To collect the commonly reported 17 Motes of Light in Destiny 2: The Final Shape, find and place all eight Visions of the Traveler in the Pale Heart, then defeat the nine unique Overthrow bosses. Keep a separate checklist for each route: Bungie support has warned that Overthrow Triumph tracking was unreliable, so the Triumph display alone may not confirm what you have completed.
Where Motes of Light come from
The Pale Heart route has two parts: eight Visions of the Traveler and nine unique Overthrow boss defeats. The count of 17 is the commonly reported total supported by a 2024 guide’s Vision count and a 2024 Bungie Help Forum thread identifying the nine bosses; Bungie support’s instruction is to collect and place every Vision and defeat the Overthrow bosses in each area. Find and place the eight Visions of the Traveler
The Visions are associated with these Pale Heart areas:
- Lost City
- Landing
- Refraction
- Blooming
- Seclusion
- Divide
- Impasse
- Transgression
Collect all eight and place them in the Speaker’s office in the Lost City. The 2024 guide identifies the locations and says each Vision awards a Mote. HarryNinetyFour’s guide.

Defeat the nine unique Overthrow bosses
Run Overthrow in the Pale Heart areas and make sure you have defeated each unique boss, rather than repeating the same encounter. Bungie support’s guidance is to defeat the bosses “in each area.” Keep your own notes by area and boss because Bungie’s June 2024 reply said the relevant Overthrow-boss Triumphs were not tracking as intended. If you are missing a Mote
- Check that all eight Visions have been collected and placed in the Speaker’s office.
- Review your Overthrow notes and revisit any area where you are unsure whether its unique boss was defeated.
- If the missing boss defeat appears to be the Taken Servitor, Koftiks, retry that encounter. In a reply dated June 27, 2024, Bungie support suggested returning to Orbit between attempts. Treat this as dated troubleshooting advice, not a verified current fix.
- If the problem is reproducible now, consult Bungie’s current Known Issues information rather than treating an old Triumph display or workaround as proof of the present game state.
Bungie support’s 2024 response directly recommends collecting and placing all Visions and defeating Overthrow bosses in each area. The same response cautions that Triumph tracking was unreliable then, so an incomplete or unchanged Triumph should not by itself settle whether you earned a Mote. Read the support reply.

Pale Heart access context
The Pale Heart is a destination introduced with The Final Shape. Bungie says Pale Heart Ranks unlock after completing the campaign; the available official guidance does not establish campaign completion as a requirement for each individual Mote. Bungie’s Final Shape guide.
Bungie’s Update 9.7.0 support guide says planned live-service content updates ended with that update on June 9, 2026, while leaving open the possibility of future health and stability hotfixes. The guide does not say that Update 9.7.0 changed this Mote route. Bungie Update 9.7.0 support guide.
