As of October 8, 2026, that handoff has not yet happened.
What is Throne and Liberty?
Throne and Liberty is a persistent-world, free-to-play online role-playing game. Amazon Game Studios announced a September 17, 2024 launch for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S; Steam lists October 1, 2024 as the PC release date. The different dates reflect the cited launch and storefront listings, not a single universal release date. Amazon Games’ launch announcement and the Steam listing identify the game as free-to-play, with Steam also labeling it as containing in-app purchases.
What can you do in the game?
The official launch materials emphasize guild-focused play in a persistent world and cross-platform play. Steam lists six-player tiered dungeons, open-world bosses, and 3v3 arenas among its activities. These descriptions indicate the range of play on offer, but do not by themselves establish how the current game feels or how active those modes are.
- Guild and world play: The launch framing puts guilds and a shared persistent world near the center of the experience.
- PvE: The Steam page advertises tiered dungeons for six players and open-world bosses.
- PvP: The listed 3v3 arenas provide a smaller-team competitive mode.
Amazon’s launch press release described the game as cross-platform and guild-focused. Moonyoung Choi, NCSOFT’s Head of Division for Throne and Liberty, said at the time: “Together, we’ve worked tirelessly as one team to prepare for launch,” the launch-period statement. That comment is about preparing for release, not an assessment of the game today.

Is Throne and Liberty worth playing now?
The available official descriptions make it a plausible choice if you are looking for a free-to-play MMO with advertised guild activity, group dungeons, bosses, and arena matches across PC and consoles. They are not enough to deliver a hands-on verdict. The sources here do not establish current player sentiment or population, how fair its monetization feels, or how combat and balance perform in the live build. Treat those as questions to investigate in current player discussions and in-game, rather than settled strengths or weaknesses.
Amazon’s October 2025 anniversary retrospective says the first year brought substantial content and updates, including an overhaul of core gameplay elements such as combat mechanics and controls ahead of global release. It also describes stability and optimization as continuing priorities, but supplies no named performance metric in the material cited. The anniversary article is the publisher’s account of its own update work, not independent evidence of present-day performance.

Work was still being described as ongoing in August 2026: the Resistance Report says gameplay improvements based on player feedback continued during the operator transition and mentions a Skill Core preset system in development. It does not give that feature a release date, so do not assume it is already available.

Amazon Game Studios announced that western live operations are scheduled to move to NC, operating through its subsidiary FirstSpark Games, in Q4 2026. The subsequent official update describes publishing responsibilities moving back to the developer. The transition is planned, not completed, as of October 8, 2026. NC’s transition FAQ says existing platform accounts will remain and game data will be transferred. Its service update also describes planned maintenance and temporary suspension of paid in-game products and Auction House services around October 26–November 11, 2026. Those dates and restrictions are scheduled future events as of the date of this review; check the official transition FAQ and service update for final timing and terms before making a time-sensitive account or service decision.

Who should consider playing—and what should they check?
