Reports published June 10, 2026, say Ubisoft shut down its Winnipeg, Canada, and Belgrade, Serbia, studios and planned further job reductions in Barcelona and its global publishing business. The reports do not establish that these actions happened exactly one week after another studio shutdown, so that timing should not be treated as confirmed.
Which Ubisoft studios are closing?
Game Informer reported that Ubisoft had shuttered its Winnipeg and Belgrade studios. Game Developer likewise described the two locations as closures, alongside proposed reductions elsewhere.
| Location | Reported action | Reported number affected | Other reported detail |
|---|---|---|---|
| Winnipeg, Canada | Studio closure | 65 employees, reported by Game Informer; Insider Gaming corrected its earlier estimate to 65. | Insider Gaming said the initial estimate of 85 was incorrect. |
| Belgrade, Serbia | Studio closure | Roughly 100 employees, according to Game Informer. | No more specific final tally was established in the reports cited here. |
| Barcelona, Spain | Proposed job reductions; studio reported to remain open | 51 employees, according to Game Informer. | Game Developer reported that the studio was expected to focus solely on Rainbow Six. |
| San Francisco, United States | Further reductions reported | Game Informer described the affected number as dozens; an exact count was not stated. | The report connected these reductions with the broader restructuring. |
| Ubisoft global publishing business | Proposed job reductions | No location-specific count stated. | Game Developer described the proposed cuts as part of reductions across the global publishing business. |
How many Ubisoft employees are affected?
The reporting cited a possible maximum of up to 380 roles affected across the changes. Game Informer attributed that figure to an internal message obtained by Insider Gaming, while Game Developer said the proposed reductions were pending consultation. It is therefore a reported ceiling for potential cuts, not a finalized company-wide layoff total.
The location-level figures have different levels of precision: Winnipeg’s count was corrected to 65, Belgrade’s was described as roughly 100, Barcelona’s was reported as 51, and San Francisco’s count was described only as dozens. These reported estimates should not be added together and presented as a definitive tally.

Is Ubisoft Barcelona closing?
No. The June 10 reports described proposed job reductions in Barcelona, not a studio closure. Game Developer reported that the studio was expected to remain open and focus solely on Rainbow Six.
Were Rainbow Six project staffing changes additional layoffs?
Insider Gaming reported that 120 people working on Rainbow Six Siege and around 50 people working on Rainbow Six Siege Mobile and an unannounced project were ramped off. The outlet said its sources did not consider those project staffing changes to be additional layoffs at the time. They should not be counted as a separate set of confirmed job cuts.

Insider Gaming attributed this explanation to an unnamed Ubisoft source: “Rainbow Six Siege remains a strong brand. As projects move through different stages of development and live operations, it is normal practice to adjust team size and resource allocation based on evolving priorities and operational needs.”
Why is Ubisoft restructuring?
The reported closures and reductions follow Ubisoft’s January 2026 reset, which reporting described as a reorganization around creative houses and portfolio changes. Game Informer reported that Vantage Studios would manage Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six, and also noted cancellations including Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. That context helps explain the company-wide restructuring, but the June reports do not establish a specific cause for each local closure or proposed reduction.

Did Ubisoft lay off developers a week after closing a studio?
The June 10, 2026, coverage establishes that Winnipeg and Belgrade were closed and that further reductions were reported or proposed in other parts of Ubisoft. It does not identify and date a separate studio shutdown that would verify the precise “a week after” sequence in the headline. The one-week timing remains unsubstantiated by these reports.
Game Informer and Game Developer said they had sought comment from Ubisoft; the reporting cited here did not establish a statement from a named company spokesperson.
