usbaaplrc.dll is missing, was not found, or could not be loaded. The file belongs to Apple Mobile Device Support, so the safest fix is to repair the Apple software and USB driver package that installed it, not download a replacement DLL.
Windows may display one of these reported loader messages:

- “The program can’t start because usbaaplrc.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “There was a problem starting usbaaplrc.dll.”
- “Error loading usbaaplrc.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because usbaaplrc.dll was not found.”
- “usbaaplrc.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
Which fix applies to you
Use the symptom that matches your situation:
- The error appears when starting iTunes, Apple Devices, or an iPhone utility: repair or reinstall Apple Devices or iTunes first.
- Your iPhone, iPad, or iPod is not detected: check Apple Mobile Device USB Driver in Device Manager, then restart Apple Mobile Device Service.
- The file exists but Windows reports an invalid image or bad image: check whether the Apple installation is damaged or mismatched between 32-bit and 64-bit components.
- The file disappeared after antivirus activity: inspect Windows Security Protection history before restoring anything.
- Several unrelated Windows programs also report missing or corrupt files: repair Windows with DISM and SFC.
- The problem began after a driver, Apple software, or Windows change: consider System Restore.
- The error occurs only in an old third-party Apple-device utility: update or reinstall that utility rather than copying a DLL beside its executable.
What usbaaplrc.dll is
usbaaplrc.dll is Apple’s Apple Mobile Device USB Driver Resource DLL. It is part of the Apple USB driver stack used to communicate with iPhones, iPads, and iPods through Windows.
A resource DLL contains supporting data used by another program or driver component. It may hold strings, configuration resources, icons, or other information rather than providing the main device-driver code itself. That is why the file appears alongside files such as usbaapl.inf, usbaapl64.inf, .sys, and .cat driver files.

This is not a Windows system DLL. It normally arrives through Apple Mobile Device Support, historically bundled with Windows iTunes. Current Windows users may instead use the Apple Devices app, while iTunes remains available for compatible setups.
Typical historical locations include:
C:Program FilesCommon FilesAppleMobile Device SupportDrivers
and:
C:Program Files (x86)Common FilesAppleMobile Device SupportDrivers
These paths can vary between Apple installers, Microsoft Store installations, and older systems. Do not treat the location alone as proof that a file is genuine.
Public records include a 32-bit usbaaplrc.dll listed as version 1.45.0.0 with a size of approximately 1.97 MB. Other historical records show different builds, so there is no authoritative current Apple version and size to use as a download target.
Fix 1: Repair or reinstall Apple Devices or iTunes
This is the most likely fix because a missing resource DLL usually indicates an incomplete, damaged, or mismatched Apple Mobile Device Support installation.
If Apple Devices is installed
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps, then Installed apps.
- Find Apple Devices.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Advanced options.
- Select Repair and wait for Windows to finish.
- Restart Windows.
- Reconnect the Apple device with a known-good USB cable.
If Repair does not restore the driver, return to the same screen and choose Reset, if available. Resetting may remove the app’s local data.
If you use iTunes
- Close iTunes and disconnect the Apple device.
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Select iTunes and choose Uninstall.
- Also remove Apple Mobile Device Support if Windows lists it separately.
- Restart Windows.
- Install iTunes again from Apple’s official download source, or use the Microsoft Store version if that is the edition appropriate for your setup.
- Restart Windows again.
- Reconnect the device and open iTunes.
Do not install both the Microsoft Store and standalone editions while troubleshooting unless you are deliberately replacing one with the other. Multiple Apple installations can leave mismatched support files and services.
The repair worked if the original application opens without the loader message and the Apple device appears in the application or in File Explorer. If the application opens but the device remains invisible, continue with the driver and service checks below.

Fix 2: Reinstall or update the Apple USB driver
A missing usbaaplrc.dll message can accompany an absent Apple USB driver, even when some Apple software is still installed.
- Connect the iPhone, iPad, or iPod.
- Press Win+X and select Device Manager.
- Expand Portable Devices, Universal Serial Bus devices, and Universal Serial Bus controllers.
- Look for the Apple device or Apple Mobile Device USB Driver.
- Right-click it and select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- If Windows does not find a driver, select Browse my computer for drivers.
- Browse to the Apple Mobile Device Support
Driversfolder, if it exists. - Enable Include subfolders, then select Next.
- Restart Windows after the installation completes.
If the device has a warning icon, right-click it, choose Uninstall device, disconnect the Apple device, restart Windows, and reinstall or repair Apple Devices or iTunes before reconnecting it.
A 32-bit usbaaplrc.dll can appear beside a 64-bit Apple USB driver. That is not automatically an error. Windows processes cannot load a DLL built for the opposite architecture, but a driver package can contain components with different roles and architectures. Do not replace every file with either 32-bit or 64-bit copies based only on the name.
Manually comparing driver versions across several Apple packages is tedious, especially when Windows has retained older entries. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for stale or mismatched drivers; its free scan shows what it found, while driver installation is handled by the full version. It is optional, and the official Apple installer remains the correct source for Apple Mobile Device Support.

If the driver folder is absent, reinstall Apple software before attempting any advanced extraction.
Fix 3: Restart Apple Mobile Device Service
The service can prevent Apple software from communicating with a correctly installed driver.
- Disconnect the Apple device.
- Close iTunes and Apple Devices.
- Press Win+R.
- Type:
text
services.msc
- Press Enter.
- Find Apple Mobile Device Service.
- Double-click it.
- Set Startup type to Automatic.
- Select Stop.
- Wait briefly, then select Start.
- Choose Apply, then OK.
- Restart Windows.
- Reconnect the Apple device and open the Apple software.
If the service is missing, reinstall Apple Devices or iTunes. A service repair cannot recreate an Apple support package that was never installed.
Fix 4: Check antivirus quarantine
Security software may quarantine a driver resource file after an update or installation.

- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent entries for Apple Mobile Device Support or
usbaaplrc.dll. - Do not restore the file automatically.
- Restore it only if it came from a current official Apple installation and its location and digital signature are credible.
- Restart Windows after making the change.
- Repair Apple Devices or iTunes if the file was removed.
If Windows Security identifies the file as malicious, leave it quarantined and run a full scan. Restoring a genuinely malicious file can reintroduce a threat.
Fix 5: Verify the file and its signature
If usbaaplrc.dll is present, inspect it before replacing anything.
- Browse to the Apple Mobile Device Support
Driversfolder. - Right-click
usbaaplrc.dll. - Select Properties.
- Open the Digital Signatures tab.
- Select the signature and choose Details.
- Confirm that Windows reports the signature as valid and identifies Apple as the signer.
- Open the General and Details tabs to check the file description and location.
A valid signature does not guarantee that every installation component is healthy, but an unsigned file in a temporary, download, or unrelated game folder is not a trustworthy replacement.
Do not copy the file to C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64. Do not download a replacement from a random DLL archive. Such files can contain malware, belong to the wrong Apple build, use the wrong architecture, or fail because the actual missing item is a dependency or driver package.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFix 6: Extract the official Apple driver package only as a last resort
If the official iTunes installer completes but the Apple driver folder remains incomplete, an advanced recovery may extract the Apple Mobile Device Support MSI from the official installer.
Community reports identify a package named AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi and files such as:
usbaapl64.cat
usbaapl64.inf
usbaapl64.sys
usbaaplrc.dll
The exact package and contents vary by installer. This is an unofficial workaround, not a documented general Apple repair procedure.

Fix 7: Repair broader Windows corruption with DISM and SFC
usbaaplrc.dll is not a Windows component, so SFC will not normally reinstall it. These commands are appropriate when other Windows files also report bad-image or missing-file errors.
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click it and select Run as administrator.
- Run:
text
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to complete.
- Then run:
text
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
DISM repairs the Windows component store. SFC checks protected Windows files against that store. Neither command is a substitute for reinstalling Apple Mobile Device Support.
Repeating SFC and DISM without knowing which component changed can make diagnosis slow. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for broader Windows problems; its free scan identifies issues, while repair is handled by the full version. It is optional, and Apple software still needs to be reinstalled when the missing component is usbaaplrc.dll.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix 8: Use System Restore after a recent change
Use System Restore if the error began immediately after a driver update, Apple installation, or Windows change.
- Press Win+R.
- Type:
text
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point dated before the error began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Confirm the restore point.
- Select Finish and allow Windows to restart.
System Restore rolls back system files, settings, drivers, and installed programs. It does not normally remove personal documents, but reinstalling Apple software afterward may still be necessary.
Why regsvr32 usually does not help
Do not run:
regsvr32 usbaaplrc.dll
as a routine fix. regsvr32 is for DLLs that expose the DllRegisterServer entry point, typically COM or ActiveX components. There is no reliable evidence that this Apple driver resource DLL is a self-registering component.

Windows Features are not the solution

FAQ
Is usbaaplrc.dll a Windows file?
No. It is an Apple Mobile Device USB Driver Resource DLL used by Apple’s Windows device-support stack.
Should I download usbaaplrc.dll by itself?
No. Reinstall the Apple software that supplied it. A standalone download can be malicious, mismatched, unsigned, or unable to fix the missing driver package.
Can I put it in System32?
No. Keep Apple driver files in the installation directory created by Apple’s software. Copying the DLL into a Windows system directory can create further version and architecture conflicts.
Why does a 32-bit DLL appear with a 64-bit driver?
Different components can serve different processes and driver layers. A 32-bit process cannot load a 64-bit DLL, and a 64-bit process cannot load a 32-bit DLL, but that does not mean every file in a driver package must share one bitness.
Why does Windows say “the specified module could not be found” when the file exists?
The named DLL may depend on another missing or damaged module. Check the Apple installation, driver folder, architecture, signature, and antivirus history rather than replacing only the named file.
What if the file is fixed but the iPhone is still not recognized?
Treat that as a separate device-recognition problem. Check Device Manager, restart Apple Mobile Device Service, try another USB port and cable, and repair Apple Devices or iTunes again.
What should I check before escalating?
Record the exact executable showing the error, whether Apple Devices or iTunes is installed, the Windows architecture, the file’s full path, its digital-signature status, the Device Manager status, and any recent antivirus, driver, or Windows change.
