If Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection crashes or freezes when you start it on PC, first identify exactly where it fails, then check the game version and your PC against the official requirements. Naughty Dog has documented fixes for several specific crashes, but its release notes do not establish one universal cause or a guaranteed fix for every startup failure.
Identify where startup fails
The failure point can help narrow what to check. Note whether the game exits immediately, freezes on an opening logo, fails during shader compilation, or reaches a prompt about a corrupted save. The release notes document a fix for one crash involving the corrupted-save prompt; they do not establish that other startup symptoms have the same cause.
- Immediate exit: Record the game version and your CPU, GPU, and driver details.
- Logo or shader-stage freeze: Note the last screen or activity you see before the game stops responding.
- Corrupted-save prompt: Check the specific version history below before deciding what to do with save data.
Update the game through its store
Check for updates in the store where you bought the game—Steam or the Epic Games Store—and install any available update. Naughty Dog’s March 31, 2023, notes for version 1.2.20711 state: “Hotfix for several crashes reported by users after Patch 2”. That fix concerned crashes reported after Patch 2; it is not evidence that updating resolves every startup crash.
The latest entry in Naughty Dog’s PC release-note section located for this article is version 1.4, dated July 6, 2023. It discusses mouse-camera behavior and audio compatibility, rather than announcing a general startup-crash fix. Read the version 1.2.20711 hotfix notes and the version 1.4 notes.

Compare your PC with the official requirements
PlayStation lists these PC requirements. Use them as a hardware baseline, not as a diagnosis: meeting the requirements does not prove what caused a crash, and falling short does not identify a particular fault.

PlayStation lists a processor requirement as well; check the official requirements page for its exact CPU details and the full requirements. The storage figures are the game’s listed requirements, not evidence that changing drives fixes a crash.

If your CPU does not support AVX2
Naughty Dog’s November 16, 2022, version 1.3.20812 notes say the game switches to a fallback executable—u4-l.exe or tll-l.exe—when it detects an older CPU without AVX2 support. This is documented automatic behavior; do not download either executable separately.
If the game crashes at a corrupted-save prompt
Naughty Dog’s version 1.3.20812 notes say: “Fixed a crash from choosing not to delete a corrupted save file”. The note identifies a specific crash and does not recommend deleting save data as a general startup fix. Deleting a save can cost you progress, so do not remove one unless you understand the consequences and have confirmed whether a usable backup exists.

If you use an Intel Arc graphics card
Intel’s August 15, 2023, driver notes for version 31.0.101.4644 WHQL listed a possible UNCHARTED DX12 launch crash among fixed issues for Intel Arc graphics products. This is historical, GPU-specific context from a third-party-hosted copy of Intel’s release notes—not proof of a current Arc problem or confirmation that a particular current driver fixes your crash. Collect details if it still will not launch
Before trying speculative workarounds, write down the information needed to distinguish a repeatable failure from an unknown cause:
- Exact error text, if any, and the point where the game exits or freezes
- Store version (Steam or Epic) and installed game version
- CPU and GPU models, GPU driver version, and installed RAM
- Windows version and whether the game is on an SSD or another storage device
- Whether the crash occurs before or after shader compilation, or at a corrupted-save prompt
A Steam Community discussion uses the phrase “Freeze at Startup,” but community posts do not verify that any workaround mentioned there is safe or effective. No current, game-specific universal startup troubleshooting procedure is established by the sources cited here. Treat generic PC troubleshooting suggestions as unconfirmed for this game, rather than as publisher-verified fixes. See the Steam Community discussion.
