You may see “The program can’t start because akrip32.dll is missing from your computer,” “The code execution cannot proceed because akrip32.dll was not found,” or “There was a problem starting akrip32.dll.”
akrip32.dll is the 32-bit AKRip CD-DA Audio Extraction Library, an old application component used by some CD-ripping and audio programs.
The 60-second answer
Do not copy akrip32.dll into C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64, and do not start with regsvr32.

The safest repair is:
- Identify the program showing the error.
- Repair or reinstall that program using its original installer or official vendor recovery option.
- Check Windows Security Protection history in case antivirus quarantined the file.
- If the installer is unavailable, obtain the matching library from the official AKRip project archive and place it in the affected application’s own folder.
- If the error remains, investigate a missing dependency, old ASPI or CD-drive support, or application incompatibility.
AKRip was released as an LGPL audio-extraction library layered over ASPI. Its official project archive contains several historical releases, including version 1.0rc2, so a file from a different application or release may not work.

What causes the error
akrip32.dll is not a protected Windows DLL and is not supplied by Windows, Visual C++ Redistributable, DirectX or .NET. It normally belongs beside the executable that uses it.

Historical programs associated with the file include BestPractice, Free MP3 CD Ripper and some Audials or RapidSolution products. These applications may require different builds, so the fact that a copy works with one program does not prove that it belongs with another.
Common causes include:
- An incomplete installation left the DLL out.
- A cleanup utility or uninstall removed the file.
- Antivirus quarantined the file.
- The application has the wrong 32-bit DLL version.
akrip32.dllexists, but one of its dependencies is missing.- An old ASPI or optical-drive component is unavailable.
- The program no longer works correctly with the current Windows release.
Fix 1: Repair or reinstall the parent application
This is the most likely solution because the application’s installer should provide the correct library and any related files.
If the program has a Repair option
- Press Windows key + I to open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Find the CD-ripping, audio-capture or music-management program named in the error.
- Select the three-dot menu, then choose Advanced options if available.
- Select Repair.
- Start the application again.
If there is no Repair option, open the program’s own installer and look for Repair, Modify or Maintenance.

- Back up any profiles, presets or recordings belonging to the application.
- In Settings > Apps > Installed apps, select the program and choose Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
- Run the original installer as administrator. Right-click the installer and select Run as administrator.
- Start the program from its normal shortcut.
A successful repair usually means the program opens without the loader message. Confirm that it can still detect the CD/DVD drive before attempting a disc extraction.
If the application is old, avoid uninstalling it until you know where its installer and user data are stored. An obsolete program may not be available again from its original vendor.
Fix 2: Check whether antivirus removed the DLL
Windows Security may quarantine an old DLL even when the original application is legitimate. Do not restore a file merely because its name matches the error.

- Open Start and search for Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent detections for the application folder or
akrip32.dll. - Open a detection to inspect its path and details.
- Restore or allow the file only if you can verify that it came from the application’s legitimate installer or the official AKRip project archive.
- Reinstall or repair the parent application afterward if necessary.
Microsoft warns that restoring a genuinely harmful file can put the device at risk. If antivirus removes the file again immediately, stop launching the program and contact the application vendor or replace the obsolete software. Do not weaken protection just to make an old audio application start.

Use this fallback only when you have identified the parent program and its original installer is unavailable.
The official AKRip project archive lists historical binary releases and separate source packages. Choose the release that matches the application’s documentation or the copy that previously worked with it. Do not assume the newest archive is correct for every program.
Place the file in the application directory, usually the folder containing the program’s main .exe file. For instance:
C:Program FilesExampleAudioAppakrip32.dll
Do not place it in a Windows directory. Do not rename another file to akrip32.dll, and do not substitute akrip.dll or a DLL taken from another product.

To verify the location:
- Right-click the application shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Shortcut tab.
- Select Open File Location.
- Check whether
akrip32.dllis beside the application executable. - Right-click the DLL, select Properties, and review the Details tab.
- Compare its product name, file version and description with the application’s expected release where that information is available.
A commonly catalogued AKRip build is identified as PE32, meaning 32-bit Intel-compatible code, but historical builds differ. Treat the version shown in a file-information record as information about that particular copy, not proof that every akrip32.dll has the same metadata.

Fix 4: Check for a missing dependency
The message “specified module could not be found” does not always mean that akrip32.dll itself is absent. Windows may have found the file but failed to load a DLL that it depends on.
First, confirm that the file exists in the application folder. Then:
- Open the application’s installation folder.
- Look for other DLLs or support files installed at the same time.
- Run the application’s Repair option again.
- Check whether the installer offers an option for CD, ASPI or drive support.
- Confirm that the optical drive appears in File Explorer and Device Manager.
- If another dependency is named in the error, repair that dependency rather than replacing
akrip32.dll.
Do not download individual dependency files from untrusted DLL sites. A missing dependency may be an old application component, an ASPI layer or a drive-access problem. Reinstalling the complete application is safer than assembling a set of unrelated DLLs.

akrip32.dll is an old 32-bit application library. A 32-bit program can run on 64-bit Windows, but it still needs the correct 32-bit dependencies in its application directory.
To check the application:
- Open the program’s installation folder.
- Right-click its main executable.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Compatibility tab.
- Select Run this program in compatibility mode for.
- Choose an older Windows version only if the program’s documentation identifies one.
- Select Apply, then OK.
- Test the application.
Compatibility mode cannot convert an incompatible driver or replace a missing ASPI component. It only changes selected Windows behaviors for the application.
Check the drive separately:
- Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
- Expand DVD/CD-ROM drives.
- Confirm that the optical drive appears without a warning icon.
- If it has a warning icon, right-click it and select Properties.
- Read the status under the General tab.
- Select Update driver, then Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows and test the application.
If the drive is missing entirely, check its cabling, firmware and manufacturer support before changing legacy software files. If the application depends on ASPI, its historical documentation may describe a required configuration. Install only components from the application or hardware vendor.

Manually hunting through Device Manager for outdated drivers can involve checking many unrelated devices and comparing versions one by one. Outbyte Driver Updater provides a free scan that shows what it identifies; driver installation and repair are handled by the full version. It is optional, and repairing the application remains the definitive fix when akrip32.dll belongs to that program.
Fix 6: Run DISM and SFC only for broader Windows corruption
SFC and DISM repair protected Windows components and the Windows component store. They do not normally restore a third-party application DLL such as akrip32.dll, so use them after repairing the parent program, not instead of it.
- Open Start and search for Command Prompt.
- Right-click it and select Run as administrator.
- Run this command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test the affected application.
If SFC reports that it repaired files but the application still gives the same error, that result does not prove that akrip32.dll was restored. Return to the application installer and dependency checks.
Repeating DISM and SFC without knowing which Windows component changed makes troubleshooting harder. Fix 7: Use System Restore only after a recent system change
System Restore can help if the error began immediately after a driver, cleanup utility or software installation. It is not a replacement for reinstalling the parent application.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
rstrui.exeand press Enter. - Select Next.
- Choose a restore point dated before the error began.
- Select Scan for affected programs.
- Review the applications and drivers that may be removed or reverted.
- Select Close, then Next.
- Select Finish and confirm.
Save open work first. System Restore can revert applications, settings and system state. If there is no suitable restore point, cancel and use application repair instead.
Why regsvr32 usually does not help
regsvr32 is used for DLLs that expose registration functions such as DllRegisterServer, commonly COM or ActiveX components. AKRip32 is an application library loaded by its host program, not a DLL verified as requiring COM registration.
Do not run:
regsvr32 akrip32.dll
It will not normally restore a missing dependency and may return an error saying that DllRegisterServer was not found. Application-local loading does not require registry registration.

Avoid random DLL downloads
A random copy can contain malware, belong to a different historical release, use the wrong architecture or still fail because another dependency is missing. It can also leave an unsafe DLL in a global search location.
Use, in order:
- The affected application’s original installer.
- The application vendor’s official recovery or download channel.
- The official AKRip project archive when the parent application and required release are known.
Keep the DLL beside the application that needs it. Do not place it in System32 or SysWOW64 by default.
FAQ
Is akrip32.dll part of Windows?
No. It is a third-party 32-bit AKRip library used by older audio applications.
Can Visual C++ Redistributable fix it?
There is no evidence that a Microsoft runtime package specifically installs akrip32.dll. Install a runtime only when the application documentation or a separate error identifies that runtime as required.
Should I copy it to System32?
No. The normal location is the folder containing the application that loads it. Global copying can cause version conflicts and does not repair the parent program.

Windows may be unable to load a dependency of akrip32.dll, or the file may be the wrong release or architecture. Old ASPI and optical-drive support can also be involved.
What if the application is no longer compatible?
Try the vendor’s final compatible release and the application’s documented compatibility settings. If the program still cannot access the drive, replace it with maintained software rather than weakening Windows security or installing unrelated legacy DLLs.
