These are the guide author’s recommendations for players weighing PvP and PvE—not results from a documented test or universal rankings. The page’s displayed date and a newer search-indexed update do not match, so treat these placements as a useful snapshot and verify the live list before committing to a build.
How to use this Legacy Piece tier list
The Destructoid guide’s author says he considers both PvP and PvE and compares swords with meta styles and abilities. That gives the rankings a broad, cross-build purpose, but the article does not provide a test protocol, measured damage values, or separate evidence for each game mode. Use its placements as qualitative guidance, then judge options by the kind of performance and setup your build needs.
The tiers below summarize the accessible article version. They are not a complete ranking of every item or a claim that lower-tier choices cannot work.
Best swords
SSS tier: Ichigo True Bankai and Undyne
The guide places Ichigo True Bankai and Undyne at the top of its sword list. It describes Ichigo True Bankai as a high-damage choice after building stacks for Blood Chain, making the setup part of the recommendation: its described payoff depends on getting the rotation fully activated. The guide says Undyne’s Undying Determination mode raises damage and damage reduction, so its appeal combines offense with added survivability. These are the author’s qualitative descriptions, not independently measured results. See the guide’s sword rankings.

Best abilities
S tier: Araya and Procurator
Araya is presented as the more direct high-damage pick. Procurator is described as more complex: its phases take time to master, with the potential for very high damage. That makes the choice less about a simple rank and more about whether you prefer a straightforward damage option or are willing to learn a demanding sequence. The guide does not quantify either ability’s damage.
A tier: Benimaro and Shinru
The accessible list puts Benimaro and Shinru in A tier as alternatives or support options. Consider them when their role better fits your build rather than treating the lower placement as proof that they are unusable. Check the ability placements and descriptions.

Best styles
Yhwach/Almighty
The guide places Yhwach/Almighty among the top styles, while noting that its peak depends on activating its mode. If access to that mode or its timing is unreliable in your play, its top placement may be less relevant to your practical build than it is on paper.
The World (Over Heaven)
The World (Over Heaven) is also ranked at the top. The guide credits it with time-stop and damage-buff utility alongside damage, giving it a mix of offensive and utility value rather than a damage-only profile. The descriptions are qualitative; the source does not establish how these effects perform in specific PvP or PvE situations. See the style rankings.

Choose by build, not tier alone
- Want direct damage: The guide describes Araya as a straightforward high-damage ability. For a sword, it names Ichigo True Bankai as a high-damage option once its Blood Chain stacks and rotation are in place.
- Comfortable with setup or execution: Procurator’s phased sequence and Ichigo True Bankai’s stacking requirement make their described damage more conditional than a pick that does not require the same preparation.
- Want added utility or survivability: The guide highlights Undyne’s damage reduction during Undying Determination and The World (Over Heaven)’s time-stop and damage-buff utility.
- Need a style with a powerful mode: Yhwach/Almighty’s peak is tied to activating its mode, so consider how consistently you can use that condition.
- Still progressing: Lower-tier options are not automatically poor choices for a newer player. The Legacy Piece information hub points players toward game reference resources; use them to check moves and unlock details as you progress.
Check whether the rankings are current
The accessible Destructoid page displays a September 14, 2026 publication and update date, while its search-indexed result showed an October 5, 2026 update and named Chad and Queen of Hatred as additions. Because those versions conflict, the exact newest placements are uncertain; this list reflects the accessible article version rather than silently combining the two. Check the live tier list and the game references linked from the Legacy Piece hub for current rankings, move availability, and unlock information before planning around a specific option.
