Waltz of the Wizard added controller-free hand tracking to its PS VR2 version on February 10, 2025. It was the first commercially available PS VR2 game to launch with the feature, but it is not the only PS VR2 title with hand tracking today.
What the PS VR2 hand-tracking update adds
Aldin Dynamics’ free update lets players interact with the game using their hands rather than Sense controllers for supported actions. Players can grab, touch and throw objects, and use gestures to communicate with Skully, the game’s companion. An in-game guidebook called Handbook explains the controls. Aldin announced the update on February 10, 2025, and UploadVR reported that it was free and available that day.
“Controller-free” describes the new hand-tracking interactions; it should not be taken to mean that every part of the game or every mode can be played without controllers. The PlayStation Store lists PS VR2 Sense controller features as optional, but does not establish that all gameplay is controller-free.
Was it really the first PS VR2 hand-tracking game?
At the update’s launch, Aldin called Waltz of the Wizard the first hand-tracking game on PS5 and PS VR2. UploadVR described it as the first commercially available PS VR2 game using hand tracking, while noting that Sony had not made a separate official announcement about the milestone. The most precise description is that Waltz of the Wizard was first to launch commercially with PS VR2 hand-tracking support.

That is a launch milestone, not a claim of lasting exclusivity. Sony later announced a hand-tracking update for Masters of Light on the PlayStation Blog.
What you need to play it on PS5
The PlayStation Store listing identifies the PS5 version and says a PlayStation VR2 headset is required to experience its VR features. The game is sold digitally through the PlayStation Store; the cited listing does not establish a physical Amazon version.

How to use hand tracking
The available sources describe the feature and its controls but do not provide a verified, step-by-step PS5 menu path for enabling it. Once in the game, use the Handbook for the supported gestures and interactions. Because the update adds hand tracking rather than removing every controller function, keep your Sense controllers available if an action or part of the game calls for them.

Aldin’s February 2025 announcement said hand-tracking features were already available on Meta Quest and that the Handbook would arrive there in a separate update “in the near future.” That was a statement about plans at the time, not confirmation of the guidebook’s current Quest availability.
