If Windows reports that txflog.dll is missing, was not found, or could not be loaded, repair the Windows image first, then repair the one application that is failing.
The file is associated with COM Services and transactional file-system logging. Its older internal description is “Simple Kernel-mode File-based Log.” That description does not make it a kernel driver: txflog.dll is a DLL and COM component, not a .sys driver.

The fastest safe fix: DISM, then SFC
For most Windows 11 and Windows 10 systems, the correct first repair is:
- Install pending Windows updates.
- Run DISM to repair the Windows component store.
- Run SFC to replace damaged protected system files.
- Restart Windows and test the affected program.
DISM repairs the source Windows image that system-file repair relies on. SFC then checks protected files and restores versions from that repaired image.
1. Install Windows updates first
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- On Windows 10, select Update & Security, then Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install all available updates.
- Restart if Windows requests it.
- Check for updates again after restarting.
If an update is waiting for a restart, complete that restart before running the repair commands. A pending servicing operation can interfere with component repair.
2. Run DISM as administrator
- Open the Start menu.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Enter this command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Press Enter and wait for it to finish.
The scan can appear to pause at a percentage for several minutes. Do not close the window while it is working. A successful result says that the restore operation completed successfully.
If DISM reports that source files could not be found, make sure Windows Update is working and run the command again after restarting. Microsoft also supports using a matching Windows installation source:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:C:RepairSourceWindows /LimitAccess
Replace C:RepairSourceWindows with a legitimate repair source matching the installed Windows edition, version, language, and architecture. Do not point DISM at an unrelated Windows installation.
Repeating DISM without understanding what changed can make troubleshooting slow and confusing. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for system problems and show what needs attention, while its repair functions require the full version; it is optional, and Microsoft’s built-in DISM and SFC remain the primary repair path.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →3. Run SFC after DISM
In the same elevated Command Prompt, enter:
sfc /scannow
Press Enter and wait until verification reaches 100 percent. Then interpret the result:
- Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations: SFC found no damaged protected files.
- Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them: restart Windows and test the affected program.
- Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them: restart, run DISM again, then run SFC again.
- Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation: restart into Safe Mode and repeat the SFC scan.
Restart after SFC completes, even if it repaired only one file. The repaired component may not be loaded until the next boot.
Confirm the file location and architecture
On a normal installation, open File Explorer and enter this path in the address bar:
%SystemRoot%System32
Look for txflog.dll.
On 64-bit Windows, also check:
%SystemRoot%SysWOW64
System32 contains 64-bit system binaries on 64-bit Windows, while WOW64 redirects 32-bit applications to the 32-bit system components in SysWOW64. The names are confusing, but they are intentional Windows compatibility paths.

A 32-bit application normally uses the 32-bit Windows component path. A 64-bit application uses the 64-bit path. Copying an arbitrary file with the same name does not correct a wrong build, missing dependency, invalid signature, or damaged component-store registration.

What each txflog.dll error usually means
“The program can’t start because txflog.dll is missing”
Windows could not find the expected file when the program started. The file may have been deleted, quarantined, damaged, or removed from the Windows image.
Start with Windows Update, DISM, and SFC. If the file is present in the expected location but the error remains, the problem may be a dependency or an application referencing the wrong architecture.
“The code execution cannot proceed because txflog.dll was not found”
This is another loader message. It does not prove that the named file alone is the problem. Windows may be unable to load the DLL because a dependency required by it is missing or incompatible.
Repair Windows first, then investigate the application if only one program fails.
“Error loading txflog.dll. The specified module could not be found”
“Specified module” can mean the DLL named in the message, but it can also mean a dependent module that Windows needs while loading it. This is why copying txflog.dll into an application folder often fails to solve the error.

“The specified procedure could not be found”
The file may exist, but the application requested an entry point that the installed build does not provide. Common causes include mixing files from different Windows releases, using the wrong architecture, or loading an incompatible application component.
Do not replace the DLL with an older or newer download. Repair the Windows installation and reinstall the affected application from its official installer.
“txflog.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error”
This usually indicates corruption, a mismatched binary, an invalid file, or a dependency problem. Check the file’s location and digital signature, then run DISM and SFC.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
“Cannot find C:WindowsSystem32txflog.dll”
The path in the message is the expected 64-bit system location on a typical Windows installation. Do not assume that manually copying a file there is the right response. A missing protected system file should be restored through Windows servicing.
Check Windows Security quarantine
Windows Security may have removed a legitimate system component, or it may have detected a counterfeit file placed by an unofficial installer.
- Open the Start menu.
- Search for Windows Security and open it.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent actions involving
txflog.dll. - Open an entry to see its location and detection details.
Only consider restoring a quarantined file if all of the following are true:
- The file is in the expected Windows system directory.
- Its publisher is Microsoft.
- Its digital signature is valid.
- It was not obtained from a DLL download website.
- You have confirmed the detection is a false positive.
If the file came from an unofficial download site, do not restore it. Remove it and repair Windows with DISM and SFC instead. Microsoft notes that restoring a quarantined file may cause Defender to detect it again unless it is explicitly allowed, which is not a reason to weaken protection for an unverified file.
To inspect a file’s signature:
- Open File Explorer.
- Browse to the file.
- Right-click
txflog.dll. - Select Properties.
- Open the Digital Signatures tab.
- Select the signer and choose Details.
A missing signature, an unexpected folder, or a publisher other than Microsoft is a reason to distrust the file and run a complete Windows Security scan.
If only one older application fails
A single-program failure points toward an application installation problem, an obsolete loader reference, or a compatibility issue rather than a system-wide Windows failure.
First test another program that uses normal Windows components. If Windows itself works normally and only one older application reports txflog.dll, repair that application:
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Find the affected application.
- Open its menu or select it.
- Choose Modify, Repair, or Advanced options if available.
- Complete the repair and restart the application.
If no repair option exists:
- Back up the application’s saves, profiles, and configuration files.
- Uninstall the application.
- Restart Windows.
- Download the installer from the software publisher’s official source.
- Install the correct architecture and version.
- Test the application before restoring optional modifications or plugins.
Reinstalling an application does not normally restore a Windows system DLL. It can help when the application has a damaged installation, an incorrect private dependency, or an obsolete reference to a Windows component.
Do not assume that Visual C++ Redistributable, DirectX, or .NET will restore txflog.dll. Those packages are not verified standalone redistributables for this file.
Check Windows features only when the application depends on them
COM Services is part of Windows, not a separate txflog.dll download. Windows Features can still help diagnose an application that depends on an optional Windows compatibility component.
- Press Windows + R.
- Type:
optionalfeatures
- Press Enter.
- Review the enabled features.
- Do not randomly disable or enable features to replace
txflog.dll. - If the failing application explicitly requires an optional feature, enable that feature, select OK, and restart when prompted.
Changing unrelated features is unlikely to repair a missing protected system DLL. Use DISM and SFC for the Windows component itself.
Device Manager and driver updates
txflog.dll is not a device driver, so Device Manager is not the normal repair location. Check it only when the error appeared alongside hardware failures, storage problems, or a recent driver installation.
- Right-click the Start button.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand categories related to the hardware involved in the failure.
- Look for a warning icon.
- Right-click the affected device.
- Select Properties and review the General and Driver tabs.
- Use Update driver only with a driver from Windows Update or the hardware manufacturer.
- Restart Windows after a driver change.
Do not uninstall a working device driver solely because txflog.dll is missing. Check the disk controller, storage device, and chipset entries when the computer has signs of filesystem instability or unexpected shutdowns.
Hunting through many driver versions manually can be tedious when hardware errors accompany the DLL message. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and identify outdated drivers, while driver installation requires the full version; it is optional and does not replace Windows component repair.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Check the disk if corruption keeps returning
A failing drive or damaged filesystem can repeatedly corrupt protected files. Back up important data before testing storage.
Open an elevated Command Prompt:
- Open Start.
- Search for
Command Prompt. - Right-click it.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
chkdsk C: /scan
This performs an online scan of the system volume. If it reports problems that require repair, follow its instructions. Windows may schedule a repair for the next restart.

After the filesystem check, run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
sfc /scannow
If drive-health tools report warnings, back up the system and replace the storage device before spending time on repeated software repairs.

Read the SFC log when repair fails
If SFC says it could not repair some files, inspect the relevant entries in the Component-Based Servicing log.
The log is located at:
%windir%LogsCBSCBS.log
You can open it by pressing Windows + R, entering the path, and pressing Enter. Search for:
txflog.dll
Also search for:
Cannot repair member file
The log can show whether Windows found a damaged file, whether the component store was the source of the problem, and whether another dependency failed first.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Do not delete the CBS log or the WinSxS component store to make space. Windows uses the component store for repair and recovery, and deleting its contents can prevent updates or repairs from working.
Try System Restore or an in-place repair
Use System Restore when the error began after a recent driver, utility, update, or system change and a restore point exists.
- Open Start.
- Search for Create a restore point.
- Open it.
- Select System Restore.
- Choose a restore point from before the problem began.
- Review the affected programs and drivers.
- Start the restore and let Windows restart.
System Restore does not replace personal documents, but it can remove recently installed software or drivers.
If DISM, SFC, Windows Update, and application repair all fail, perform an in-place Windows repair using official Microsoft installation media that matches the installed edition and language. Start setup.exe from within Windows and choose the option to keep personal files and applications when offered. Back up important data first.

A clean installation is a last resort after backup. It is not the first response to one missing DLL.
What not to do
Do not download txflog.dll from a random DLL site
An arbitrary replacement can contain malware, have the wrong architecture, belong to another Windows build, lack a valid Microsoft signature, or introduce a second dependency problem. It may also be placed in the wrong directory and hide the original issue.
Use Windows Update, DISM, SFC, System Restore, official Windows installation media, and the affected application’s official installer instead.
Do not copy a 32-bit file into System32
On 64-bit Windows, a 32-bit application normally uses the 32-bit system path through WOW64. Copying files between System32 and SysWOW64 can make the loader situation worse.
Do not use regsvr32 as a generic DLL repair
regsvr32 is for registering DLLs that expose DllRegisterServer. txflog.dll metadata shows DllGetClassObject, not DllRegisterServer, so registering it is not the normal repair. A registration error does not restore a missing Windows component.
Do not delete WinSxS contents
The component store is part of Windows servicing. Manual deletion can break updates, repairs, or startup.
Frequently asked questions
Is txflog.dll malware?
The genuine Microsoft file is a legitimate Windows component. A file with the same name in an application folder, temporary directory, download folder, or other unexpected location should be treated cautiously. Verify its location, Microsoft signature, and Windows Security history.
Is txflog.dll a COM+ file?
Yes. It is associated with COM Services and COM+ functionality. It also relates to Transactional NTFS logging. Microsoft describes TxF as deprecated, but not fully removed.
Where should txflog.dll be?
The normal 64-bit location is %SystemRoot%System32. On 64-bit Windows, the 32-bit counterpart generally belongs in %SystemRoot%SysWOW64. Exact servicing details depend on the installed Windows build.
Is there a Microsoft txflog.dll download?
There is no verified standalone Microsoft txflog.dll redistributable. Restore it through Windows Update, DISM, SFC, System Restore, or Windows repair media.
Why does reinstalling an application sometimes help?
The application may have a damaged installation or an obsolete reference, even though txflog.dll itself belongs to Windows. Reinstalling can repair the application’s loader and dependencies, but it should not be expected to replace the Windows system file.
What should I report if the error remains?
Record the exact error text, Windows edition and build, system architecture, affected executable, full path shown in the message, location and signature of any existing txflog.dll, DISM and SFC results, and relevant entries from CBS.log. This information distinguishes a missing file from a dependency failure, architecture mismatch, quarantine event, or damaged component store.
