Where to find troll lairs
Trolls drop Troll Bogeys when defeated. Look for cave symbols on the map to identify troll lairs, then travel to one and fight the troll inside.

- Southern Manor Cape: A lair at the southern end of Manor Cape is one specifically reported location. Push Square’s Professor Onai’s Assignment walkthrough identifies it.
- Northwest of Feldcroft: A lair northwest of Feldcroft, southwest of Hogwarts, is another reported option. PC Gamer’s Troll Bogeys guide points to this area.
- West of Rookwood Castle: A lair west of the Rookwood Castle Floo Flame is also reported. GameWatcher’s location guide describes this location and notes that lairs are marked with a cave symbol.
These are example locations rather than an exhaustive list. Defeat the troll and collect the item it drops.
Buy Troll Bogeys at J. Pippins Potions
For a route that avoids a troll fight, visit J. Pippins Potions in Hogsmeade, just north of the West Hogsmeade Floo Flame. PC Gamer reports a price of 100 Galleons per Troll Bogey and a limit of five in stock at a time. Shop stock can be depleted, so check the shop before relying on this option; if none are available, find a troll lair instead.

Which way should you get one?

Getting the Troll Bogey for Professor Onai’s Assignment
Professor Onai’s Assignment becomes available after Percival Rackham’s Trial. It requires one Troll Bogey and a separate combat task: cast Depulso on an enemy while that enemy is levitated. After completing those requirements, attend Divination class during the day and return to Professor Onai. Completing the assignment teaches Descendo.
Because the assignment needs only one Troll Bogey, either the shop purchase or a troll drop can satisfy that item requirement; the fight route also puts you at a troll encounter.

GameWatcher reports that Troll Bogeys are an ingredient for crafting an Invisibility Potion.
