Ubisoft’s latest direct status confirmation located here was reported on February 19, 2026: the project remained in development after layoffs at the studio. That dated update does not verify its status on October 8, 2026. Ubisoft has not announced a release date or platforms in the official materials reviewed.
What Ubisoft has announced
On December 15, 2021, Ubisoft said it had greenlit a remake of the original Splinter Cell, with Ubisoft Toronto leading development and Snowdrop used to rebuild the game from the ground up. Ubisoft described it as a remake, not a remaster: the plan was to update the presentation and selected design elements while retaining the spirit of the early games. Ubisoft’s announcement and interview provide the original details.
Ubisoft also said the remake was intended to remain linear rather than become open world. Producer Matt West put the stated direction plainly: “we are going to keep it linear like the original games, not make it open world.” That is a development intention documented in 2021, not a guarantee about the finished game.
How Ubisoft described the intended stealth experience
Creative Director Chris Auty described preserving a style of play built around observing situations, planning, using gadgets, and creatively outsmarting enemies. Producer Matt West also talked about dense spaces designed to offer meaningful choices, describing them as places where “every square inch represents intentionality.” Together, those comments suggest Ubisoft wanted to modernize the original without abandoning its deliberate, player-led stealth.

What the Snowdrop engine comments do—and do not—confirm
Ubisoft’s 2022 discussion used ray-traced global illumination and audio occlusion as examples of capabilities Snowdrop could support. Those examples help explain why the team chose the engine and what it hoped to explore. They do not establish that the remake’s final version will include those specific effects, or define how they will work across platforms.
