Ubisoft confirmed on November 7, 2023, that it was eliminating 124 positions worldwide, including 98 in Canada. The company described the move as part of an effort to streamline operations and improve efficiency; it said production teams were not affected.
Which Ubisoft teams and locations were affected?
The 98 Canadian positions were spread across business administrative services and IT, as well as Hybride, a Montreal-based visual-effects studio distinct from Ubisoft Montreal’s game-development studio. The reductions also included global IT positions outside the Canadian total. GamesBeat reported that the Canadian cuts represented about 2% of Ubisoft’s Canadian staff at the time.
The 124 figure is the total number of positions affected by this November 2023 restructuring. It should not be read as 124 layoffs in Canada, or as a Hybride-only reduction.
What reason did Ubisoft give?
Ubisoft said its teams had been exploring ways to streamline operations and improve collective efficiency, and that it was reorganizing the general and administrative functions of its Canadian studios while reducing headcount at Hybride and in global IT. That is the company’s stated rationale, not an independently established cause.

A Ubisoft spokesperson told GameSpot: “This restructuring does not affect our production teams.” Ubisoft also said it would provide comprehensive support. For affected Canadian employees, reported measures included severance packages, extended benefits where applicable, and career assistance; the reports do not establish that every measure applied identically to all 124 positions.
How does the 2023 reduction fit Ubisoft’s later workforce changes?
Ubisoft’s May 15, 2024, full-year results described continuing organizational simplification and targeted restructuring. The company reported 19,011 employees at the end of March 2024, more than 1,700 fewer than 18 months earlier. It also reported an FY2023–24 fixed cost base of around €1.6 billion, around €150 million lower year on year, including a favorable foreign-exchange impact.
