Amazon Games announced a five-day open beta for July 18–23, 2024. The test was described as free to play and available on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with cross-play between platforms. The announced regions were North and South America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Japan.
In the 2024 interview, Amazon Games globalization design manager Daniel Lafuente said: “During this event we’re announcing our open beta test, which is coming on July 18. It’ll last five days. We’re also announcing our launch date, September 17.” The quote refers to the announcement in 2024, not a current event. GamesBeat’s interview was published June 19, 2024, and the page shows an update on June 18, 2025.
What was Throne and Liberty, and what was its release status?
Throne and Liberty is an MMORPG developed by NCSoft and published in the West by Amazon Games. At the time of the interview, it was already live in Korea on PC. Lafuente described that status in 2024: “The game is live right now in Korea, and it has been since December 2023, but for PC only.” Amazon Games separately announced a Western launch date of September 17, 2024. That was a planned date in the interview, not evidence of the game’s present status.

What did the interview say made the game distinctive?
Large-scale PvP and guild activity
The interview emphasized open-world castle sieges, guild-versus-guild combat and alliances. Amazon Games head of third-party publishing Merv Lee Kwai recounted Korean castle sieges involving 1,700 players. This is a figure reported by an interviewee, not an independently verified player-count measurement.

PvE events and changing environments
The game was also described as having dynamic events, instanced dungeons and environments affected by weather and day/night cycles. Lee Kwai said he had observed some PvE content with upwards of 1,000 players at 60 frames per second in the closed beta. That is his account of an observation, not an independent performance benchmark or a guarantee of results on other hardware or servers.
Weapons and transformation-based travel
The weapons named in the interview were sword and shield, longbow, crossbows, greatsword, staff, daggers, and wand and tome. For travel, players could morph into land, air and sea creatures rather than summon a conventional mount.

What did Amazon Games say about servers and chat translation?
Amazon Games representatives described a multi-sharded server structure with a global backend and server transfers. They did not describe the game as running on one single mega-server.
Lafuente said dynamic translation of typed messages was an active project, but made no promise that it would be ready for launch. The interview also mentions text-to-speech; it does not describe real-time voice translation. The article does not confirm that dynamic chat translation shipped.
