There is no official, universally accepted ranking of the 50 hardest ranked osu! beatmaps. This list reproduces Laptops251’s editorial ranking of osu!standard difficulties, not an official leaderboard. It excludes loved, graveyarded, qualified-only, and unranked maps, and treats distinct difficulties as separate entries. Placements are the publisher’s snapshot; star ratings can change after client updates.

How to read this ranking

The ordering below is Laptops251’s, rather than an independently verified catalogue ranking. osu! difficulty names and star ratings usually signal challenge, but a single star value cannot describe every player’s experience. Aim, speed, stamina, reading, rhythm and pattern transitions can challenge different players in different ways. A pass target is also not the same as a full-combo target: surviving with misses and executing every pattern without a miss demand different levels of consistency. The list does not specify a mod combination for each entry, so read it as a ranked-difficulty list, not a comparison of maps played under a uniform mod setup.

Scope matters: this is osu!standard, not osu!taiko, osu!catch or osu!mania. A beatmap difficulty is a game level for a mode and song; the osu! wiki explains difficulty naming and mode-specific ranking criteria at https://osu.ppy.sh/wiki/en/Beatmap/Difficulty and https://osu.ppy.sh/wiki/en/Ranking_criteria.

For comparison, Tech How’s preserved list begins with F-777’s “Fasten Your Seatbelts,” UNDEAD CORPORATION’s “Flowering Night Fever,” BLANKFIELD’s “Voyage,” IOSYS’s “Utage wa Eien ni ~SHD~,” and xi’s “Last Resort.” The substantially different entries and order show why lists should be attributed rather than merged into a purported canonical ranking: https://techhow.org/top-50-hardest-osu-ranked-maps/.

Why players may disagree about what is hardest

  • Aim and spacing: jump size, angles, cursor movement and slider control matter to players differently than sustained tapping.
  • Speed and tapping: bursts, streams, finger control and long sections of fast tapping test distinct skills.
  • Stamina and length: demanding patterns sustained over time can be harder to keep consistent than a short peak challenge.
  • Tech and rhythm: slider behavior, awkward spacing, rhythm changes and transitions may be difficult even when raw speed is not the main obstacle.
  • Reading: approach rate, object density, visual clutter and the time available to identify a pattern all affect playability.
  • Pass versus full combo: a player may survive a map but still find an uninterrupted execution much harder.
  • Mods: No Mod, Hard Rock, Double Time, Hidden and other combinations change the challenge. The list does not provide a consistent mod condition for each placement.

These differences help explain why two skilled players can judge a map differently: an aim specialist may find a marathon stream difficult, while a speed-focused player may struggle with wide jumps or awkward reading. Star rating is useful context, not a complete account of perceived difficulty.

Why the ranking needs an “as of” date

Star-rating and performance-point calculations can change. The osu! Performance Points Committee said on July 3, 2026, that it updates star-rating and PP algorithms as the game evolves; its notice reports that reprocessing score performance values was completed on July 11, 2026, covering what it described as “all remaining 3 billion scores.” That figure describes the committee’s stated processing effort, not the number of beatmaps or players. See the committee’s July 3, 2026 update notice.

The published list does not establish a reproducible official query, current pass rates, full-combo rarity, or an independently verified current top 50. For an exact current catalogue ranking, each difficulty’s ranked status and current values would need to be checked against the live game data. The official documentation explains the rules and systems, but does not make this editorial ordering official.
