The Walking Dead games have reportedly generated more than $1 billion in consumer revenue, while the franchise’s TV show drew 1.3 billion Netflix viewing hours in 2023. Both headline figures come from Owl & Co., as reported by GamesBeat—not from independently audited results or a Netflix title-level annual disclosure.
What do the $1 billion and 1.3 billion figures mean?
In a January 27, 2025 report, updated June 18, GamesBeat’s Dean Takahashi attributed both figures to Owl & Co.: more than $1 billion in consumer revenue for The Walking Dead games, and 1.3 billion hours watched for the show on Netflix in 2023. The original Owl & Co. report was not located, so its definitions and calculations cannot be independently checked. GamesBeat’s report is the available source for those franchise-specific totals.
“Consumer revenue” should not be read as publisher net receipts, profit, or money earned by AMC, Skybound, or any one developer. GamesBeat does not provide a common accounting definition or time window for the title-level figures, so they should not be treated as directly comparable audited results.

On the reported dollar amounts, Road to Survival has the largest stated total among these entries. That is a comparison of figures as presented in the GamesBeat article, not proof that the games were measured on identical terms. The listed amounts also should not be added together to reconstruct the headline total: the article does not establish that these are exhaustive categories or explain how each amount relates to the aggregate.
Does Netflix confirm 1.3 billion hours for the show?
No title-specific confirmation appears in Netflix’s reviewed public report. Netflix’s May 23, 2024 engagement report for July through December 2023 says it covers 99% of Netflix viewing and explains its metrics: “views” are calculated by dividing total hours viewed by a title’s runtime. The report is useful for understanding Netflix’s measurement approach, but it does not establish the Walking Dead show’s 1.3 billion-hour annual total.

Netflix separately reported 183 billion hours watched across its entire service during 2023. That platform-wide figure provides scale, not corroboration of the title-specific Owl & Co. estimate. Hours watched and views are also different measures; a viewing-hour total cannot be substituted for a view count.
What else did the report say about the franchise?
GamesBeat describes the franchise as spanning more than 330 episodes across seven live-action series. It also reports Owl & Co.’s estimate that Netflix engagement with the show was worth $83 million per year to Netflix, calculated using an average cost per viewing hour. That is an attributed valuation estimate—not revenue Netflix disclosed as earned from the show.
