What was Umbrella Corps, and when did it come out?
Capcom released Umbrella Corps on June 21, 2016, for PlayStation 4 and PC. Metacritic classifies it as a tactical third-person shooter. The game drew on the Resident Evil setting but was framed around competitive combat rather than the series’ familiar horror experience. Multiplayer could feel hard to read
For a game built around competitive matches, confusion and chaos were especially damaging criticisms. When players struggle to follow or control the action, the tactical premise has less chance to come through.
Clunky play and performance issues undermined the action
Critics also pointed to awkward mechanics and performance problems. Those complaints compound one another: a fast firefight is less satisfying when movement or combat feels cumbersome, and technical trouble can make already hectic encounters less clear.

Too little variety weakened its staying power
Review excerpts also questioned the amount of content and the resulting repetition. That matters particularly in a multiplayer-focused game, where a thin range of experiences can make the core loop wear out quickly. The single-player offering was likewise described as unconvincing, limiting its appeal for players who wanted an alternative to online matches.
Was there anything critics praised?
The criticism was not wholly dismissive of the shooting itself. One displayed review excerpt allows that the game can offer solid gunplay with the right teams, but still concludes that it is not worth prioritizing. That is a narrow positive qualification, not evidence of broad critical approval.

Does Steam’s rating tell a different story?
Steam’s product page showed “Mostly Negative” and 38% positive among 1,342 user reviews in the snapshot accessed October 8, 2026. That is user feedback, not a critic score, and the count and percentage can change. It should not be merged with Metacritic’s critic-review total. Steam lists single-player and online PvP as features, but those catalog labels do not establish current player numbers, matchmaking quality, or online-service condition.
