Village in the Shade separates free game updates from paid DLC: Patch 1.20 is the first free update and is available, while the publisher has announced a later free Patch 2 and paid DLC for future release. Some additions in the free patch still require in-game progression or purchases with in-game currency.
What is free and what costs extra?
The publisher says it plans to release both free updates and purchasable DLC. Patch 1.20 is explicitly identified as the first free update. Paid DLC is a separate release; it is not included in the meaning of “free update.” The publisher’s official announcements are the source for the content and release plans described here.
| Content | Price status | Status as of October 3, 2026 | What is described |
|---|---|---|---|
| Patch 1.20 | Free update | Available, according to the publisher’s September 28 announcement | Camping furniture, livestock, quality-of-life improvements and bug fixes |
| Patch 2 | Planned free update | Announced for October 27, 2026; that date was still in the future on October 3 | A protagonist birthday event and other new features |
| Paid DLC | Purchasable; price not stated by the publisher | Planned for Spring 2027; not yet released as of October 3 | Prospective new mechanics, scenarios, maps and events; detailed contents not finalized in the announcement |
The dates and future content above are publisher announcements, not confirmation that a planned release has happened. The official Steam listing identifies the game, but the available announcements do not establish platform-specific rollout details or installation steps.
What Patch 1.20 adds and how to access it
Patch 1.20’s additions are part of the free update, but two groups of content have their own in-game unlock conditions. Buying an item with in-game currency after meeting a requirement is not the same as paying for the patch.
