Why the last groups can be tricky
Shortened dog-breed names
The blue group uses casual forms rather than full breed names: BULLY for bulldog, CHOW for chow chow, GOLDEN for golden retriever, and LAB for Labrador retriever.
Familiar number references
The purple set points to recognizable numbers: cannabis to 420, the devil to 666, an introductory class to 101, and James Bond to 007. Although 007 is written with a leading zero, it is a three-digit number in the familiar reference.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How Connections works
Connections asks players to sort sixteen words into four groups of four that share a category. The groups are color-coded from yellow through green and blue to purple as difficulty increases. Some terms can suggest a tempting alternative grouping, so look for a set that accounts for all four words rather than relying on a single overlap. You can play on the NYT Games site on desktop or mobile.
