The theme clue is “In neutral.” Think of a soft, neutral color. The puzzle’s spangram clue is “Milky shades.”

- The spangram starts on the left side of the board in the fourth row and ends on the right side in the fourth row.
- Its letters begin OF. The theme words begin CH, LI, VA, CR, IV, and EG.
Full Strands answer for January 6, 2025
The spangram is OFF WHITES (also displayed as OFFWHITES). The six theme words are:
- CHAMPAGNE
- LINEN
- VANILLA
- CREAM
- IVORY
- EGGSHELL
How Strands hints and the spangram work
The New York Times game instructions, reproduced by Parade, explain: “The spangram describes the puzzle’s theme and touches two opposite sides of the board. It may be two words.” The spangram is highlighted yellow when found; theme words are blue. Finding three non-theme words earns an in-game hint that reveals the letters of a theme word. Letters can be traced in any direction without reusing or crossing them, and the completed solution uses every letter once.
