Before paying for a used PS5 Pro, verify that the console boots, displays a stable image, connects to PlayStation services, has an intact serial number, and includes the items the seller claims. Whenever possible, test it in person and compare the complete offer—including return protection and any missing accessories—with new or certified-refurbished options.
Start with the seller and the evidence they can provide
Check the seller’s feedback and reputation, then ask for a recent video of the specific console. Sony’s used PlayStation buying guidance recommends seeing the system power on, checking ports and buttons, testing the internet connection, and checking a disc drive when one is applicable. The PS5 Pro has no built-in disc drive, so a drive test applies only if the seller has one attached.
A video is an initial screen, not proof of the console’s full condition or history. Prefer an in-person inspection before payment, and check that the video shows the same unit you are being offered.
Inspect the console and test it running
- Look over the casing and ports for cracks, impact damage, corrosion, or signs of tampering.
- Connect it to a display and confirm that it produces a stable image and sound.
- Test the power and eject buttons, available ports, and the included controller.
- Connect to the internet and confirm the console can reach PlayStation services.
- Run a game long enough to notice abnormal fan noise, unexpected shutdowns, or signs of overheating.
Sony’s buying guidance recommends rechecking the seller’s video in person and looking for damage, image problems, and overheating. These checks can reveal obvious faults, but a short test cannot guarantee the console will remain reliable.

Read the model and serial information from the console’s own label and compare it with the seller’s documentation. Check the exact model against Sony’s manuals and model documentation; model codes vary by region, so do not identify a unit by appearance alone. Sony’s manuals index includes PS5 Pro variants such as CFI-7019 and CFI-7119.
Do not buy a console with a removed, obscured, or apparently altered serial number. Sony warns that lost or stolen PlayStation products may be permanently suspended from PlayStation services, and its warranty terms list altered, defaced, or removed serial numbers among warranty exclusions.

Ask the seller to deactivate the console from their account and demonstrate that it can connect to PlayStation services. Sony recommends confirming that the seller has deactivated it and no longer has access. A successful connection lowers the risk of an account-access problem, but it does not establish the unit’s complete ownership history.
Confirm what comes with the PS5 Pro
Sony’s U.S. product listing describes the standard PS5 Pro package as an all-digital, 2 TB console with a DualSense controller, horizontal feet, HDMI cable, AC power cord, user manual, and pre-installed ASTRO’S PLAYROOM. The console has no built-in disc drive; the drive and vertical stand are sold separately. Check the seller’s actual listing and regional package, since contents can differ.

Ask the seller to lay out every included item and show it working where relevant. Price missing items into your comparison rather than assuming they are included.

Check accessory compatibility before paying extra
Sony’s PS5 Pro compatibility guidance lists the PS5 Pro vertical stand and disc drive with cover as compatible. It says covers for PS5 CFI-1000 and CFI-2000 model groups, and the base for the earlier PS5 console, are not compatible with the Pro. If a seller is bundling accessories, verify the exact item rather than relying on a generic “PS5 compatible” description.

An M.2 SSD is not required to inspect the console or use it for the first time. If a seller includes one, Sony’s M.2 SSD requirements specify PCIe Gen4x4 NVMe, Key M, a capacity of 250 GB to 8 TB, supported physical dimensions, effective heat dissipation, and a recommended sequential read speed of at least 5,500 MB/s. Sony cautions that meeting the listed specifications does not guarantee every drive will work.

Request the original purchase receipt and ask what written return terms apply to this sale. In the United States and Canada, Sony’s limited warranty is written for the original purchaser, runs for one year from the original purchase, and requires proof of purchase for warranty service. Sony’s used-buying guidance also warns that third-party used PlayStation products may not be covered. Do not assume a warranty transfers to a second owner; confirm the rules with Sony for your region and the exact unit.

Compare the return window and buyer protection before handing over money. A low price is less useful if the seller offers no practical recourse for a fault discovered after the transaction.
Compare the complete offer, not only the asking price
There is no source-established current fair used price for the PS5 Pro, so a price alone cannot show whether a particular listing is a bargain. Compare the offer against other used, certified-refurbished, and new options using the same criteria:
- Evidence that the console works and its physical condition.
- Seller reputation, return terms, and buyer protection.
- Intact serial number, deactivation, and access to PlayStation services.
- Purchase proof and warranty status for your region.
- Included controller, cables, feet, and any optional drive or stand.
- Total cost after replacing missing or incompatible items.
Use the same checklist for each option. A better-protected listing with verified contents may be preferable to a cheaper unit that cannot be tested or returned.
