Warcraft III: Reforged is easiest to recommend to players who want its classic campaign and strategy gameplay; it is a more complicated choice for anyone expecting a flawless remaster or needing offline and LAN play. The September 2026 release of the two-part Forsaken Kingdom campaign and free 3.0 update adds new content, but an important practical distinction remains: the modern Reforged client and the legacy client do not have the same connectivity features.
What is included in Warcraft III: Reforged?
Blizzard describes Reforged as a re-creation of Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos and The Frozen Throne. Its launch announcement lists more than 60 single-player missions and four playable races. Those are Blizzard’s product figures, not an independent count. The core appeal is still the campaign and the real-time strategy design built around gathering resources, developing a base, and leading hero units and armies.
Blizzard’s announcement described the game as “the re-creation” of those two releases. That is a statement of the publisher’s intent, not a critical verdict on how completely the remaster met expectations. Blizzard’s launch announcement sets out the original product description.
What do the reviews say about Reforged?
Launch-era critics often praised the campaign, story, and underlying mechanics while criticizing technical problems, missing features, and the gap between the remaster Blizzard had promoted and the release reviewers received. The balance varied by outlet: Wccftech, for example, described the reconstruction as valuable but marred by bugs and design decisions; PC Games considered the campaign and mechanics durable while pointing to missing multiplayer features. These are examples from the launch-era review record, not a fresh assessment of the current client. Metacritic’s critic-review listings collect those reviews.

Player reactions are also divided. Metacritic user entries include a March 2026 account crediting patches and the return of a legacy client with improving the game’s value, alongside 2026 accounts that still report bugs or multiplayer problems. Individual posts are personal experiences, not a representative survey or independently verified test results. Metacritic’s user reviews show that range of opinion.
What changed in 2026?
In September 2026, Blizzard released Forsaken Kingdom, a two-part campaign, alongside a free 3.0 update. PC Gamer reported the expansion listed for $30 on Battle.net on September 12, 2026. That is a dated listing, not a guaranteed current price: regional pricing and availability can change. Check the Battle.net listing for the price and contents that apply to your account before buying. PC Gamer’s September 12, 2026 report covers the release.

- New Pointstreak system that rewards players both for landing kills and completing objectives
- Weapons proficiency system that allows you to customize your favorite weapons, making them more effiecent in any map or mode
- Online/offline 2-player co-op Special Ops Survival mode that earns you experience through 16 frantic objective-based missions
- New play modes, including: Kill Confirmed mode, Team Defender mode and user generated match modes
- Integration with 'Call of Duty: Elite,' an online multiplayer oriented service launched simultaneously with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
The new campaign gives returning players a reason to look again, but it does not erase the launch-era criticisms or establish that every technical issue has been resolved. The available review evidence does not provide a current, systematic bug assessment or performance test, so avoid treating either old reviews or isolated recent player reports as a definitive verdict on today’s stability.
Can you play Reforged offline or over LAN?
This depends on which client you use. According to PC Gamer’s September 2026 report, the modern Reforged client requires an internet connection even for single-player and no longer supports LAN play. The legacy Warcraft III client, included with purchase, retains offline play and LAN functionality. PC Gamer’s connectivity report describes the difference.

If offline access or local multiplayer is a deciding factor, do not assume that installing the modern client will provide those options. Confirm the current installation path and behavior for both clients before purchase; the two clients should not be treated as feature-identical.

Newcomers interested in the campaign
The campaign and foundational RTS design are the strongest reasons to try Reforged. Blizzard lists more than 60 single-player missions across the two original games, and Forsaken Kingdom adds a two-part campaign. Returning players comparing it with the original
Expect a modern Reforged client and a legacy client with different connectivity and LAN behavior, rather than one version that combines every option. The launch-era critical record remains useful for understanding the disappointment around missing features and technical problems, but it is not a current technical review. Choose based on the presentation and features you want, and verify which client gives you access to them.
Players who need offline play or LAN
The legacy client is the relevant option according to the September 2026 reporting. If you need offline access or LAN, verify that you can install and use that client before paying; the modern client’s reported internet requirement and lack of LAN support may rule it out for your setup.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIs Warcraft III: Reforged worth buying?
For a player primarily interested in the campaign, Reforged can still be worthwhile, especially with the new campaign available. For someone seeking a trouble-free, feature-complete remaster, the history of omissions and technical criticism warrants caution. For offline or LAN play, the client choice is decisive: the cited report assigns those features to the legacy client, not the modern Reforged one. Check Battle.net for current regional prices, edition contents, and installation options before purchasing; exact live pricing and current bug status are not established here.
