Trackmania (2020) is a strong pick if you enjoy precise, repeatable time attack and making or sharing your own tracks. You can start for free with Starter access, which includes a curated slice of the game, and decide from there whether the paid Club tier is worth it. Club is an annual subscription that adds the full official campaign archive, more competitive modes and wider creation and hosting tools.
This assessment draws on Ubisoft’s current access information, the Steam store listing (Nadeo is the developer, Ubisoft the publisher) and PC Gamer’s racing games guide. It is not based on hands-on play sessions run for this article, and access prices should be checked on your storefront before you buy.

What kind of game Trackmania is
Trackmania is a precision-focused arcade racer rather than a road-racing simulation. Its core loop is learning a course, refining your line and then chasing better times. The Steam description highlights control of speed and drifting across varied surfaces, along with track elements such as jumps, loops, wall rides and sharp turns. PC Gamer’s guide points to its daily featured tracks, oddball challenges and seasonal content, which reinforce the same idea: short sessions that reward repetition.
Most of the appeal sits in two places. The first is the time-attack loop itself, where small improvements in a single corner are the point. The second is the large catalogue of player-made tracks, which means there is almost always another course to attempt once you have finished the official ones.

- Keep the advanced editor, the 365 Track of the Day, and the 100 official tracks after your access expires.
Starter: what the free tier gives you
Ubisoft’s current access page describes Starter as free. It includes:
- Five environments to race in.
- A selection of seasonal campaign tracks, described on the page as the easiest in each season.
- Weekly player-made tracks through Weekly Shorts.
- Weekly multiplayer activities and an hourly rotating Arcade Channel.
- Ranked 2v2, cross-play and local multiplayer.
- A track editor with more than 3,000 blocks and items.
Starter is therefore more than a short demo, but it is a curated selection rather than the whole game. If you want to see the full official campaign, Starter will not show you all of it.

Club Access: what the paid tier adds
Club is sold as one year of access. According to the same access page, it adds:
- All full official campaigns.
- More than 1,500 tracks, as stated on the Club page.
- Past Weekly Shorts.
- A daily curated Track of the Day, plus Cup of the Day and Cup of the Week competitions.
- Club-created activities, expanded customisation and event participation.
- Expanded hosting and creation functions.
Some of these functions are PC-only, including replay and skin tools and certain server and hosting features. The catalogue figure may change, so treat it as a snapshot of the current page.

What happens to your tracks when Club expires
Ubisoft’s documentation states that tracks accumulated during a paid access period remain available after the subscription ends. The access page makes a similar statement about full official campaigns, but it also tells readers to check the current access details for what access means after expiry. Do not assume that ongoing Club features, such as Track of the Day, Cups or expanded hosting, continue once the year has run out.
In practical terms, the safe reading is this: content you have gained access to during a paid period is retained, while the services that depend on an active subscription stop.

Launch-era pricing, for context only
Ubisoft’s May 27, 2020 access announcement described three tiers: Starter, Standard and Club. Launch prices were $9.99 for a year of Standard and $29.99 for a year of Club, or $59.99 for three years of Club. These are historical figures and are not current prices. The current structure uses two levels, and the access page consulted for this article did not state a price.
Florent Castelnerac, Ubisoft Nadeo Managing Director, described the free tier in that announcement: “The Starter Access, which is free, is a great foot in the door for new players.”

Controller support
Steam marks the game as supporting controllers. Ubisoft’s older launch-era FAQ also said the simplified editor offered both keyboard and gamepad options. A controller is therefore a reasonable option rather than a requirement. No specific controller model was tested for this article, so compatibility with any particular device is not established here.
What players say on Steam
As of 2026-10-08, the Steam listing showed 80% positive from 309 reviews in the previous 30 days, and 79% positive from 14,640 English reviews. These are user-review aggregates that change over time, so they indicate sentiment on that date rather than a critic score.
Quick Recap
Who should play it
- Good fit: players who like learning a single corner until it feels effortless, enjoy time-attack leaderboards, or want to build and share their own courses.
- Good fit: players who want to test the game before committing money, since Starter is free and includes ranked 2v2 and the editor.
- Less likely to suit: players who want a conventional racing career, realistic car handling or a large, uninterrupted single-player story.
- Consider waiting: players who plan to buy Club but want to confirm current pricing and renewal terms first, since the access details can change.
