Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2, the sequel to 2004’s Bloodlines, launched on October 21, 2025, for PC and consoles. Its central story twist is that players experience the narrative not only through Elder vampire Phyre in modern Seattle, but also through Fabien, a Malkavian detective investigating his own murder in a neo-noir version of 1920s Seattle.
What is the major twist in Bloodlines 2?
Fabien is more than a voice in Phyre’s mind: he is an additional playable narrative perspective. The reveal came from co-publishers Paradox Interactive and White Wolf and developer The Chinese Room at gamescom Opening Night Live on August 19, 2025, alongside the game’s release date. Paradox’s announcement describes the two storylines as distinct perspectives linked by Fabien’s presence in Phyre’s mind.

| Perspective | Setting | Story focus |
|---|---|---|
| Phyre | Modern-day Seattle | An Elder vampire wakes after centuries in torpor, finds their abilities locked away by a mysterious mark, and becomes entangled in the city’s Kindred power structure while seeking to regain those powers. |
| Fabien | Neo-noir 1920s Seattle | A Malkavian detective uses his clan abilities to investigate his own murder, with his fractured perception making it difficult to separate fact from fiction. |
The contrast gives the story two different jobs: Phyre’s chapters concern vampire politics and lost power, while Fabien’s turn toward detective fiction explores a murder investigation through an unstable point of view. The twist is this dual-perspective structure—not a confirmed surprise ending or an undisclosed plot revelation.

Who is Fabien, and how does he connect to Phyre?
Fabien is a Malkavian, a vampire of a clan associated in this story with a fractured perception of reality. In the modern Seattle storyline, his voice echoes in Phyre’s mind and guides them. His own chapters shift back to the 1920s, where he investigates his murder. That connection sets up a mystery across two periods without making the two characters’ stories interchangeable.
#1 Best Overall
At launch, Paradox described Fabien as a voice guiding Phyre and said his fractured perception can bring both insight and unease. Alex Skidmore, The Chinese Room’s project creative director, framed the city’s conflict this way: “Seattle is on the brink of an open supernatural war, and as Fabien warns, trouble comes in pairs.”
When did Bloodlines 2 come out, and where can you play it?
Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 launched October 21, 2025. The August 2025 announcement named Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5, and said physical editions would be available through select retailers. What is included in the base game and editions?
Six clans in the base game
Paradox’s September 17, 2025 game overview lists six playable clans in the base game: Brujah, Tremere, Banu Haqim, Ventrue, Toreador, and Lasombra. Earlier edition plans had positioned Toreador and Lasombra as Premium Edition add-ons; the later overview put both in the base game. White Wolf executive vice president and executive producer Marco Behrmann said the change followed community feedback: “Lasombra and Toreador belong in the base game, so that is what we are doing.”

The September overview describes a physical Day One Edition with the base game and a Bloodlines Nostalgia Jukebox bonus. It describes a physical Premium Edition with the base game, Expansion Pass, character cards, journal, and SteelBook case. Select retailers were also to offer a physical cross necklace. These are announced contents, not confirmation that a particular retailer currently has an edition in stock or that every region received the same SKU.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How did the game reach its final release?
The October 21, 2025 launch followed several public changes. On August 20, 2024, Paradox and The Chinese Room moved the then-planned release window to the first half of 2025, citing more time for polish, quality assurance, community feedback, and story expansion. That was an interim window, not the final date. In the same update, the companies said the game would have “more than twice as many endings as its predecessor”; this was a development claim, not an independently verified ending count. Their update contains the original context.
On May 23, 2025, World of Darkness announced a rebrand to White Wolf, describing White Wolf as the official licensing and publishing entity for its transmedia properties. The Fabien reveal and final October release date followed in August, with the six-clan base-game lineup and edition overview published in September.
