Ubisoft’s January 2026 Game Cancellations and Stock Selloff: Was It Under $1?

Ubisoft’s January 2026 reset included six game cancellations and a severe financial outlook. Dated reporting confirms a sharp selloff, but does not verify a move below $1.

No available dated price record verifies that Ubisoft stock fell below $1. Ubisoft trades on Euronext Paris in euros, and the January 2026 market reports cited here describe a steep selloff—not a verified move below €1 or a US-dollar equivalent. Ubisoft did announce six game cancellations and seven delays on January 21, 2026. Those decisions, the company’s financial outlook and the reported market reaction are important context, but they do not establish the share price on October 8, 2026.

Did Ubisoft stock fall under $1?

The claim remains unverified. Ubisoft’s investor information identifies its ordinary shares as ticker UBI, traded on Euronext Paris in euros, with ISIN FR0000054470. A claim that the stock fell “under $1” needs a dated price and a specified trading venue and currency; a US-dollar figure also needs an exchange-rate basis. The available price reporting does not provide that evidence for October 8, 2026.

The contemporary reports instead document a sharp January decline. Le Monde reported that Ubisoft shares were down 38% by mid-afternoon on January 22 and closed at €4.06 on January 23, 2026. Those are historical figures from a secondary news report, not a current quote and not proof that the shares later crossed below €1 or $1. The same report said the shares had already lost half their value during 2025.

So the defensible conclusion is narrower than the assigned headline: Ubisoft suffered a severe selloff around its January reset announcement, but the “under $1” price claim is not established by these dated figures.

What games did Ubisoft cancel?

In its January 21, 2026 announcement, Ubisoft said it had discontinued six games and given seven others more development time. The only cancelled game it named was Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake. The other five were not identified in the announcement: four were unannounced games, including three new intellectual properties, and one was a mobile title.

  • Cancelled: six games in total, with only the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake named publicly in the announcement.
  • Delayed: seven other games received additional development time; Ubisoft did not name them in that announcement.

The release therefore does not support claims that particular unannounced projects were among the cancellations. It also distinguishes the seven projects receiving more time from the six Ubisoft said it had discontinued.

Why did Ubisoft cancel six games and restructure?

Ubisoft presented the cancellations as part of a broader operating and portfolio reset. The company said the AAA market had become more selective, development costs were rising, competition in shooters was intense, and establishing new brands had become more challenging. These are Ubisoft management’s stated reasons, not independently proven explanations for the company’s performance or share-price movement.

CEO and co-founder Yves Guillemot described the company’s view on January 21: “On the one hand, the AAA industry has become persistently more selective and competitive with rising development costs and greater challenges in creating brands. On the other hand, exceptional AAA games, when successful, have more financial potential than ever.” That is management’s framing of the market and the strategy behind concentrating resources; it is not a neutral assessment of industry conditions.

The reset also included five Creative Houses, a Creative Network, changes to headquarters, studio closures or restructurings, and a renewed cost-reduction plan. Ubisoft said the portfolio choices were intended to redirect investment and improve its operating model. The January announcement does not identify every project affected or provide enough detail to infer which specific studios or teams were tied to each cancellation.

What did the financial outlook and later results show?

Ubisoft’s January figures were forecasts for FY2025–26, not final results. Its May report then supplied the reported full-year net bookings figure and a new outlook. In July it updated investors on the first quarter of the following fiscal year.

Date and period Figure or outlook How to read it
January 21, 2026; FY2025–26 forecast Net bookings of about €1.5 billion; non-IFRS EBIT of about -€1 billion; free cash flow between -€400 million and -€500 million These were January forecasts. Ubisoft attributed part of the EBIT outlook to around €650 million in accelerated depreciation linked to portfolio decisions.
May 20, 2026; FY2025–26 reported result Net bookings of €1,525 million, down 17% year over year Ubisoft said the decrease primarily reflected a softer new-release schedule.
May 20, 2026; FY2026–27 forecast Net bookings down by a high single-digit percentage; high single-digit negative non-IFRS operating margin; free-cash-flow consumption of no more than €500 million These were company forecasts, not reported results.
July 23, 2026; Q1 FY2026–27 reported result Net bookings of €255.8 million, down 9.2% year over year and slightly above guidance Ubisoft said the decline mainly reflected comparison with bookings for Assassin’s Creed Shadows in the prior-year quarter.

For the later outlook, Ubisoft said it expected a larger content pipeline in FY2027–28 and FY2028–29, and anticipated positive free cash flow and non-IFRS EBIT in FY2027–28. Those remain company expectations rather than established outcomes. In July, Ubisoft said its FY2026–27 and mid-term outlook remained confirmed.

What can be concluded about the selloff?

The timing links the January announcement and the reported fall: Ubisoft announced its reset on January 21, and Le Monde reported a sharp decline the following day. The announcement included cancellations, restructuring and a severe financial forecast, all of which form relevant context. But neither Ubisoft’s announcement nor the reported market movement proves that any single decision caused the full decline. Share prices can reflect multiple expectations and market factors, and the available reporting does not establish a single cause.

For readers assessing the headline, keep three facts separate: Ubisoft announced six cancellations and seven delays; its shares were reported at €4.06 at the January 23 close; and the under-$1 claim lacks a dated price record in the available sources. The January quote cannot be used as an October 8 price.
