Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →If PlayStation Store will not open, stays on a loading spinner, or shows an error, do not reset your console first. The cause may be a PlayStation Network outage, a local connection problem, outdated system software, a license issue, insufficient storage, or a payment/account error.
Work through these fixes in order, starting with the least destructive: check PlayStation Service Status, restart your equipment, test the console connection, update system software, restore licenses, and only then use Safe Mode troubleshooting.

Start with this quick diagnosis
- Store fails everywhere: Check Sony’s service-status page for PlayStation Store, Account Management, and Gaming and Social. If a service is unavailable, wait for Sony to restore it.
- Only your console fails: Restart the console, restart your router, test the connection, and install system updates.
- Only one game or add-on is missing or locked: Check the purchasing account, subscription status, sharing settings, and licenses.
- Browsing works but checkout fails: Treat it as a payment, billing, region, or account problem.
- Downloads stall after the Store opens: Check storage, connection quality, service status, and the individual download.
A status page can lag behind a new or geographically limited incident. If the Store, website, and app fail for multiple people or devices at once, an outage remains possible even when the page says services are operational.
1. Fully restart the console and network
Shut down the PS5 or PS4 completely rather than leaving it in Rest Mode. Start it again and reopen PlayStation Store.

If that does not help, turn off the modem and router, wait at least five minutes, then power them back on. Wait until your internet connection is fully restored before trying the Store again. Sony recommends this interval for relevant connection errors.
On PS5, run Settings > Network > Connection Status > Test Internet Connection. On PS4, use Settings > Network > Test Internet Connection. This confirms whether the console can connect to the internet and sign in to PlayStation Network, but it does not prove that the Store service itself is working.
If possible, connect the console directly to the router with an Ethernet cable. If Ethernet works while Wi-Fi does not, investigate wireless signal strength, interference, or router configuration. Ethernet is a useful diagnostic, not a guaranteed Store repair.
See Sony’s connection-error guidance and network-error guidance for code-specific steps.
2. Update PS5 or PS4 system software
Outdated console software can interfere with Store, account, and download functions.

PS5: Go to Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings, then check for an update.
PS4: Go to Settings > System Software Update.
If a normal update fails, Sony provides a Safe Mode update procedure. A manual USB update requires a PC or Mac, a USB drive formatted as FAT32 or exFAT, and the correct folder and filename:

3. Restore licenses for missing or locked content
Restore licenses when a purchased game or add-on is missing, a padlock appears, PlayStation Plus content is not recognized, or the console recently failed to authenticate with your account.
PS5: Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteRestoring licenses does not delete games or saved data. It refreshes the console’s entitlement information. It cannot fix a PlayStation Network outage, make an unowned game available, restore an expired subscription, or correct the wrong account.
See Sony’s restore-license guide.
4. Check the account when one purchase is affected
If the Store itself works but a purchase is absent or locked:
- Confirm that you are signed into the account that bought the item.
- Check that account’s transaction history.
- Confirm that a PlayStation Plus subscription is still active if access came through Plus. Catalog access can depend on subscription status and current availability.
- On PS5, check Console Sharing and Offline Play. On PS4, check the owner’s primary-console activation.
- Restore licenses again after correcting the account or sharing settings.
Sony’s guides for missing and locked content and PS4 primary-console activation cover these ownership checks.
5. Separate Store loading from download and storage problems
If product pages load but a download will not start or remains stuck, check Settings > Storage on either console. Compare available space with the game’s requirement, remembering that updates can need additional temporary space.

For a stalled download, check PlayStation status and the connection first. Then pause and resume it. If necessary, cancel and delete the download and start it again from your Library. Repeatedly stuck downloads may justify Safe Mode database repair.
Do not assume insufficient storage is the cause of a blank Store screen; storage is more likely when browsing works and the failure begins at purchase or download.
6. If checkout is the only failing feature
When browsing and search work but payment does not, check the payment method, billing address, account country or region, and any displayed error code. Try another supported payment or wallet-funding method if available, and avoid repeatedly submitting the same failed transaction.
Payment failures can involve billing details, bank authorization, region restrictions, account restrictions, or a Sony service problem. Deleting and re-adding a card is not the default fix for a blank Store screen. Use Sony’s payment-method guidance and error-code hub.

These options are different from a factory reset, but do not select Reset PS5, Reset PS5 (Reinstall System Software), or Initialize PS4 for an ordinary Store-loading problem. Those options can delete user data. Restore Default Settings is also different from a reset: Sony says it changes settings without erasing user or game data, but it is still unnecessary unless a particular settings problem warrants it.
See Sony’s PS5 and Safe Mode support page and its restore-default-settings explanation.

8. Use the website or PlayStation App as a workaround
If only the console Store interface is failing, try the PlayStation Store website in a private browser window, another browser, or another device. The PlayStation App can also be used to browse purchases and initiate remote downloads when the account and console are correctly linked and configured.
This is a workaround, not proof that the console Store has been repaired. If the website, app, and console all fail, focus on service status, account, and network causes.
For remote downloads, follow Sony’s web Store and PlayStation App instructions.
When to contact PlayStation Support
Contact PlayStation Support if the Store remains unavailable after service status returns to normal and the steps above fail, or if you have hardware symptoms, failed system updates, persistent connection errors, account compromise, or unauthorized charges.
