UFO 50 gives you all 50 games from the start. You do not have to beat one to unlock another: the connection between them is shared fictional continuity and discovery, not a collection-wide progression ladder. For a first session, browse the library, read a few short descriptions, and try games in different genres.
Do you have to unlock the games in UFO 50?
No. The collection’s developer, Mossmouth, describes UFO 50 as 50 complete games, all available immediately. You can jump between them rather than follow a required sequence. Mossmouth’s Steam listing and the official UFO Soft site present the games as a library to explore.

Players sometimes ask how “meta progression” works. That phrase can suggest a system where completing one title unlocks the next, but official descriptions do not describe such a system. Progress in one game is not a prerequisite for accessing the others.
What does shared progression mean here?
The games are presented as releases from UFO Soft, a fictional 1980s developer. Some are sequels, and characters recur across titles, so playing more of the collection can reveal connections and add context. That shared world is a thread to follow if you enjoy it—not a gate you must pass through to reach the rest of the library.

#1 Best Overall
- Minecraft is a game about placing blocks and going on adventures
- Explore randomly generated worlds and build amazing things from the simplest of homes to the grandest of castles
- Play in creative mode with unlimited resources or mine deep into the world in survival mode, crafting weapons and armor to fend off the dangerous mobs
- Play on the go in handheld or tabletop modes
- Includes Super Mario Mash-Up, Natural Texture Pack, Biome Settlers Skin Pack, Battle & Beasts Skin Pack, Campfire Tales Skin Pack; Compatible with Nintendo Switch only
There are also secrets to discover. Developer Eirik Suhrke told GamesRadar+: “UFO 50 is all about exploration,” and “And in order to have exploration, there needs to be stuff to find.” The collection includes hidden discoveries, including a scavenger hunt involving the Terminal; players have also found a 51st game. If you want to discover things yourself, avoid detailed secret guides until you are ready for spoilers.
Where should a beginner start?
There is no official best starting game or required order. Choose by what sounds fun and how much time or uncertainty you want to take on:
Rank #2
- Explore each stage and then find even more secrets by making your way through the stage backwards on the flip side
- Overcome varied enemies and obstacles, like Zombie Guys, Skelesaurus, Ukiki, and Monty Mole as you seek out hidden collectables; ESRB Content: Mild Cartoon Violence; Genre: Action, Platformer
- Pass a Joy Con controller to a friend for 2 player cooperative exploration
- Clad Yoshi in collectable, protective, handicraft costumes as he makes his way through each stage
- Pick a genre: The collection ranges across platformers, shoot ’em ups, puzzles, roguelites, role-playing games, strategy and sports. A premise or genre label is a better starting point than assuming the first game is an introduction to everything else.
- Match the session to your time: Some games are built around short arcade-style rounds; others are larger adventures or RPGs. Try a quick game when you want a brief session, or settle into a longer one when you want more to explore.
- Decide whether you want to play solo or with others: Mossmouth says about half the collection supports local multiplayer, but the available mode varies by game. Check the specific game’s listing or instructions before gathering a group.
- Choose your appetite for discovery: Some titles reward experimentation, and secrets run through the collection. If you prefer clear instructions, start with a game whose premise and objective are easy to understand, then consult its instructions if you get stuck.
The range includes very different kinds of play. For example, the Steam description calls Campanella 2 an exploration adventure with procedurally generated levels, while Grimstone is a JRPG with skill-based battles and overworld encounters that can be avoided strategically. These illustrate the variety; neither is an officially recommended beginner pick.
How do you learn a game’s rules?
Each title has its own controls and objectives, so do not expect one set of rules to explain all 50. Read the game’s in-game instructions when available. If you still need help, look for a guide specific to that game; Steam lists a community guide titled “The missing manuals – How to play UFO 50 games.” Guides to secrets and later discoveries may reveal more than basic instructions, so check what they cover before reading.

Can you play UFO 50 with other people?
Yes, locally in the games that support multiplayer. Mossmouth says roughly half the collection has local multiplayer, including cooperative and versus modes. That does not mean every game supports every mode. On Switch, Nintendo lists single-system play for 1–3 players and TV, tabletop and handheld modes; check each game’s instructions for its specific multiplayer setup. Nintendo’s Switch listing identifies that edition as digital.
