Download the driver from Wacom’s official Drivers page, but identify the exact Intuos4 model before choosing a package. Intuos4 tablets were sold in multiple PTK and PTH variants, and Wacom’s selector is model-driven. Enter the model number printed on the tablet or its original packaging, select that product, choose the Windows package shown for it, install the downloaded WacomTablet***.exe, restart Windows, and confirm the tablet appears in Wacom Center under Devices.
Wacom currently displays a Windows Driver 6.4.14-1 listing for Windows 10/11 x64 and Windows 11 ARM64, marked as updated 26 August 2026. That listing is not proof that one current build supports every Intuos4 variant, so do not skip the model-selection step.

Find the exact Intuos4 model before downloading anything
Wacom’s driver page does not treat “Intuos4” as one universal hardware entry. The product family includes several tablet sizes and PTK/PTH model numbers. The number on your device is the key to selecting the correct download.

- Turn the tablet over and read the label on the underside. The model identifier is normally printed near the serial information.
- Check the original box, invoice, or a photograph of the label if the tablet is already mounted on a desk.
- If Windows still detects the device, open Wacom Center and note the product name shown under Devices; use the physical label to confirm the exact variant before downloading.
Record the complete identifier, including every letter and number. A shortened name such as “Intuos4” is not enough to distinguish related PTK and PTH models.

Choose the Windows package that matches your system
Open Wacom’s official Drivers page and enter the model number in the product selector. Select the matching Intuos4 product, then read the Windows package details before downloading. The page may show more than one Windows architecture, so match the package to your installation.

The 6.4.14-1 entry is dated 26 August 2026 on Wacom’s page. Treat that date as the update date of the listing, not as a guarantee that every legacy Intuos4 PTK/PTH model is supported. Wacom does not publish one universal, current Intuos4 compatibility matrix in the public selector. If your exact model is not offered, do not substitute a package for a different tablet.

Check whether Windows is x64 or ARM64
- Press
Windows + Ito open Settings. - Select System, then About.
- Read System type. It will identify an x64-based system or an ARM64-based system, along with the Windows edition.
Use the architecture shown there, not the processor brand printed on a computer advertisement. Windows 11 ARM64 and Windows 10/11 x64 are separate package choices when Wacom offers both.
Prepare Windows for a first installation
A few checks prevent the most common setup mistakes and make a later clean reinstall easier.

- Write down the complete Intuos4 model number and your Windows architecture.
- Save any custom Wacom settings or export preferences if your current installation still opens. Wacom warns that uninstalling the driver removes configured preferences.
- Close drawing applications and any program that might be using the tablet.
- Keep the tablet disconnected until the installer asks for it or the installation has completed.
- Sign in with an account that can install desktop software. If Windows requests administrator approval, approve the prompt only after confirming that the installer came from Wacom’s Drivers page.
- Keep the downloaded installer in a known folder so you can identify the exact package if troubleshooting is needed.
Do not install a driver-disc copy simply because it came with the tablet. Intuos4 hardware is legacy equipment, and Wacom periodically updates drivers for compatibility. The current package offered for your exact model is the safer starting point than an unidentified old disc.
Install the Intuos4 driver for the first time

- Open the Drivers page. Enter the model number printed on the tablet or packaging and select the matching Intuos4 product.
- Choose the Windows download. Select the x64 or ARM64 package that matches Settings > System > About > System type. If the selected model has no package for your architecture, stop rather than choosing a different model.
- Wait for the download to finish. Locate the installer in your browser’s download folder. The file name follows Wacom’s
WacomTablet***.exepattern; the asterisks represent the package-specific characters. - Run the installer. Open the downloaded
WacomTablet***.exefile. If Windows displays a security prompt, verify that you intentionally downloaded the file from Wacom before continuing. - Accept the agreement. Read the license terms, accept them, and continue through the setup screens.
- Let setup finish. Do not unplug the computer or force-close the installer while driver files and services are being configured. The progress window may pause briefly while Windows registers the components.
- Restart Windows. Restart even if the installer does not appear to require it. Wacom’s documented sequence places the restart before the detection check.
- Connect the tablet after Windows returns. Use the tablet’s normal USB connection and give Windows a moment to initialize it.
- Confirm detection. Open Wacom Center and select Devices. Your Intuos4 should appear there. A device entry confirms that Windows can communicate with the tablet and that the Wacom software has loaded.
If the tablet appears in Devices, open a drawing application and test the pen, buttons, and express keys. Save a small test document before changing mappings so you have a simple way to confirm that pressure and controls continue to work after any adjustment.

Perform a clean reinstall when the tablet is missing
If Wacom Center does not list the tablet after the first restart, a clean reinstall removes remnants of the current installation and starts again with the package for the exact model. Wacom’s uninstall/reinstall guidance was published and updated 2 May 2023.

- Back up preferences first. Export or otherwise record custom button mappings, pen settings, and application-specific profiles. Wacom warns that uninstalling removes configured preferences.
- Disconnect the Intuos4. Unplug the tablet from USB before removing the driver.
- Remove the current Wacom driver. In Windows, open Settings > Apps > Installed apps (called Apps & features in some Windows 10 builds), find the Wacom tablet software, and choose Uninstall. Follow the removal prompts to completion.
- Restart Windows. This clears driver components that were loaded by the previous session.
- Check the model and architecture again. Read the label on the tablet and revisit Settings > System > About. A clean reinstall is wasted if the original model number or architecture was wrong.
- Download a fresh package from Wacom. Use the Drivers page selector for that exact Intuos4 model. Do not reuse an installer intended for another PTK or PTH variant.
- Run the new installer. Open its
WacomTablet***.exefile, accept the agreement, and allow setup to finish. - Restart again. Complete the second restart before evaluating detection.
- Reconnect and verify. Plug in the tablet, open Wacom Center, and check Devices.
If the device appears after this sequence, restore your backed-up preferences gradually. Test the tablet after each major change so a problematic profile can be identified instead of confusing it with a driver failure.

Wacom Center has no device entry after reinstall
- Confirm the USB cable is fully seated at the tablet and computer. If the computer has another known-good USB port, try it without using a hub or dock.
- Reconnect only after Windows has finished starting. Then wait briefly and reopen Wacom Center.
- Repeat the model-number check. The public page can show a current general Windows driver without proving that it supports every Intuos4 variant.
- Check Windows architecture again. An x64 installation and an ARM64 installation require different packages when both are offered.
- Run the complete clean-reinstall procedure rather than installing a second package over the first.
The installer will not start or stops partway through
- Confirm that the download completed and that you are opening the executable, not a browser shortcut or an incomplete temporary file.
- Close drawing software and other tablet utilities, then run the installer again.
- Restart Windows and retry before changing packages.
- If the same installer fails repeatedly, return to Wacom’s selector and verify that the selected product and architecture match the physical tablet and your Windows installation.
The tablet is listed, but pen pressure or buttons do not work
- Restart Windows once more after confirming that the device appears in Wacom Center.
- Test in a second drawing application. A single application can have its own tablet-input or pressure setting.
- Open the device settings in Wacom Center and check that the pen and express-key assignments were not lost during the reinstall.
- If settings disappeared, restore the saved preferences and test again.
Windows 11 ARM64 is involved
ARM64 deserves extra caution because the current Wacom page can display an ARM64 package while the public selector does not provide one universal Intuos4 compatibility statement. Select ARM64 only when Wacom offers it for your exact model. If no ARM64 package is shown for that model, the absence is a compatibility limitation to resolve with Wacom support, not a reason to install an x64 package at random.

What “legacy” means for Intuos4 support
The Intuos4 manual states, “Your Intuos will not work without the driver.” It also explains that Wacom periodically updates drivers for compatibility. That wording matters because the tablet can be physically functional while Windows lacks a suitable software layer.

Do not interpret a high driver version number as evidence that every older model is included. Wacom’s current public page shows version 6.4.14-1 and the 26 August 2026 update date, but it does not expose one complete matrix covering all PTK and PTH variants, Windows editions, and architectures. The reliable test is model selection followed by the post-restart Devices check in Wacom Center.
When to contact Wacom support
Escalate after you have completed the clean reinstall and can provide the exact model number, Windows edition, system architecture, driver version displayed on the download page, and the point at which detection fails. State whether the tablet appears in Wacom Center’s Devices view after the second restart. That information distinguishes a package-selection problem from a USB or hardware fault and avoids repeating the same installation steps.
