To complete Threads of a Curse in Divinity: Original Sin 2, free the skeletal arm on the Fort Joy coast, follow where it points to a cursed chest on the Hollow Marshes coast, and cast Bless on the stone ring around the chest. Captain Sech Zapor then appears. The quest continues through his log, a buried chest near the Abandoned Camp, and the password-protected Captain’s Hideaway.
How to start Threads of a Curse
Look for the Odd Skeletal Arm protruding from the sand on the Fort Joy coast, around X:361, Y:77. The coordinate is an approximate landmark, not an exact guarantee; community walkthroughs vary slightly. The quest guide notes that a Wits check is involved and that undead characters cannot interact with the arm. If you do not see it, check the surrounding beach rather than assuming the quest is broken.
The arm is a directional clue: once freed, it points toward a distant chest, not a nearby cache. This detail is easy to miss if you search only around the arm. The Divinity Wiki quest guide and a GameFAQs walkthrough both describe the arm leading onward.
Where the arm points and how to open the chest
Follow the direction indicated by the arm to the ornate chest on the Hollow Marshes coast, around X:528–530, Y:18–19. The chest is inside a stone circle protected by a barrier. Reaching the spot may require Teleportation or an alternate route through the terrain.
#1 Best Overall
- ivinity Original Sin,
- Approach the stone circle surrounding the ornate chest.
- Cast Bless on the ring to lift its curse and remove the barrier.
- Open the chest. Captain Sech Zapor emerges, initiating an encounter.
If the arm’s direction seems to lead nowhere, remember that it indicates a long-distance destination. Recheck the bearing and explore the coast around the approximate chest coordinates; the guides do not establish that a missing arm or chest is a universal bug or provide a single guaranteed fix.
Resolve the encounter with Captain Sech Zapor
The documented alternatives depend on whether you have Captain Sech Zapor’s Soul Jar and whether you prefer dialogue or combat.

| Combat | Fight Captain Sech Zapor and his crew | Defeating him also yields the coat. |
The quest guide describes the Soul Jar exchange and the combat alternative; the GameFAQs walkthrough likewise presents the post-Bless scene as a dialogue encounter. The available walkthroughs do not establish a broader build or difficulty comparison between the routes.

Dig up the buried chest
Search near the Abandoned Camp for a buried chest and dig it up to obtain Captain’s Dextrous Heels. Player discussions include reports that this chest did not appear, but those reports do not establish a reproducible bug or a universal solution. If it is missing, recheck the area near the camp and confirm that you have progressed through the earlier quest steps.
Enter Captain’s Hideaway
Find Captain’s Hideaway near Dragon’s Beach and use the password from the log to enter. The hideaway contains Captain’s Jaunty Hat. Together, the chest encounter, buried chest, and hideaway steps provide the coat, heels, and hat described by the community quest guide: Threads of a Curse quest guide.

- No arm visible: Search the Fort Joy coast near the approximate X:361, Y:77 landmark. A Wits check is involved, and undead characters cannot interact with the arm.
- No chest near the arm: Keep following the arm’s direction toward the Hollow Marshes coast; it points to a distant chest.
- Chest barrier still present: Cast Bless on the stone ring around it.
- Buried chest absent: The available player reports are not enough to confirm a general defect or a reliable universal fix. Recheck around the Abandoned Camp and verify that the earlier steps have been completed.
These locations and interaction details come from community walkthroughs rather than official developer documentation. Coordinates are best used as approximate landmarks, and player reports about missing objects should not be treated as proof of a widespread quest bug.
