Ubisoft’s new subsidiary, Vantage Studios, is no longer just a proposed spinout: Tencent’s investment closed on November 21, 2025. Tencent invested €1.16 billion for a 26.32% economic interest, while Ubisoft retained exclusive control and continues to consolidate the subsidiary. Vantage is built around Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six.
What is Vantage Studios?
Vantage Studios is the name Ubisoft uses for Ubisoft Nova SAS, a France-headquartered subsidiary formed around three of its major game franchises. It covers the teams developing Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six, as well as relevant back catalogs and games in development or to be developed.
The teams identified by Ubisoft are in Montréal, Quebec City, Sherbrooke, Saguenay, Barcelona, and Sofia. Ubisoft’s March transaction announcement said it would grant the subsidiary a worldwide, exclusive, irrevocable, perpetual license to relevant franchise intellectual property in exchange for a royalty. The arrangement is therefore not simply a sale of those brands to Tencent.
What did Tencent invest, and what did it receive?
Tencent invested €1.16 billion in cash and received a 26.32% economic interest in Vantage Studios when the deal closed. Ubisoft said it retained exclusive control and consolidation of the subsidiary. Tencent is a minority shareholder in Vantage, not the controller of Ubisoft or Vantage.

The transaction terms changed between the March agreement and the November closing announcement. The difference reflects the proposed and completed deal snapshots, rather than a contradiction:

Ubisoft’s March announcement also described the proposed valuation as implying about 4x the average sales for FY2023–FY2025E. FY2025E was an estimate, not an audited historical result. How did the deal unfold?
- March 27, 2025: Ubisoft announced a binding agreement for Tencent to invest €1.16 billion for an approximate 25% economic interest in the planned subsidiary.
- July 16, 2025: Ubisoft named Charlie Guillemot and Christophe Derennes co-CEOs. Guillemot was assigned the “what”—brand vision, direction, content development, and marketing—while Derennes was assigned the “how,” including production, co-development, and technology.
- October 1, 2025: Ubisoft announced that Vantage Studios had fully launched and was responsible for developing and expanding the three franchises.
- November 21, 2025: Ubisoft announced that Tencent’s investment had closed, confirming its 26.32% economic interest and Ubisoft’s continuing exclusive control and consolidation.
Ubisoft’s October launch announcement calls Vantage a “creative house” and says it is intended to share services and technical resources while giving developers more hands-on control.
What authority does Tencent have?
Ubisoft described Tencent’s protections as minority-investor governance rights, including vetoes and consent rights in specified circumstances. The closing announcement also confirmed a five-year lock-up, subject to a stated exception, and other share-transfer and change-of-control provisions. These terms do not make Tencent the controlling party; Ubisoft says it retains exclusive control of Vantage.

Vantage has a dedicated leadership team and board, with authority across development, marketing, and distribution, according to Ubisoft’s March announcement. The releases describe the governance structure but do not establish how particular creative or business decisions will play out in practice.
Why did Ubisoft create the subsidiary?
Ubisoft says the structure is intended to help the three franchises develop into evergreen, multiplatform ecosystems. Its stated ambitions include stronger creative capacity, more narrative-led solo experiences, broader multiplayer offerings with more frequent content, free-to-play touchpoints, and social features.

Those are strategic aims, not demonstrated outcomes. The company’s announcements establish the transaction, structure, and intended direction; they do not show that Vantage has already improved game quality, sales, or player engagement.

In the near term, players should understand this as a change in corporate structure and franchise organization—not as evidence that a specific release, game model, or player experience has changed. Vantage is responsible for development and expansion of the three brands, but Ubisoft’s public announcements do not quantify any resulting changes to release schedules, monetization, or game quality.

The meaningful test will be what Ubisoft and Vantage actually ship and how they support those games. The investment alone does not establish whether the promised creative and multiplayer ambitions will succeed.
