TRON: Catalyst is an action game by Bithell Games, published by Big Fan Games and Devolver Digital. Valve lists its PC release as 17 June 2025, and it is also available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Switch. Valve’s Steam listing identifies the PC requirements and the game’s DirectX 12 support.

Big Fan Games announced Steam Deck Verified status on 23 June 2025, as reported in search results; the original announcement was not available for direct review. Verified status means Valve judged the game compatible with the Deck, not that every crash has the same cause or that crashes cannot occur. No game-specific Steam bug thread, ProtonDB report or developer statement documenting a crash or confirmed fix was found in the sources available for this article.
Try these seven fixes in order
1. Restart the Steam Deck
Close the game, then use a full restart rather than only returning to the library: press the Steam button, open Power, and choose Restart. After the Deck boots, launch TRON: Catalyst again. This is general troubleshooting, not a documented title-specific cure.

2. Update SteamOS and the game
Updating SteamOS is one of the general steps suggested by The CPU Guide’s TRON: Catalyst crash guide. In Game Mode, open Settings > System and check for a SteamOS update. Then open Downloads and install any pending game update before trying again.
3. Check storage and the microSD card
The same guide suggests reinserting or removing a microSD card when the game is installed on it. Shut down the Deck before removing or reinserting the card. If the crash happens while the game is on microSD, a useful diagnostic is to install it on internal storage and test again; this is a general troubleshooting step, not evidence that a particular card causes or fixes this game’s crashes.

Valve’s Steam listing gives TRON: Catalyst a storage requirement of 7 GB. Check that the drive holding the game has enough free space for the installation and updates.
4. Verify the game files, then consider the shader cache
To check for damaged or missing game files, open Library > TRON: Catalyst > Properties > Installed Files > Verify integrity of game files. Wait for Steam to finish, then relaunch the game.

Clearing shader cache is another general Proton troubleshooting step, but it is not documented as a fix for TRON: Catalyst in the available sources. If you try it, use Steam’s available storage-management controls and be prepared for the game to rebuild shaders on a later launch.
5. Reconnect to the network
The CPU Guide suggests re-initializing DNS settings as a possible general fix. Start with reversible checks: toggle Wi-Fi off and on, forget and rejoin the network, or test on a different network. These steps are worth trying if the crash occurs during startup or an online connection, but there is no title-specific evidence here that DNS causes TRON: Catalyst crashes.

- 512 GB NVMe SSD: Fast storage for quicker game load times and space for larger game libraries.
- OLED Display: 1200x800 resolution with deep contrasts and vibrant colors for a captivating visual experience.

6. Test a different Proton version
The CPU Guide also recommends changing Proton. Since the game is Verified, Steam’s default compatibility setting is the baseline; change it only as a diagnostic and revert if it makes things worse.

- Valve is entering the gaming console marketplace with the new Steam Deck, a console geared towards PC gamers. The Steam Deck can be docked to a monitor, and used as a PC, or docked to a TV.
- Players can play a huge variety of games at any time with the comfort of a console and the freedom of a PC. Not anti-glare screen.
- Like the name suggests, the Steam Deck will include upgraded 1TB storage, and will include a carrying case. A micro SD slot will also enable expanded storage.
- Valve partnered with AMD to create a specialized APU optimized for handheld gaming, and Valve says the chip will deliver performance to run AAA gaming titles.
- The Steam Deck is outfitted with a 7-inch touchscreen, and two trackpads under the control sticks that allow gamers to operate games never designed outside of mouse and keyboard capabilities.
7. Capture a Proton log and report the crash
If the crash continues, collect a log that may help support staff diagnose it. In the game’s Steam properties, add this launch option: PROTON_LOG=1 %command%. This is a general Proton logging method and has not been verified specifically for this title here. After reproducing the crash, look for the generated log in the Deck’s home directory, then share relevant details with the game’s Steam forum or Bithell Games/Big Fan Games support.
What not to change first
TRON: Catalyst has no graphics options beyond Max Framerate, so there is no in-game resolution or quality setting to lower as a crash workaround. SteamDeckHQ’s pre-release preview reported that 60 FPS was possible, but that is not a crash test and does not establish performance for every Deck or the final build.
Avoid copying Proton launch options suggested for unrelated games. In particular, PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% forces an OpenGL-based rendering path; the Steam listing specifies DirectX 12, so this is not a sensible first fix for this game. Also make sure a guide or compatibility report actually refers to TRON: Catalyst: search results can surface similarly named games such as Mirror’s Edge Catalyst or TRON 2.0.
