What is the Netherrealm prison mode?
The official season description puts players in charge as the Warden of Tartarus. The job is to hunt escaped prisoners, return them to the prison and use its systems to get ready for an eventual riot. The update frames the player’s role as one of authority over the inmates: “In a prison full of the most heinous criminals, you hold supreme power.”

1. Track down fugitives
Players search for escaped prisoners and collect their nameplates as they recapture them. The nameplates help build the roster of inmates for the prison phase.
2. Manage the prison
The preview describes a circular prison with 16 cells. Players house inmates and arrange fights between prisoners or against beasts. This management stage lasts 20 turns, according to Pocket Gamer.

The basic premise—recapturing fugitives and preparing for a riot—is also present in the official update. For the specific cell count, turn limit, levels and difficulties, the preview is the source; those details should not be treated as confirmed live-client mechanics based on the official announcement alone.

What else is new in SS14?
Youga’s Spacetime Witness Hero Trait
The official update lists Spacetime Witness as a new Hero Trait for Youga. Pocket Gamer characterizes it as spell-focused, giving Youga another direction for character builds.
Follower progression
SS14 adds Followers from four species: Lion Queen, Lone Wolf, Mammoth and Witch Rat. The official update says higher-quality Followers can have more skill slots and better Active Skills. Pocket Gamer describes Follower abilities as including active and support skills for effects such as buffs, protection and debuffs.
What Tartarus appears to emphasize
The season reveal combines three different kinds of progression: managing a prison and its inmates, shaping Youga through a new Hero Trait, and developing Followers through their skills. The prison mode is the headline addition, but the official announcement also makes clear that SS14’s changes extend beyond its riot-preparation loop.
