To complete “Practicum in Advanced Alchemy,” help Gremist at Gedyneith with three favors: find pimpernel, bring him Skellige Spirit from an abandoned distillery, and recruit Fritjof. You can tackle the favors in any order. The pimpernel task includes a choice about whether to kill a succubus; either route described leads to the flower.
Where to start the quest
Find Gremist at Gedyneith on Ard Skellig. He first refuses to take Geralt as an apprentice, then offers to consider it if Geralt completes three favors. The quest can also be triggered by speaking with the herbalist northeast of Oxenfurt and asking about advanced alchemy, or by asking alchemists about a master alchemist. The favors are order-flexible, so you can pursue them in whichever order suits your current location.

Complete Gremist’s three favors
Find pimpernel and decide what to do about the succubus
Travel to Morskogen Forest and use Witcher Senses to track the pimpernel and clues associated with Gremist’s missing apprentice, Ramund. During the search, a druid tracker wants Geralt to kill the succubus. Agreeing leads to a fight; refusing means leaving with the succubus for her cave. The pimpernel is in the cave, so either described route gets you the ingredient.

The available quest accounts describe the immediate choice and routes, but do not establish a larger consequence for choosing one side. They also do not identify a difference in the final ingredient reward between the paths.

Make Skellige Spirit at the abandoned distillery
Go to the old distillery on Hail Hill, clear the area, and locate the distilling instructions. The sequence matters:
- Put the mash into the evaporator.
- Light the evaporator’s fire.
- Operate the condenser levers, using the right lever first and the left lever second.
- Collect the Skellige Spirit from the barrel beside the condenser.
Recruit Fritjof for the ritual
Find Fritjof near Blandare and agree to help him cast a rain spell. Protect him from foglets while he performs the ritual. GameBanshee’s walkthrough identifies the foglets as level 23 and reports 80 XP for this stage; treat that level as guide-specific rather than a guaranteed experience for every player.

Finish the quest and collect the rewards
Once all three favors are done, return to Gremist and Fritjof. They send Geralt away for 24 hours. Wait a day, then speak with Gremist again to complete the quest. Although the arrangement is described as an apprenticeship, GameBanshee says Gremist does not teach Geralt anything during this quest.

Both GameBanshee and The Official Witcher Wiki list five each of Alcohest, Han Fiber, Saltpeter, and Sulfur as the completion reward. Their XP accounting differs: GameBanshee breaks the award into 80 XP for each favor and 80 XP for the final conversation, while The Official Witcher Wiki lists 240 XP for the quest overall. These are different presentations of the quest’s XP, not evidence of an additional payout. Afterward, Gremist is available as a merchant.

Succubus choice: which route should you take?

Choose based on whether you want to fight the succubus or avoid that encounter. The documented routes both lead to the pimpernel, and no material difference in Gremist’s listed completion rewards is established.
