Valve software engineer Jeremy Selan’s answer was the Steam Frame’s price: “Price. I wish we could have shipped it at the price that we were at last year.” Valve hardware engineer Joy Lyons said the company’s original price target shifted amid the worldwide RAM crisis, but the interview coverage does not reveal what that earlier target was.

What would Valve change about the Steam Frame?

Asked what he would change about the headset, Selan named its price. PC Gamer reported his answer in its interview-based coverage: “Price. I wish we could have shipped it at the price that we were at last year.” The remark expresses a wish about the price Valve had previously targeted; it does not establish what the Steam Frame will cost or what its earlier target was. PC Gamer’s report

Why did Valve want the Steam Frame to be cheaper?

Lyons said Valve designed the hardware with a particular price in mind, but that target shifted because of the ongoing RAM crisis around the world. Neither the exact former target nor a specific revised price is stated in the cited report, so there is no reliable figure to compare or quote.

The price answer sits alongside the device’s broader reported aims: comfortable wireless PC VR and easier access to VR. Launch-era coverage describes the Steam Frame as supporting both standalone play and streaming from a PC; those are reported goals and capabilities, not independent test results.
