The company described the issue as limited to one or two specific graphics cards, though the cards were not identified in contemporary reporting. Separate from that fix, Ubisoft was still investigating performance problems and issued further patches.
What was the “No-Face” glitch?
Some non-player characters in Assassin’s Creed Unity lost their face textures, leaving the characters visibly faceless. The visual glitch drew attention when images began circulating online, and contemporary coverage nicknamed it the “No-Face” bug. GameSpot reported Ubisoft’s characterization that the problem appeared on “one or two specific graphics cards.” The report did not name those cards, so it does not establish which PC hardware was affected or whether the problem was exclusive to a particular manufacturer.

Did Ubisoft fix the glitch?
Yes, according to Ubisoft’s statement reported by GameSpot on November 19, 2014. Ubisoft said the No-Face issue had been addressed by the launch-day patch and later updates. It added: “This should not be affecting any players who are allowing their game to be automatically patched as recommended with updates as they are released.” This is a report of the company’s 2014 fix, not a new patch announcement.
What did “more optimizations coming” mean?
It referred to a separate performance issue, not another stage of the No-Face fix. Ubisoft’s Live Updates Team said on November 18, 2014, that “the instruction queue is becoming overloaded and impacting performance,” and that the team was exploring and testing fixes. Ubisoft did not give an exact release date in that statement. It also tested whether reducing crowd size would help, then said the tests found no connection to the frame-rate problem and that crowds would remain as they were. Ubisoft’s Steam update recorded both findings.

What the follow-up patches addressed
In its 2014 Patch 3 announcement, Ubisoft said the update included more than 300 fixes and addressed some frame-rate drops, while noting that further frame-rate work remained planned. The same announcement said Patch 4 was expected the following week and would target stability, performance, online matchmaking, and connectivity. These were updates to the game’s launch-era problems, not evidence that the No-Face glitch was still unresolved.
