The RPG layer is built around rewards and build choices. Loot can feed crafting, perks alter character abilities, and artifacts provide passive powers. Those systems give the group reasons to decide how much danger is worth taking before extraction. A safer run can secure progress; a deeper push can offer better rewards while exposing the team to more threats. The official description establishes those systems, but it does not establish final balance, endgame breadth or how frequently each mode will be available at launch.
What is in the Steam demo
The October 8, 2026 Steam announcement lists two playable Vaultbreakers in the demo: Nymera and Bjornir. It also includes an upgradable haven, perks, part of the first map (Wolfswood), quests through the first Vaultbreak and co-op with up to two friends. Therefore, the announced demo group is three players total, not four.
The demo is useful for answering questions that a store description cannot settle: whether your group enjoys the top-down perspective, whether the extraction tension is appealing and whether the characters’ abilities create interesting teamwork. It is not evidence that the eventual game will contain the same amount of content, the same player limit or the same progression balance. Treat the demo as a sample of an unfinished project.

BetaDwarf’s official site says, “We aim to release Vaultbreakers in 2027.” The wording matters. It communicates a development goal, not a guaranteed date, and no final launch day is established here. The site says the team is focusing on PC and consoles and currently plans a premium launch, while also stating that this plan could change.

That uncertainty affects a co-op purchase decision. A group that needs a game for a scheduled campaign, a regular weekly night or a fixed four-person roster should not treat the 2027 target as a delivery promise. A group happy to play a demo, provide feedback and revisit the game as development progresses has a better fit.
What Deep Rock Galactic offers

Deep Rock Galactic’s Steam listing identifies it as a one-to-four-player co-op FPS and gives its release date as May 13, 2020. For a group of four, that stated capacity is the decisive difference from the Vaultbreakers demo announcement, which supports three players total.

The game is listed for purchase on Steam, Windows Store and Xbox in the official FAQ. Those platform listings establish where it can be bought, but the reviewed material does not establish current cross-platform multiplayer compatibility. If members of your group use different platforms, check the current documentation for the exact editions before buying; do not assume that being listed on several platforms means every platform can join the same session.

- Your group wants a released game rather than a project with a target date.
- You have four players and want the cited listing to support the full group.
- You prefer first-person shooting, cave traversal and mining over a top-down RPG view.
- You want a clearly described PvE structure involving alien enemies instead of a fantasy extraction focus.
- Your group is planning regular sessions and cannot build plans around an unconfirmed 2027 launch.
