There is no proven universal preset: resolution, hardware, drivers, scene complexity and the current Early Access build all change the result. Start from a stable baseline, test in a repeatable combat scene, change one control at a time and keep the least expensive setting that still leaves combat information clear.
A high average FPS number is not enough. Check frame-time consistency, input response and whether you can identify targets at the distances you actually fight.

Start with a controlled baseline
Testing in a quiet menu or empty area can hide the conditions that cause a fight to feel sluggish. Use the same busy combat location, match type or practice route for every comparison. Include nearby cover, medium-range movement and a distant target if possible; those views expose different costs and visibility problems.
Record the conditions before changing anything
- Note your GPU, CPU, system memory, driver version, game build and display resolution.
- Record whether the game is rendering natively or using an upscaler, dynamic resolution or frame generation.
- Write down the current average FPS and whether frame-time graphs show spikes, hitching or a long tail of slow frames.
- Check target readability: can you separate a player silhouette from cover, and can you see useful detail at your normal engagement distance?
Use a one-change test
- Load the same combat scene and wait for it to settle.
- Change one graphics or display option.
- Repeat the same movement and camera sweep for long enough to include combat-level activity.
- Compare average FPS, frame-time behavior, image clarity and input response.
- Keep the change only if its benefit outweighs the visual or control cost, then test the next option.
This method avoids treating a community preset as a benchmark. WARDOGS Tools and WARDOGS Wiki both emphasize that hardware, resolution and build differences can overturn a setting recommendation.

Published performance targets and what they mean
WARDOGS Playbook transcribed targets from the Steam listing it read on 13 September 2026. They are official targets attached to hardware tiers, not controlled setting-by-setting tests or guarantees for every PC.
| Target | Resolution and quality | Upscaling | Published frame rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Entry target | 1080p Low | Required | 60 fps |
| Higher-resolution target | 1440p Medium | Native | 70 fps or more |
| 4K target | 4K Medium | Upscaled | 60 fps or more |
Use these figures as starting expectations for the matching hardware tier, not as a promise that selecting the same menu values will produce the same result. A result is meaningful only when it includes the resolution, driver, build, scene, hardware and upscaling or frame-generation state. If your frame rate is below a target, first establish whether your system and test conditions match the listing’s assumptions.
Which WARDOGS settings affect combat clarity and FPS?
Shadows
Shadows improve depth cues and help objects sit correctly in the scene, but they can be expensive to render. Lowering them may raise performance, especially in scenes with many lights or structures, yet an overly aggressive reduction can remove shading that helps you read cover and elevation.
Compare at least two shadow levels in the same fight. Look at a player crossing a lit area, the edge of nearby cover and objects in the middle distance. Keep the higher level when the extra depth helps you identify threats; lower it only when the frame-time gain is visible and the lost structure does not affect decisions. No attributable benchmark establishes one universally best shadow value.

Effects
Effects quality controls the detail and density of visual effects. Explosions, smoke, impacts and other battlefield events can be costly when many occur together. Lowering effects is a sensible test when FPS collapses during heavy action, but inspect whether muzzle flashes, impact locations and smoke boundaries remain legible. A setting that improves the number on a quiet run but hides an important combat cue is not an improvement for your use.
Textures
Higher texture quality retains more surface detail and can use more video memory. If your card is close to its memory limit, texture streaming can contribute to hitching even when the average FPS looks acceptable. Reduce textures one step and repeat a route that includes several areas; watch for both smoother frame delivery and loss of detail on uniforms, walls and cover. If frame-time behavior does not change, texture quality may not be the active bottleneck on your system.
View distance
View distance determines how far objects and detail remain visible. The settings reference notes that much of the world uses fixed draw distances for gameplay fairness, so raising this control should not be treated as a guaranteed long-range visibility advantage. Test distant geometry and target silhouettes rather than assuming the highest value is competitive. Lower it only when the performance gain is measurable and the resulting pop-in does not interfere with navigation or spotting.
VSync and the frame limit
VSync can remove visible tearing by synchronizing presentation with the display, but it may add input latency or impose a frame-rate cap. Turn it on and off in the same scene, then compare camera response and tear lines while watching frame-time behavior.

The frame-limit control is useful when an uncapped rate causes uneven delivery, excessive power use or temperature swings. A lower cap can make output more consistent if your system cannot hold the display’s refresh rate. Choose the combination that feels responsive on your monitor; neither VSync nor an uncapped rate is automatically superior.
Upscaling and dynamic resolution
Upscaling renders internally at a lower resolution and reconstructs the image, trading some image detail for performance. Dynamic resolution changes that internal resolution as load varies. Both can help a constrained GPU, but the cost is image clarity, especially on thin distant shapes and moving targets.
Evaluate an upscaler at your actual display resolution and normal combat distance. Check foliage, character outlines, weapon sights and text for shimmering or softness. Do the same with dynamic resolution during a busy fight, when the internal resolution may fall. Do not declare one upscaler best across all GPUs; reconstruction quality depends on the implementation, resolution and motion in your scene. If the current build offers frame generation, record whether it is enabled when comparing results, because its displayed FPS does not describe the same input path as rendered frames.
Brightness
Use the in-game calibration instruction: adjust brightness until the WARDOGS logo on the left is barely visible. This sets a consistent starting point for dark areas; it is not a competitive visibility exploit. After calibration, check a shadowed room and an outdoor scene so that raising brightness has not washed out contrast.

Audio, voice and sensitivity
SFX and VOIP have separate volume controls. Balance them so weapon and movement cues remain audible without masking team communication. These controls improve information and comfort, not GPU performance, so judge them by what you can hear in a real match.
Mouse sensitivity is adjustable. Change it in small steps and use the same turn, target transition and recoil-control tests each time. Sensitivity cannot raise FPS, but a controllable setting can make a stable frame rate easier to use. Treat audio and sensitivity as personal control choices rather than universal competitive values.
Choose a setting change by the symptom
FPS falls during explosions or crowded fights
- Test Effects first, then Shadows, using the same high-action scene.
- Check frame-time spikes rather than only the average FPS.
- If the GPU is saturated, test upscaling or dynamic resolution and verify that target outlines remain clear.
Movement feels uneven while the average FPS is high
- Inspect a frame-time graph for periodic spikes or a wide spread between fast and slow frames.
- Compare a sensible frame limit with uncapped output, and test VSync for your display.
- Repeat the run after closing background capture, overlays or other workloads that may interrupt delivery.
Distant targets are hard to identify
- Check brightness calibration and display sharpness before lowering every quality option.
- Compare View distance and upscaling at the same resolution; a higher distance value cannot overcome a soft reconstructed image.
- Inspect textures and effects for loss of silhouette or contrast, then keep the least costly combination that preserves those cues.
Video memory appears to be the limit
Lower Textures one step and test a route that loads several different areas. A reduction is useful when it removes streaming hitches; if it only makes surfaces blurry without improving frame delivery, restore the previous value and test another control.
Why WARDOGS can stutter when FPS looks high
Average FPS hides short stalls. A run can report a high mean while individual frames arrive late enough to make aiming or camera movement hitch. Diagnose the delivery pattern rather than chasing a larger average.
Best Value
- Compatible with Wide Screens - To ensure compatibility with the dual monitor mount, your each monitor must meet three conditions at the same time: First, computer screens size range: 13 to 32 inches. Second, screen weight range: 4.4 to 19.8 lbs. Third, the back of the monitor screen must have VESA mounting holes with a pitch of 75x75mm or 100x100mm.
- Regarding the compatibility with desks - Your desk must meet three conditions at the same time: First, desk material: Only wooden desks are recommended, plastic or glass desks cannot be used. Second, desk thickness range: 0.59" - 3.54". Third, the bottom of the desk should not have any cross beams or panels, as this will interfere with installation. We recommend carefully checking that your desk and monitors meets all above conditions before purchasing.
- Dual C-Clamp Hold - Worried your dual monitors might wobble or slip? Our upgraded base uses a larger platform plus a dual C-clamp structure to lock the dual monitor arm firmly to your desk. Each arm safely keeps your screens steady while you type, click and game—no shaking, no sliding, just a clean and secure setup you can trust every day. It also provides Grommet Mounting installation choice, both options ensure stable and secure fixation for your 0.59" - 3.54" desk.
- Full-Motion Adjustment For Comfortable View - Pull the screen closer when you’re deep in a spreadsheet, push it back to watch videos, or rotate to portrait for coding — moving everything smoothly with just one hand. The monitor stand offers +85°/-50° tilt, ±90° swivel and 360° rotation. Raise your monitor up to 15.75″ to support a healthy sitting posture. Whether you’re working from home, gaming through the night, or switching between video calls and documents, getting the screens to your natural line of sight helps relieve neck, shoulder and back strain so you can stay focused longer with less fatigue.
- Keep Your Desk Organized: By lifting both screens off the desktop, this dual monitor stand opens up valuable space for your keyboard, notebook, docking station or a simple, clutter-free work area. Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.
- Repeat the same combat route and watch frame-time, not just the FPS counter.
- Note whether stalls happen during asset-heavy traversal, effects-heavy combat or at regular intervals.
- Test Textures if the pattern resembles streaming, and Effects or Shadows if it appears only during heavy action.
- Try a frame limit to reduce oscillation between fast and slow frames, then compare input response.
- Retest with overlays, recording tools and unnecessary background applications closed.
- Check that the driver and game build are current, recording the versions so you can reproduce the result after an update.
Resolution, drivers, hardware and scene complexity all affect this diagnosis. A change that helps one machine may do nothing on another, which is why a repeatable route and recorded conditions matter.
Should you use Low settings for visibility?
Not automatically. Low settings can remove detail that helps distinguish a player from cover, flatten depth cues from shadows or make effects and distant surfaces harder to parse. They can also improve performance on a constrained system, and a steadier frame time may make aiming easier. The correct choice is the lowest cost that keeps silhouettes, cover edges and relevant effects readable in your fights.
Test Low against the next quality level at your actual resolution. Keep the higher level for any control that adds useful information without causing disruptive stalls; lower only the controls whose visual cost is acceptable. This produces a personal visibility-performance profile instead of a blanket Low preset.

Retest after updates and build changes
WARDOGS is in Early Access, so menu labels, rendering behavior and performance can change. The WARDOGS Tools page was verified on 29 September 2026, the WARDOGS Wiki guide was updated on 9 October 2026, and WARDOGS Playbook recorded the Steam listing on 13 September 2026. Those dates describe when the references were checked, not a permanent guarantee for every later build.
After a game update, driver update or resolution change, rerun the same combat scene and log the new conditions. Restore a setting only after checking both frame-time behavior and target readability. Developer remarks reproduced by WARDOGS Playbook describe optimization across a wide range of hardware and a custom framework intended for high-density 100-player warfare, with input latency treated as important; those statements explain the design goal, not a guaranteed result on your PC.
Quick Recap
A practical decision rule
- Set your intended resolution and calibrate brightness with the in-game logo test.
- Run a repeatable combat scene and record average FPS, frame-time behavior, clarity and responsiveness.
- Test Shadows, Effects, Textures, View distance, synchronization, frame limit and resolution tools one at a time, in the order that matches your symptom.
- Reject any change that hides a useful combat cue or introduces worse frame-time spikes.
- Keep a short settings log and repeat it whenever the game, driver or display setup changes.
