To beat the Total War: WARHAMMER III Prologue, select Prologue from the menu and follow the mission prompts in The Lost God. You play Prince Yuri Barkov, leading an expedition north to find Ursun. The campaign is a guided introduction to the game, so complete the highlighted action and check the mission panel for the next objective before ending a turn.
How to start The Lost God
The Lost God is the campaign menu’s Prologue: a narrative prelude to the Realm of Chaos campaign and an introduction to core mechanics. Warhammer Community recommended it as the first stop for both new players and series veterans, and the official game manual describes its tutorial role. Leave the guided instruction enabled on a first run if you want the game to introduce systems as they become relevant; it is an introduction, not a complete guide to every advanced mechanic.
- Choose Prologue from the main menu. The campaign title is The Lost God.
- Follow the highlighted action and read each new mission prompt. Let the prompt determine when to move, fight, recruit, or develop a settlement.
- Before ending a turn, check the mission panel for an unresolved required objective. Optional actions are not established as necessary unless the game marks them that way.
Warhammer Community’s launch guidance calls The Lost God the recommended first stop for newcomers and veterans alike (launch article).
What is the order of missions in The Lost God?
The broad route heads north through Kislevite settlements, then into the Chaos Wastes and toward the Howling Citadel. The exact action text can vary with the current mission step, so treat these as story landmarks and use the in-game mission panel for the live objective.

- From the icy peaks of Naggaroth to the arid reaches of the Southlands, each race struggles for dominion. As their conquests grow, the land turns crimson, and rivers run red with the blood of the slain!
- Blood for The Blood God brings a number of gory, mature-rated effects to Total War: WARHAMMER II
- Begin the northern expedition. Yuri Barkov sets out to find Ursun. His brother Gerik helps guide the early maneuvers; keep the army together while the tutorial teaches movement and battles.
- Secure the northern settlements. The route reference names Beacon and Dervingrad during a rescue or reclamation phase. Follow the mission marker, and develop settlements or recruit only as the prompts introduce those systems.
- Enter the Lucent Maze. Continue north into the Chaos Wastes as directed by the mission chain. The Lucent Maze is a key progression point.
- Resolve the Brazen Altar battle. The community route reference places this battle in the main chain. Check the active objective and battlefield instructions rather than assuming a particular army composition or tactic is mandatory.
- Win Before the Howling Citadel. The final quest battle is titled Before the Howling Citadel. Its listed objective is to defeat the enemy force; victory completes the Prologue.
In short: follow Yuri and Gerik north, complete the settlement objectives, proceed through the Lucent Maze, fight at the Brazen Altar, and finish at the Howling Citadel. The community-maintained route reference is marked as a work in progress, so use the current in-game objective text as the authority for exact steps.
How to approach the final battle
The final battle reference identifies Slavin Kurnz’s forces and Knute Dahl’s reinforcements, with defeating the enemy as the objective. It does not establish a tested, patch-specific battle script. Use the displayed objective and unit information to make decisions during the fight.

- Empire Total War Complete Edition
- Check each unit’s role and the battle objective before committing your army.
- As general gameplay guidance, keep fragile ranged units protected rather than leaving them exposed to enemy attacks.
- Follow any new battle prompt; do not assume reinforcements or a particular enemy behavior will occur at a specific turn unless the game indicates it.
The community reference for Before the Howling Citadel names the opposing forces and objective. It is useful for orientation, not evidence of a universally reliable tactical solution.
What happens after the Prologue?
The official launch description presents the Prologue’s story as connected to Realm of Chaos. The route leads Yuri from the northern settlements into the Chaos Wastes and toward the Howling Citadel. If you want to avoid story spoilers, stop there: the key practical goal throughout is to follow the mission chain in pursuit of Ursun.
