A $1,400 PS5 Pro listing at GameStop is a reported price for a pre-owned or refurbished console—not Sony’s new-console MSRP, a completed sale, or a universal used-market price. Two outlets checking listings on October 6, 2026, recorded different GameStop prices: $1,329 and $1,399.99. Both are dated snapshots, and listings can change.
Why is a used PS5 Pro listed for about $1,400?
The figure comes from retailer listings observed during a period of reported scarcity. Tom’s Guide said GameStop showed pre-owned and refurbished PS5 Pro consoles at $1,329 on October 6, 2026, describing that as nearly $500 above the console’s $900 MSRP. Tom’s Hardware reported the same day that GameStop’s refurbished price had risen from $800 to $1,399.99. The two captures differ by $70.99; neither report establishes one price as definitive. Tom’s Guide and Tom’s Hardware both reported their observations on October 6, 2026.

Scarcity was reported as market context, but the available reports do not prove what caused the price increases. They also do not establish how many consoles were available or whether buyers paid the listed amounts. Treat these figures as asking prices, not evidence of completed sales or a forecast of what the console will cost later.
What did the October 6 listings show?
| Listing observation | Reported price | What the figure represents |
|---|---|---|
| GameStop, per Tom’s Guide | $1,329 | Pre-owned/refurbished listing observed October 6, 2026; asking price. |
| GameStop, per Tom’s Hardware | $1,399.99 | Refurbished listing observed October 6, 2026; the report said the price had increased from $800. |
| Third-party sellers, per Tom’s Guide | Up to $1,700 | Some listings on Amazon, Best Buy, Newegg, and Walmart reached this level; the report did not say every seller or listing had the same price or condition. |
| eBay example, per Tom’s Guide | $1,049 | Asking price for a console-and-controller listing, not a confirmed sale. |
| eBay example, per Tom’s Guide | $1,387 | Asking price for a bundle with eight games, a media remote, and charging stations, not a confirmed sale. |
The third-party and eBay prices above are the examples Tom’s Guide reported from its October 6, 2026 check, not guaranteed current prices. A bundle’s higher asking price does not automatically make it better value: compare the items included with what you would otherwise buy.

Is GameStop really selling used PS5 Pros for more than new?
The reports say GameStop listings for pre-owned or refurbished consoles were above the $900 MSRP cited by Tom’s Guide. That does not mean GameStop’s price is Sony’s new-console price, or that a used unit is worth more to every buyer. The condition, included accessories, seller, return terms, and whether the listing is still available all matter.
Check condition and seller before comparing prices
- Separate new stock from pre-owned, refurbished, and open-box listings. Tom’s Guide said all the high-price listings it checked were used, refurbished, or open-box.
- Confirm whether the retailer itself is selling the console or whether a marketplace seller is responsible for the listing.
- Compare the total price and bundle contents. A controller or accessory you need may add value; games or add-ons you will not use may not.
- Read the specific seller’s return window and warranty terms rather than assuming all listings offer the same protection.
GameStop says its pre-owned units are guaranteed to work, may arrive without the original box or manual, and may not match the condition shown in the product image. Its product information lists a seven-day money-back guarantee and says most purchases can be returned within 30 days. Check GameStop’s PS5 Pro product page for current terms before buying; retailer policies can change.
Where can you look for a PS5 Pro for less?
Compare current new, pre-owned, refurbished, and open-box listings across retailers and marketplaces, but do not treat any October 6 example as a price guarantee. Check whether the displayed amount is for the console alone or a bundle, who fulfills the order, and what return protections apply. The reported eBay examples of $1,049 for a console with controller and $1,387 for a bundle with eight games, a media remote, and charging stations were listings—not stated sale prices.
If prices are beyond your budget, waiting is also an option, but these reports do not establish when supply might improve or prices might fall. There is no evidence here to support a specific recovery date or future price target.

Decide whether PS5 Pro enhancements matter for your games
Sony lists PSSR upscaling, ray tracing, higher frame rates, a 2 TB SSD, Wi-Fi 7 compatibility, Game Boost, and support for more than 8,500 PS4 games on its official U.S. PS5 Pro page. Sony qualifies the enhancements: “Feature only available on select PS5 games that have been enhanced for PS5 Pro when compared with PS5. PS5 Pro enhanced features will vary by game.” A compatible router is required to benefit from Wi-Fi 7. If you already own a PS5, check whether the games you play support Pro enhancements and whether those improvements fit your priorities and display.
Sony’s page quotes Naughty Dog lead programmer Vincent Marxen describing a PS5 Pro-specific mode for The Last of Us Part II Remastered: it renders at 1440p, then uses PSSR to upscale to 4K while targeting 60 fps. That is a developer description of one game’s mode, not a guarantee of the same performance in other titles.
Account for the separate disc drive
The PS5 Pro is digital-only by default. GameStop says it is compatible with the detachable disc drive sold separately for PS5 Slim. Add that optional drive to your cost comparison only if you want to play physical games or watch disc movies; it is not included as a built-in feature.
