What are the most realistic car-tuning racing games? The best fit depends on what you mean by tuning: race-car setup, performance upgrades, visual customization or configurable vehicle parts. Gran Turismo 7 offers the broadest documented blend of production cars and customization; Assetto Corsa Competizione is the focused pick for GT racing; and Assetto Corsa suits PC players seeking simulation and mod flexibility. This is a curated shortlist, not a measured 1–10 ranking: realism, tuning depth, accessibility and platform support vary by game.
How to read this list
“Realism” is not a single score. A game may model tyres, suspension and vehicle balance closely yet offer few road-car modifications; another may offer extensive upgrades while making driving more accessible or emphasizing open-world play. Simulation, simcade and arcade are broad, imperfect labels, and assists, difficulty settings and car choice can change how demanding a game feels. See the 2026 sim-racing guide for that genre distinction.
Tuning also means different things across these games: adjusting a race setup, upgrading a production car, changing its appearance, configuring vehicle components or using community mods. The entries below balance simulation focus, customization, platform access and likely reader needs rather than claiming a universal winner.
The 10 games
1. Gran Turismo 7 — best all-round console choice
For players who want production cars, collecting, accessible racing and both performance and visual changes, Gran Turismo 7 is the most rounded pick here. Polyphony Digital’s official game page describes tuning performance and modifying bodywork. It lists more than 130 wheel designs and 650 aero parts, as well as roll cages and wide-body conversions for selected models; those options do not apply to every car.
#1 Best Overall
- Immersive Gaming Experience: Perfect for PlayStation 5, PS4 and PC gaming titles, the Driving Force simulates the feeling of driving a real car with precision steering and pressure-sensitive pedals
- Premium Control: The Driving Force feedback racing wheel provides a detailed simulation of driving a real car, with helical gearing delivering smooth, quiet steering and a hand-stitched leather cover
- Customizable Pedals: These pressure-sensitive nonlinear brake pedals provide a responsive, accurate braking feel on a sturdy base - with adjustable pedal faces for finer control
- 900-Degree Rotation: Lock-to-lock rotation of the Driving Force means you can turn the wheel around two and a half times, hand over hand on wide turns - just like a real F1 race car
- Up Your Game: Take your racing simulation to the next level with Driving Force accessories like the Driving Force Shifter or desk and rig mounts
The same page describes physics modelling that accounts for downforce changes caused by ride height and for wind and turbulence. That gives GT7 a substantial simulation-minded foundation alongside its customization, though it is still designed to be approachable. Polyphony Digital’s official copy sums up its scope as: “Drive. Collect. Customize. Discover the pure joy of cars once more in the world of Gran Turismo 7.”
2. Assetto Corsa — best for physics and PC mod flexibility
Assetto Corsa is a strong choice for players who prioritize driving physics and want a flexible PC experience. Its official description highlights licensed cars, tyre flat spots and heat-cycle effects, advanced aerodynamics, hybrid energy-recovery simulation and customization. Community mods expand the range of content and configurations available, but that is distinct from built-in, officially supported tuning. The game’s broad role and simulation classification are also covered in the 2026 sim-racing guide.

- Immersive Gaming Experience: Perfect for Xbox and PC gaming titles, the Driving Force simulates the feeling of driving a real car with precision steering and pressure-sensitive pedals

3. Assetto Corsa Competizione — best for realistic GT racing
Assetto Corsa Competizione focuses on GT competition rather than broad street-car customization. Kunos describes systems that model tyre grip, aerodynamics, engines, suspension, electronics and mechanical damage. Publisher 505 Games calls it “the official GT World Challenge videogame” on its publisher page. Choose it for GT3/GT4 and endurance-style racing and race-car setup, not for collecting and extensively restyling road cars.
4. Forza Motorsport — accessible circuit racing with setup work
Forza Motorsport offers Xbox and PC players a more accessible route into circuit racing, with a large car roster and setup options. It is commonly classed as simcade rather than a pure simulator, making it a compromise for people who want some simulation character without a narrower, more demanding focus. The 2026 genre guide places it in that broad simcade context.

5. BeamNG.drive — for experimenting with vehicle behaviour
BeamNG.drive is worth considering on PC if your interest is how vehicle configuration and component changes affect behaviour. Its official documentation confirms support for PC-compatible steering wheels and explains how to set up controls and force feedback: BeamNG steering-wheel setup. The available evidence here does not establish a specific parts list or justify a quantified realism ranking, so treat it as a configuration-and-vehicle-behaviour option rather than a claim of all-around superiority.
6. Assetto Corsa EVO — promising, but still in Early Access
Assetto Corsa EVO is described in current comparison coverage as a modern simulation with varied cars and serious setup options. However, customization coverage identifies it as an Early Access game with systems that are still changing. Its version and availability may have shifted since that coverage; check the current store listing and update notes before buying or recommending it.

7. Automobilista 2 — for variety across racing categories
Automobilista 2 suits PC players more interested in variety across racing categories, AI, weather and VR than in a specifically documented road-car tuning system. A current comparison guide classifies it as a simulator, but the official material reviewed for this shortlist does not establish a tuning-depth comparison. Choose it for its range of racing experiences, not on an unsupported claim that its tuning is deeper than another game’s.
8. iRacing — best for organized online competition
iRacing is the choice here for scheduled, organized PC competition and competitive race-car setup. Its focus is not collecting and extensively customizing street cars. If you want a structured online racing environment, it makes sense; if your main goal is building and restyling road cars, several other entries are a closer match.

9. CarX Drift Racing Online — for drift-oriented builds
CarX Drift Racing Online is a niche pick for players who want drift-focused tuning and customization. It is best understood as realism-adjacent within a particular discipline, not as a comprehensive circuit-racing simulator. Choose it for drift builds rather than all-purpose motorsport simulation.
10. Forza Horizon 6 — open-world tuning over strict simulation
Forza Horizon 6 belongs on a list that includes car tuning as well as realism because it offers an open-world driving alternative. Current comparison coverage classifies it as arcade relative to dedicated circuit simulators. It is the better fit if you value driving variety and a less simulation-first experience over close competition-focused modelling.

Check wheel compatibility before buying hardware
Wheel support depends on the exact wheelbase, pedals, game and platform. A USB connection alone does not establish that a wheel works with a particular console or game. BeamNG documents PC-compatible steering wheels, while Thrustmaster’s compatibility reference lists specific game and platform combinations. Check the manufacturer’s current list for your exact hardware and setup before purchase.
