEs; heal through the hit and resolve the other patterns before settling back into damage.
- Almighty Racket: A frontal directional AoE. Watch which way Gargant faces and move clear of its front.
- Aerial Ambush: Gargant climbs a pole and moves partly hidden in the sand before charging across the arena from its selected pole. Track its repositioning and leave the charge line.
- Earthsong: Two sets of earth orbs explode in AoEs. The first safe area may not remain safe for the second set, so reposition after the initial explosions.
- Trap Jaws: A physical tank buster. The tank should use mitigation.
Boss 2: Soldier S0
Soldier S0 combines a clone-direction check with attacks that target the party. Keep tracking the clone mechanic while also making room for marked and player-following attacks.
Attacks to watch
- Field of Scorn: Raidwide damage; heal after it resolves.
- Thunderous Slash: Tank buster; the tank should mitigate it.
- Sector Bisector: Clones disappear in sequence. The last clone performs a half-room cleave on the side its glowing sword indicates. Identify that final clone and move to the opposite side.
- Ordered Fire: Adds use line attacks. Avoid the lines as they resolve.
- Static Force: Player-following cones. Keep moving to avoid the cones and avoid carrying them through other players.
- Electric Excess: Marked AoEs. Resolve your marker with space from the rest of the party.
Boss 3: Valia Pira
Valia Pira layers moving orbs, turret lines, expanding cones, directional attacks, and a healer stack. Prioritize the indicated paths and safe areas; the mechanic descriptions here do not specify an exact rotation or arena-coordinate diagram.
Attacks to watch
- Entropic Sphere: Magical raidwide damage. Heal after it resolves.
- Coordinate March: Purple spheres travel along indicated paths while pink orbs cross the arena. Where a purple and pink orb collide, a cross-shaped AoE forms. Watch the paths and move out of the resulting cross.
- Turrets: Turrets fire line AoEs after spawning. Leave their firing lines.
- Electric Field: Floor cones and player-targeted cones expand after a delay. Spread into the larger safe spaces as the cones grow.
- Neutralize Front Lines: A frontal directional AoE comes with player marks. Dodge the front and resolve marked AoEs with enough room between players.
- Bloodmarch: A pink orb appears on a tile as the pattern develops. Note its position and respond to the unfolding pattern.
- Deterrent Pulse: A line stack marker targets the healer. Group together in the line to share the hit.
Rewards and patch changes
The Eorzea Database’s displayed reward list gives Mathematics for the first two bosses and Mathematics plus Mnemonics for the final boss entry. It also lists treasure coffers, with a note that coffer counts can vary by duty or trial.
| Boss entry | Displayed currency reward |
|---|---|
| Gargant | 10 Allagan Tomestones of Mathematics |
| Soldier S0 | 20 Allagan Tomestones of Mathematics |
| Valia Pira | 30 Allagan Tomestones of Mathematics and 30 Allagan Tomestones of Mnemonics |
These are the database’s listed duty rewards, not a roulette-bonus total. Patch 7.4 made Heliometry unobtainable and changed duties that had awarded it to Mathematics; older reward guides may therefore show outdated currencies. Reward tuning and item levels can change between patches, so check the current in-game or database display. The Icy Veins guide reports Underkeep equipment at item level 725.
