“The program can’t start because tpprnuitha.dll is missing from your computer.” The tpprnuitha.dll error usually points to a damaged or incomplete ThinPrint printer-driver installation, not a missing Windows runtime.
Which fix applies to you
Start with the description that matches your situation:
- The error appeared after removing, updating, or reconnecting a printer: repair or reinstall the ThinPrint Output Gateway, ThinPrint Engine, or ThinPrint Client package that supplied the printer driver.
- The printer is managed by a company print server or remote-desktop host: the driver must be repaired on the server and redeployed to the client.
- Windows Security recently detected or quarantined a file: check Protection history before reinstalling anything.
- The message says “the specified module could not be found”:
tpprnuitha.dllmay be present while one of its dependencies is missing. - The message says the file is not designed to run on Windows: suspect a damaged binary or a 32-bit/64-bit mismatch.
- The error names
MSVCP*.dll,VCRUNTIME*.dll, orapi-ms-win-crt*.dllinstead: investigate Visual C++ separately.tpprnuitha.dllis not identified as a Visual C++ runtime file. - You no longer use ThinPrint: remove the associated printer and ThinPrint component instead of replacing the DLL manually.
What tpprnuitha.dll belongs to
tpprnuitha.dll is associated with ThinPrint’s TPOG, or ThinPrint Output Gateway, printer-driver software. It appears to be a printer user-interface or language-resource DLL used alongside other ThinPrint files such as tpprn.dll and tpprnui.dll.
ThinPrint Output Gateway is used in workstation, print-server, and remote-desktop environments. That means the file may be loaded by the print spooler, a printer-properties window, a remote-session component, or a print-server deployment rather than by a normal desktop application.

It is not established as a base Windows component, Windows-protected system file, DirectX file, .NET file, or Visual C++ Redistributable file.
A historical Microsoft Q&A inventory records an x64 tpprnuitha.dll build numbered 7.15.297.33, dated December 8, 2013, with a size of 80,184 bytes. That record identifies one package version, not a universal version for every ThinPrint installation. Do not use those details to decide whether a replacement downloaded elsewhere is safe.
The exact installation folder can vary by Windows version, driver package, and deployment method. Do not assume that System32 is the correct location.
Fix 1: Repair or reinstall the ThinPrint package
This is the most likely solution because the DLL belongs with the complete ThinPrint printer-driver package.
If ThinPrint appears in Installed apps
- Close the program showing the error.
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps, then Installed apps.
- Search for ThinPrint, ThinPrint Client, ThinPrint Engine, or Output Gateway.
- Select the three-dot menu beside the matching entry.
- Choose Advanced options, if available.
- Select Repair.
- Restart Windows.
- Test the affected printer or open its printer properties.
If there is no Repair option, use the organization’s original ThinPrint installer or the official ThinPrint download channel. Current downloads may not contain the historical driver used by an older print server, terminal-server image, or Windows installation. In that case, ask the administrator who manages the print system for the matching package.
If repair does not restore the file
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Remove the ThinPrint component associated with the affected printer.
- Restart Windows.
- Download or obtain the correct ThinPrint installer from your organization or ThinPrint’s official Download Center.
- Run the installer as an administrator.
- Reconnect or recreate the printer.
- Restart the Print Spooler:
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
services.mscand press Enter. - Find Print Spooler.
- Right-click it and select Restart.
- Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select the printer and choose Print a test page.
Success means the printer properties open without the DLL message and a test page reaches the printer. Do not copy only tpprnuitha.dll; the driver may also require companion files, language resources, registry entries, and dependencies.
For a managed printer, reinstalling the client alone may not be enough. The print server may still be offering a damaged or incompatible driver. The administrator should update the ThinPrint package on the server, remove stale driver versions where appropriate, and redeploy the printer to clients.

Update the driver through Windows
Windows may offer a compatible printer-driver update:

- Select Advanced options > Optional updates.
- Expand Driver updates, if present.
- Install a printer-related update that matches the affected hardware or managed print environment.
- Restart Windows and test the printer.
If Windows Update does not list the ThinPrint driver, that does not mean the driver is absent. ThinPrint packages are often deployed by an installer, print server, or remote-desktop image.
When manually comparing several driver packages, the architecture, language resources, and ThinPrint release must match the spooler and deployment environment. The known public record is x64; it does not verify a matching x86 build.

Fix 2: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software can remove or quarantine a legitimate driver file after an update or change in detection rules.

- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Look for an event naming
tpprnuitha.dll, ThinPrint, or the affected printer-driver package. - Expand the event and review its path, detection name, and action.
- If the package came from a trusted organizational or official ThinPrint installer, reinstall that complete package first.
- Restore or allow the file only after confirming its origin and digital signature.
Do not restore a file merely because its name matches the error. Microsoft warns that allowing an actual threat can expose the device. If the file was found in a temporary download folder or an unexpected application directory, leave it quarantined and run a full scan.
After reinstalling, check the file’s Properties > Digital Signatures tab when a signature is present. Also confirm that the path belongs to the printer-driver package rather than a random application folder.
Fix 3: Check the printer driver and architecture
A 64-bit Windows installation can still encounter an incompatible driver when a print server, legacy application, or remote-desktop host supplies the wrong package.

- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
printmanagement.mscand press Enter. - Open Print Servers > your computer > Drivers.
- Locate the ThinPrint or Output Gateway driver.
- Review its name, environment, and version.
- Do not delete it if the printer is managed by an organization unless the administrator has a replacement package ready.
If Print Management is unavailable, use Device Manager:
- Right-click the Start button.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Print queues and Printers.
- Right-click the affected printer.
- Choose Uninstall device only if you are prepared to reinstall the printer.
- Reboot if Windows requests it.
- Install the correct ThinPrint package and reconnect the printer.
On a print server, repair the server-side driver first. Then remove and reconnect the client printer so it receives the repaired package. A 32-bit application does not make an x64 printer-driver DLL interchangeable with an x86 one. Install the architecture required by the spooler and deployment path rather than copying a file between driver folders.
If the printer driver is old and the current ThinPrint installer does not support it, obtain the matching installer from the organization’s administrator or ThinPrint support. Do not substitute a similarly named package.
Fix 4: Restart the spooler and clear a failed print job
A damaged spooler state can keep loading an incomplete driver even after the package has been repaired.
- Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select the affected printer.
- Open the print queue.
- Cancel every stuck document.
- Press Windows key + R, type
services.msc, and press Enter. - Right-click Print Spooler and choose Restart.
- Test the printer again.
If the queue will not clear:
- In Services, right-click Print Spooler and select Stop.
- Open File Explorer and go to:
C:WindowsSystem32spoolPRINTERS - Delete only the queued files inside that folder.
- Return to Services.
- Right-click Print Spooler and select Start.
This removes pending print jobs. It does not repair a missing ThinPrint package, so reinstall the driver if the DLL message returns.

Use Windows repair tools when other Windows features are also failing, system files were damaged, or a failed migration affected several components. They do not replace a third-party ThinPrint driver.
- Open Start and type Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test the printer again.
Run DISM before SFC. If both commands report that Windows is healthy but tpprnuitha.dll is still missing, return to the ThinPrint package repair rather than repeating the commands.

Windows Features can confirm whether supporting print services are disabled, but enabling a Windows print feature will not normally recreate tpprnuitha.dll.

- Type

- Review the available print features.
- Enable only a feature required by your environment, such as Internet Printing Client, if your administrator or printer setup specifically requires it.
- Select OK and restart if prompted.
Do not enable unrelated features as a substitute for installing ThinPrint. If the error continues, repair the third-party printer-driver package.
Why regsvr32 usually does not apply
regsvr32 is not a universal DLL repair command. It is intended for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer.
A printer UI or language-resource DLL is not automatically self-registering. Running commands such as:
regsvr32 tpprnuitha.dll
may produce an entry-point error, change nothing, or register the wrong architecture. Use regsvr32 only when the ThinPrint installer or administrator explicitly documents that this particular component must be registered, with the correct full path and architecture.
Do not download the DLL by itself
Random DLL download sites can provide:
- The wrong ThinPrint release
- The wrong 32-bit or 64-bit architecture
- A mismatched language resource
- A file with missing dependencies
- A modified or malicious binary
Even a clean replacement may not work because the printer driver also needs companion files, installation records, and matching spooler configuration. Use the original organizational installer, ThinPrint’s official download or support channel, or a properly maintained print-server package.
If ThinPrint is no longer needed
If the error appears after you stopped using ThinPrint, remove the associated printer and package cleanly:

- Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select the old printer.
- Choose Remove.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Uninstall the unused ThinPrint component.
- Restart the computer.
Do not manually delete tpprnuitha.dll from a driver directory. Removing the owning package prevents the spooler from continuing to request files that are no longer needed.
FAQ
Is tpprnuitha.dll part of Windows?
No reliable evidence identifies it as a base Windows file. It is associated with ThinPrint Output Gateway printer-driver software.
Is tpprnuitha.dll a Visual C++ file?
Usually no. Reinstall Visual C++ only when the error names a Visual C++ runtime such as MSVCP*.dll, VCRUNTIME*.dll, or api-ms-win-crt*.dll.
Where should tpprnuitha.dll be located?
Its exact path varies by driver package and Windows installation. It is normally stored with printer-driver files, not treated as an ordinary application DLL. Do not copy it into System32 without a documented reason.
Why does “the specified module could not be found” appear when the file exists?
The Windows loader may be reporting a missing dependency of tpprnuitha.dll, a damaged package, or an architecture mismatch. Reinstall the complete driver package and check the spooler environment.
Can I fix it with System Restore?
Use System Restore only if the printer worked previously and the failure clearly followed a driver or software change. Press Windows key + R, run rstrui.exe, and choose a restore point from before the change.

Record the exact error text and path, the ThinPrint package version, driver architecture, printer-server version, Windows Security history, and relevant Event Viewer > Applications and Services Logs > Microsoft > Windows > PrintService entries. Then repair the package on the correct server or client rather than replacing the DLL alone.
