The update is set to require 64-bit Windows 11 and DirectX 12. These are announced upcoming requirements, so check your installed game version and storefront listing before treating them as active.
What are The Witcher 3 PC system requirements?
CD PROJEKT RED announced the following minimum requirements to take effect with the next game update. They are the studio’s published specifications, not independent benchmark results.

CD PROJEKT RED says its selected minimum hardware allowed it to target 60 FPS. The updated requirements page specifically says a GTX 1660 can reach 60 FPS or higher at Minimum settings. That is a target for the named card and preset, not a guarantee for every scene, system, resolution, or graphics setting. The studio says its FPS targets are based on QA tests and can fluctuate with gameplay, system configuration, settings, and output resolution. See CD PROJEKT RED’s updated PC requirements.

Compare your PC against each requirement separately, and first confirm which game version you intend to run. A match on one component does not make up for a shortfall in another.

- Check the game version. The new minimums are announced for the next update. The 4.04 version remains an earlier-version option on some platforms; availability and selection steps depend on the storefront.
- Check Windows and DirectX. The announced requirements specify 64-bit Windows 11 and DirectX 12. The studio says it will use DirectX 12 exclusively.
- Compare the exact CPU and GPU models. Match your processor and graphics card to the named models rather than relying on brand, series, or generation alone.
- Check RAM and VRAM independently. The stated minimums are 12 GB of system RAM and 6 GB of graphics memory.
- Confirm SSD capacity. The announced requirement is a 70 GB SSD; CD PROJEKT RED says HDDs will no longer be supported.
- Set expectations for your resolution and preset. Higher output resolution significantly affects FPS. The requirements are not a promise of a particular frame rate at every resolution.
The studio also says it will support only processors and graphics cards that continue to receive relevant updates from their manufacturers. Its announcement describes the SSD and DirectX 12 requirements as part of its support policy. Read the update announcement.
What are the recommended specs for The Witcher 3?
CD PROJEKT RED’s updated requirements page identifies Recommended, Ultra, RT Minimum, RT Recommended, and Path Tracing tiers. Their exact CPU and GPU configurations are presented in a chart, and the published text does not provide readable component rows. No specific recommended CPU, GPU, resolution, or FPS target can be confirmed from the available text, so the announced minimum specs should not be mistaken for the recommended configuration.

The one specific performance statement available is for a GTX 1660 at Minimum settings: the studio says it can achieve 60 FPS or higher, subject to the scene, system, settings, and resolution. That does not establish performance for higher presets or other cards.
Can I play The Witcher 3 on Windows 10?
CD PROJEKT RED does not say the next update will necessarily stop the game from running on Windows 10. It says the game may continue to run, but the studio will no longer develop or test on Windows 10 and cannot guarantee compatibility or performance going forward. Its announcement connects this policy to Microsoft and NVIDIA ending support for the operating system; Microsoft’s Windows 10 end-of-support date was October 14, 2025.

For the announced next-update requirements, Windows 11 is the specified operating system. If you stay on Windows 10, distinguish “may still launch” from “tested and supported by the developer.”

CD PROJEKT RED says reverting to an earlier version is possible depending on platform. It identifies version 1.32 as Classic and says version 4.04 can also be selected after Remastered is released. Storefront instructions and availability vary, so check the version or beta settings for the platform where you own the game before relying on an older branch.
