TimeSplitters Rewind arrived as a free PC early-access game in November 2025, more than a decade after the fan project began. It is not a complete remake of all three original games: it is a single fan-made compilation of selected maps, modes, challenges, leagues and story content, with a launch build that represents only part of the team’s wider ambition.
What is TimeSplitters Rewind?
TimeSplitters Rewind is a fan-made project inspired by the original TimeSplitters trilogy. Its team describes it as one game drawing together material from across those three games, rather than three separate executables or a conventional HD collection. The broader vision includes a large selection of maps, modes, leagues, challenges and story material; the early-access release is a subset of that planned scope. The project’s About page describes its intended format and scope.
That distinction matters when calling it a “remake.” Rewind is remake-like in that it revisits the trilogy’s content, but it is not a straightforward, complete remake of all three original games. Nor should “finally out” be read as “finished”: the November 2025 release was explicitly early access. GameSpot’s launch report described it as a free PC early-access release.
When did it come out, and where?
Launch-week coverage placed the early-access release in November 2025. PC Gamer reported it downloadable on November 24, while GameSpot published its report on November 25. Those adjacent dates establish the launch window, but do not by themselves settle an exact launch timestamp. The sources describe a free PC release; they do not establish the game’s current availability, build, or update status as of October 2026.

Why did development take so long?
The project team traces the fan project to 2013, when Crytek gave Pantheonyx permission to proceed and supplied original assets. Rewind’s team says it does not use those assets in the game and rebuilt its assets from scratch. The team’s retrospective timeline describes a project repeatedly slowed by technical and staffing problems, including programming departures, leadership changes, engine switches and periods when the team was very small. Its development timeline presents this history from the project’s perspective.
According to that timeline, the effort gained momentum after a 2020 call for help, then faced further delays amid bugs, layoffs and Free Radical Design’s closure in 2023. In 2024, the team said it was working to complete and ship an early-access build; launch preparation continued into 2025. The “more than a decade” description refers to the fan project’s 2013 start and its November 2025 early-access release—not to a separate TimeSplitters 4 pre-production effort that the timeline dates to 2007.

Is it an official remake?
No. The project’s own About page states: “TimeSplitters Rewind is a fan-made project and is not affiliated with the original creators.” GameSpot reported that the project had the IP holder’s blessing, which supports describing it as an approved fan project. That reported permission does not mean the original developers made Rewind or that it is a commercial release from them.

The release brings together selected content inspired by the trilogy in a single game, but it is only an initial portion of the team’s broader goal. Launch-week outlets did not agree on every content count, and those reports do not establish a definitive roster for the current build. Exact present-day content, compatibility, system requirements and patch status are therefore not stated here; the available launch-era reporting is historical rather than a current build guide.
