In the same May 15, 2024 results release, the company announced it had stopped development on The Division Heartland and would redeploy resources to XDefiant and Rainbow Six. Ubisoft did not say the cancellation caused, or was necessary to achieve, its financial result.
What Ubisoft reported for FY2023–24
Ubisoft’s fiscal year ran from April 1, 2023, through March 31, 2024. Its results, published May 15, 2024, reported three distinct figures that should not be conflated:
| Measure | FY2023–24 result | What Ubisoft said |
|---|---|---|
| IFRS 15 sales | €2,300.9 million | Reported sales measure under IFRS 15 |
| Net bookings | €2,321.4 million | Up 33.5% compared with FY2022–23 |
| Non-IFRS operating income | €401 million | In line with target |
The “sales targets” phrasing can obscure the key distinction: Ubisoft said operating income met its target; IFRS 15 sales and net bookings are separate measures. The company’s FY2023–24 results release presents them separately.
Why did Ubisoft stop development on The Division Heartland?
Ubisoft said it had decided to stop development on The Division Heartland as part of what it called increased selectivity in investment. The company said it had redeployed resources to “bigger opportunities such as XDefiant and Rainbow Six.” This was a portfolio and resource-allocation decision as described by Ubisoft, not a game-specific explanation of what went wrong.

The release did not attribute the decision to weak testing, poor sales, production problems, or any other standalone product-level cause. It also did not say the cancellation was responsible for reaching the operating-income target.
How the cancellation fits Ubisoft’s stated strategy
Ubisoft described a focus on two areas: Open World Adventures and native Games-as-a-Service experiences. It also cited efforts to streamline operations and adapt to market trends. Those statements provide context for its emphasis on selectivity, but the company did not explicitly say that either strategic vertical was the direct reason it ended The Division Heartland.
Ubisoft reported a workforce of 19,011 at the end of March 2024, down by more than 1,700 over 18 months. That is company-reported organizational context; the results release does not establish it as a cause of the game’s cancellation.

CEO Yves Guillemot said: “Our FY 2024 results confirm that Ubisoft is back on track on its profitable growth trajectory, with record annual and Q4 net bookings, and operating income aligned with our targets.” The statement reflects Ubisoft’s characterization of its performance; it does not connect the financial result to the Heartland decision.
