Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →unerofsstandalone.dll is a Nero application DLL, not a Windows system file. If Windows says it is missing, was not found, or could not be loaded, repair or reinstall the Nero product that needs it rather than copying the file into a Windows folder.
The safest fix is to use Nero’s own repair process or its official installer. Do not download a loose DLL from a random website, place it in System32 or SysWOW64, or run regsvr32 against it.

What is unerofsstandalone.dll
The filename is also shown as uNeroFSStandalone.dll; Windows treats those capitalization differences as the same file. Public software inventories associate it with Nero Burning ROM, Nero Recode, Nero 8, Nero BurnLite, and related Nero products.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe exact Nero product cannot be identified from the filename alone. It is generally stored with the Nero application files, beside the program executable and other Nero modules. Public inventories describe it as a “Nero Library” associated with Nero AG, but those inventories are not a complete official Nero file manifest.

Cataloged copies have been reported as 32-bit, including these reference versions:
| Reported version | Reported size | Architecture |
|---|---|---|
| 15.0.15.0 | 0.53 MB | 32-bit |
| 15.0.5.0 | 0.53 MB | 32-bit |
| 11.0.14.100 | 0.52 MB | 32-bit |
| 8.3.5.0 | 0.22 MB | 32-bit |
These cataloged versions do not prove that the newest copy is correct for every Nero installation. A 64-bit Windows computer can run 32-bit Nero software, so do not choose a replacement based only on the bitness of Windows.
Before repairing anything
Record a few details from the error:
- Note the exact popup text.
- Write down the application named in the title bar.
- Check whether the message appears when opening Nero, at Windows sign-in, or when launching another program.
- Look for the full path if Windows displays one.
- Check whether the issue began after a Nero update, uninstall, antivirus cleanup, backup restore, or disk cleanup.
An error saying “the specified module could not be found” does not always mean the named DLL itself is absent. Windows may be unable to find a dependency required by unerofsstandalone.dll.
Fix 1: Repair Nero from Nero Start
Time needed: 5–15 minutes
This is the most likely solution when Nero recently updated, failed to install, or lost one of its files.
- Close Nero and any related program.
- Open Start and search for Nero Start.
- Open Nero Start.
- Find the installed Nero product that produces the error.
- Select its repair option.
- If Nero displays Repair Nero Product, make sure the computer is online.
- Select Repair now.
- Allow the process to finish, then restart Windows.
- Open the affected Nero program again.
A successful repair restores the required files to the Nero installation directory and allows the program to start without the DLL message.
If Nero Start cannot open, continue with the official reinstall steps below. If repair repeatedly fails, Nero’s repair guidance includes renaming:
C:Program Files (x86)NeroNero CommonAdvrCntr6
to:
AdvrCntr6-1
Temporarily disabling firewall or antivirus protection may also be part of Nero’s documented repair-failure procedure. Only do that while using a verified Nero installer, and re-enable protection immediately afterward.

Fix 2: Reinstall the matching Nero product
Time needed: 15–30 minutes
Use Nero’s official installer page or the official download route for the particular Nero product. Do not use a generic DLL package.
- Open Settings with
Win + I. - Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Search for Nero.
- Select the affected Nero product.
- Choose Uninstall and complete the wizard.
- Restart Windows.
- Download the installer from Nero’s official support or product page.
- Install the same product generation, if known.
- Restart Windows again and test Nero.
For Nero Platinum Suite, Nero 2020, and newer products, reinstallation may require signing in with the Nero account. Nero 2019 and earlier products generally require the product serial number.
If you still need Nero, do not remove it merely to suppress the popup until you have confirmed that you have the installer and activation details. If an ordinary uninstall leaves broken Nero components behind, Nero provides an official FirstAidKit for removing remaining Nero folders, files, and registry entries. Back up serial numbers and personal Nero data before using it, then reinstall Nero from the official source.
Fix 3: Check Windows Security quarantine
Time needed: 5–10 minutes
An antivirus product may have quarantined or deleted a Nero file. Nero has documented antivirus blocking and false-positive incidents, but a current detection should not automatically be treated as harmless.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Open Start and search for Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an action involving Nero or
unerofsstandalone.dll. - Expand the entry and review its location, detection name, and action.
- If the file came from a verified Nero installation, follow your security product’s review process.
- If you are uncertain, leave the file quarantined and reinstall Nero from Nero’s official installer instead.
Do not restore a quarantined file merely because its name matches the error. Restoring an actual threat can expose the computer. If Microsoft Defender restores it but the application remains blocked, Defender may require a separate Allow on device action.
After reinstalling, run another security scan. If the DLL repeatedly disappears, investigate the detection with the antivirus vendor rather than repeatedly downloading replacements.
Fix 4: Check whether a dependency is missing
Time needed: 10–20 minutes
Read the complete error rather than focusing only on the first filename. If it names one of these files, the problem may be a Microsoft Visual C++ runtime:

MSVCP140.dllVCRUNTIME140.dllapi-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dllmsvcr110.dll
Download the matching Visual C++ Redistributable from Microsoft’s official page. Install the architecture required by the Nero application. Many older Nero programs are 32-bit, even on 64-bit Windows, so the x86 package may be required.
- Close Nero.
- Install the Microsoft Visual C++ package named by the error.
- Restart Windows.
- Open Nero again.
Microsoft keeps different Visual C++ runtime versions side by side. Installing a newer package does not necessarily replace every older runtime that an older Nero product may require.
If the error still names unerofsstandalone.dll after the runtime repair, return to Nero repair or reinstall. Repairing a runtime does not recreate a missing Nero application file.
Fix 5: Confirm the file is in Nero’s folder
Time needed: 5 minutes
This check distinguishes a missing file from a loading or dependency problem.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Locate the Nero product.
- Open its menu and choose Modify, Advanced options, or Open file location, if available.
- You can also search File Explorer for
unerofsstandalone.dll. - Check whether the result is inside a Nero installation folder.
If the file exists in the Nero folder but the program still fails, do not copy it elsewhere. The file may be corrupted, incompatible with that Nero build, or unable to load a dependency. Repair the Nero installation.
If the file exists only in an unrelated folder, treat that copy cautiously. A filename match does not prove that it is a genuine Nero component.
Fix 6: Repair Windows components when other programs are also failing
Time needed: 20–45 minutes
Use this step when several applications fail, Windows is unstable, or other system components are also reporting corruption. DISM and SFC repair protected Windows components; they normally do not recreate a third-party Nero DLL removed from the Nero folder.

First check for updates:
- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Restart Windows.
Then open an elevated Command Prompt:
- Open Start.
- Search for Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to complete.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows and test Nero.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. If both commands complete successfully but Nero still reports the missing file, reinstall Nero rather than repeating the commands.
If manually checking Windows components and repeating SFC/DISM leaves you unsure what changed, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for reported system problems; its free scan shows what it finds, while repair requires the full version. Reinstalling Nero remains the definitive fix when its application DLL is missing.
Fix 7: Check drivers only if the error names a driver
Time needed: 10–30 minutes
unerofsstandalone.dll is not a driver. Do not use Device Manager as the primary repair for this file. Check drivers only if the popup also identifies a disc-drive, storage, chipset, or other device problem.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand DVD/CD-ROM drives, Storage controllers, or the category named in the error.
- Right-click the affected device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
For a device that stopped working after an update, open Properties > Driver and review Roll Back Driver, if available. Use the computer or hardware manufacturer’s official support page for drivers when Windows cannot find one.
If manually identifying stale drivers across several device categories is the problem, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and show reported driver issues; the free scan identifies problems, while driver installation requires the full version. It is not a substitute for reinstalling the Nero product that owns this DLL.
Fix 8: Remove a leftover Nero startup reference
Time needed: 5–15 minutes
If Nero was uninstalled but the popup appears only during sign-in, an old startup shortcut or task may still point to the removed file.

- Right-click a clearly obsolete Nero entry and select Disable.
- Restart Windows.
Also check Settings > Apps > Startup for the same entry. Do not delete an entry merely because its name looks unfamiliar. Confirm its path first.
Disabling the leftover reference removes the startup popup, but it does not repair Nero. Reinstall Nero if you still use the application.

What not to do
- Do not copy the DLL into
C:WindowsSystem32. - Do not copy it into
C:WindowsSysWOW64simply because Windows is 64-bit. - Do not use
regsvr32as a generic repair command. It is intended for DLLs that provide registration entry points such asDllRegisterServer; there is no verified reason to register this Nero helper DLL. - Do not select the newest cataloged DLL version without matching it to the installed Nero product.
- Do not disable antivirus protection permanently.
- Do not use a DLL download sites utility or an unverified loose-file replacement.
Windows normally searches the application directory before system directories for an unpackaged application. That is why the correct copy generally belongs in the Nero product folder.
FAQ
Is unerofsstandalone.dll a Windows file?
No. Available evidence places it with Nero application files, not with Windows system components.
Is it part of Visual C++, DirectX, .NET, or a driver?
There is no verified evidence that it belongs to those products. Nero is the identified software association. A separate runtime may still be a dependency if the error names a Microsoft runtime DLL.
Should I download unerofsstandalone.dll separately?
No. A loose download may contain malware, the wrong version, or the wrong architecture, and it does not repair the Nero installation that should provide the file. Use Nero’s official repair or installer.
Does a 64-bit Windows PC need a 64-bit copy?
Not necessarily. Publicly cataloged copies are 32-bit, and 64-bit Windows commonly runs 32-bit Nero software.
Why does Windows say “specified module could not be found” when the file exists?
The named DLL may depend on another missing or incompatible DLL. Check the full popup for Visual C++ runtime names, then repair the relevant runtime or reinstall Nero.
Why does the popup appear only at startup?
An old Nero startup task or shortcut may remain after an incomplete uninstall. Confirm its path and disable the obsolete entry.
What if Nero repair and reinstall both fail?
Check antivirus quarantine, confirm that the installer matches the Nero product, and use Nero’s clean-removal procedure only after backing up activation details and personal data. If unrelated applications also fail, run Windows Update, DISM, and SFC.
