uianimation.dll is a genuine Microsoft Windows component used by Windows Animation Manager. If uianimation.dll is missing, not found, cannot be loaded, or reports that it is not designed to run on Windows, the safest fix is to identify whether Windows or one application is at fault.
Do not download a replacement DLL from a random website. First check the path in the error, then repair Windows or the affected application.

This is not a Visual C++ Redistributable, DirectX redistributable, .NET component, or graphics-driver file. A program can trigger the error when it starts, but that does not prove the application owns the DLL.
On supported Windows installations, the normal system copy is generally under:
%WINDIR%System32
On 64-bit Windows, 32-bit applications may use the corresponding 32-bit system-file area. Windows uses the counterintuitive convention that System32 contains 64-bit system files, while SysWOW64 contains 32-bit compatibility files. The exact presence and location can vary by Windows architecture, edition, servicing level, and installed components.
First check: which path is named?
Read the complete error message or open the application’s details and look for the path associated with uianimation.dll.
- A path under
C:WindowsSystem32or another Windows directory points toward Windows component corruption, servicing trouble, or an architecture problem. - A path under the application’s installation folder points toward an incomplete or damaged application installation.
- “The specified module could not be found” can mean a dependency of
uianimation.dllis missing, not necessarily that the named file itself is absent. - “Not designed to run on Windows” or “Bad Image” usually indicates corruption, an invalid format, a wrong architecture, or a mismatched binary.
Do not choose a replacement based only on a file version or size. The copy must match the installed Windows build and architecture.
Fix 1: Update Windows and restart
Time needed: 10–30 minutes, depending on pending updates.
A failed update, interrupted restart, or abrupt shutdown can leave protected system components inconsistent.
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install all available updates.
- Restart the computer, even if Windows does not immediately require it.
- Open the affected program again.
If the program now starts, the issue was likely an incomplete update or a repaired Windows component. If the error remains, continue with DISM and SFC.
Fix 2: Repair Windows with DISM and SFC
Time needed: 15–45 minutes.
Microsoft recommends repairing the Windows image with DISM before running System File Checker. This is the main repair path when the error points to a Windows directory or affects more than one application.
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes if User Account Control asks for permission.
- Run this command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for the operation to complete successfully. Do not close the window just because progress appears to pause.
- In the same administrator window, run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows and test the affected application.
SFC may report that it found and repaired corrupt files, found no integrity violations, or could not repair some files. A successful repair followed by a restart should remove the error. If the error remains, run the commands once more only if DISM completed successfully, then move to the application-specific checks below.
Manually hunting through Windows versions and repeating SFC or DISM without knowing what changed can make diagnosis harder. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for reported system problems and show what it identifies; its repair action is handled by the full version. It is optional, and it does not replace reinstalling an application that owns an app-local copy.

Time needed: 10–30 minutes.
Use this path when the error names the program’s own folder, only one application fails, or Windows repair completes without changing the error.
Try the application’s repair option
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps, then Installed apps.
- Find the affected program.
- Select its three-dot menu.
- Choose Advanced options, if available.
- Select Repair.
- Start the application again.
If Repair does not help, return to the same page and select Reset only if you understand that it may remove application data or settings.
Traditional desktop programs may provide their own repair entry:
- Open Control Panel.
- Select Programs, then Programs and Features.
- Select the affected application.
- Choose Change, Repair, or the equivalent option.
- Complete the installer and restart the program.
Reinstall from the official source
If repair fails:
- Back up the application’s settings or saved files if applicable.
- Uninstall the affected program from Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the current version from the software developer’s official installer.
- Start the program before restoring optional plugins or modifications.
For a game, open its launcher and use Verify integrity, Verify files, or the equivalent command before reinstalling the entire game. A game or application reinstall is the definitive fix when the missing file is genuinely app-local.

Run the program once as administrator only as a diagnostic step: right-click its shortcut, select Properties, open Compatibility, select Run this program as an administrator, and choose Apply. If that changes nothing, turn the setting back off unless the developer requires it.
Fix 4: Check antivirus quarantine
Time needed: 5–15 minutes.
Security software may quarantine or block a file after an update or application change. Do not assume the detection was a false positive.
- Open Windows Security from Start.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent quarantined or blocked items.
- Expand any entry associated with the affected application or DLL.
- Restore a file only after confirming that the detection is false and that the file is genuinely Microsoft-signed or can be repaired through Windows components.
- Run Windows Update, DISM, and SFC after any confirmed quarantine event.
If files repeatedly disappear, perform a full security scan. Persistent corruption may also indicate disk problems or broader Windows damage.
Fix 5: Check architecture and application compatibility
Time needed: 10–20 minutes.
A 32-bit application and a 64-bit application do not always load the same system-file location. A DLL copied from another Windows release can also produce a Bad Image or entry-point error even when the filename is correct.
Check the application architecture in its documentation or installer. If only an older 32-bit program fails on 64-bit Windows, reinstall that program using its current 32-bit installer or compatibility-supported release. Do not copy a 32-bit file into a 64-bit location, or the reverse.

Also check whether the application was designed for an older Windows release. Compatibility mode can be tested by opening the program’s Properties, selecting Compatibility, and using Run compatibility troubleshooter. This does not repair a corrupt Windows DLL, but it can separate an old application problem from a system-file problem.
Fix 6: Do not use regsvr32 for this file
Time needed: No command should be run.
regsvr32 is for DLLs that provide registration functions such as DllRegisterServer. Windows Animation Manager documentation does not identify UIAnimation.dll as a self-registering DLL.
Running:
regsvr32 uianimation.dll
normally does not repair a missing or damaged system component. It may produce an entry-point error or accomplish nothing. Use Windows servicing and application repair instead.

Fix 7: Do not reinstall unrelated runtimes first
Time needed: Avoided troubleshooting time.
Do not assume that reinstalling Visual C++, DirectX, .NET, a graphics driver, or a Windows Feature will restore uianimation.dll. Those components can matter to the application for other reasons, but uianimation.dll belongs to Windows Animation Manager.
Windows Features are relevant only when the application specifically requires an optional Windows component. Open Settings > System > Optional features > More Windows features only when the application’s documentation identifies a required feature. Enabling features at random will not reliably replace this DLL.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Fix 8: Update a driver only when symptoms point to one
Time needed: 10–30 minutes.
A graphics-driver problem can cause an application to crash or display incorrectly, but it is not the normal source of a missing Windows Animation Manager DLL. Consider driver repair only if the application also shows display corruption, DirectX errors, black screens, or device failures.
- Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click the graphics device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
Use the computer or graphics-device manufacturer’s official support channel when Windows cannot find a suitable driver. Guessing among many driver versions is unnecessary work when the problem is actually a Windows component. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and identify outdated drivers; installation through the full version is optional, and a driver update is not a substitute for repairing Windows or reinstalling the affected application.

- Review affected programs.
- Complete the restore and test the application.
System Restore can undo recent updates or software changes, but it may remove subsequently installed applications and settings.
If no restore point works, perform an in-place Windows repair installation using matching Windows installation media. This preserves personal files when completed correctly but still requires careful preparation. A full reinstall is justified only when Windows has broader unrecoverable damage, other system files fail, or repair installation is unavailable. Back up important data first.

FAQ
Is uianimation.dll a Microsoft file?
Yes. It is associated with Microsoft Windows Animation Manager and is supplied as part of Windows on supported installations.
Should I download uianimation.dll?
No. Random DLL sites can provide malware, an unsigned file, the wrong architecture, or a copy from another Windows build. Manual copying can hide the underlying component-store problem.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsIs uianimation.dll a Visual C++ or DirectX file?
No. It is a Windows Animation Manager component. Repair those runtimes only when the application reports a separate runtime dependency.
Why does an application show the error if Windows owns the file?
The application is the caller that requested the Windows component. A broken system copy, missing dependency, architecture mismatch, or damaged application installation can all make the application display the error.
Should I copy the file into System32 or the program folder?
No. Let Windows component repair restore a Windows copy. If the error points to an application directory, repair or reinstall that application from its official installer.
Does regsvr32 fix it?
Normally, no. regsvr32 applies to self-registering DLLs with the required registration entry point, and Windows Animation Manager is not normally repaired that way.
What is the quickest safe path?
Check the path, install Windows updates, restart, run DISM followed by SFC, and then repair or reinstall the affected application if only that program still fails.
