The clearest current mechanics established by official updates are its Jump Pack Dash attacks, introduced in Patch 11, and a Patch 12 perk change that can return a Jump Pack charge after a dash follow-up attack. Those updates do not establish a best build or a definitive weapon ranking, so check the perk descriptions in your current game version before committing to a setup.
How the Assault Jump Pack dash works
Patch 11 added Jump Pack Dash attacks as a distinct way to close in and attack. The official notes described them as quicker and more responsive than normal sprint attacks, and said their damage was increased by 50% compared with the test version. That 50% figure describes the change from the test version—not a general damage bonus over sprint attacks or a current damage statistic.
In practical terms, the Dash gives Assault another approach-and-attack option: use Jump Pack movement to enter melee, then follow through with an attack. The official notes cited here do not specify platform controls, so use the current in-game prompts for your platform rather than relying on a control mapping that may not apply.
What changed for Assault perks
Strong Strike: Patch 12
Patch 12 changed Strong Strike so that an attack after a Jump Pack Dash restores one Jump Pack charge. The effect has a 10-second cooldown. This creates a reason to connect with a follow-up attack after Dashing, but the cooldown means it is not an unrestricted charge refund.

Hammer of Wrath: moved to a Prestige Perk
Patch 12 moved Hammer of Wrath to a Prestige Perk. Do not assume an older guide showing it in a different place reflects the current perk layout.
Patch 9 changes: useful history, not a complete current tree
Patch 9 reworked Winged Fury, Defense Mechanism, Act of Attrition, Smiting Angel, and Hammer of Wrath. It also made Assault invulnerable during the ground-pound landed animation. These details explain earlier balance changes; they do not verify that every listed effect remains unchanged in the current version.

At the time of Patch 9, Game Director Dmitry Grigorenko said: “We heard your feedback regarding the Assault class being too weak and we agree, but to a point.” That comment belongs to the Patch 9 balance context, not a current assessment of Assault’s strength.
What are the best Assault perks in Space Marine 2?
The official updates cited here do not provide a complete current perk tree or enough evidence to name a best perk setup. Strong Strike is a clearly documented option if you want a charge-return effect tied to a successful attack after a Jump Pack Dash; its 10-second cooldown is part of that trade-off. For other choices, read the current perk text in-game and match the effects to how you use mobility, melee attacks, and ground pounds. Later balance updates may have changed older perk descriptions.

What weapon should Assault use?
Assault can use the one-handed thunder hammer, confirmed in Warhammer Community’s 1 October 2026 anniversary update. That confirmation does not establish that it outperforms the chainsword, power sword, or other available choices.
Compare weapons using the factors that matter to your play: current in-game damage, attack speed, crowd control, how the weapon feels alongside your Jump Pack use, and your comfort with its attacks. The official information cited here does not supply a comparative test or a weapon ranking, so treat the one-handed thunder hammer as a confirmed option rather than a proven best pick.

Which updates are relevant to this guide?
The latest dated update among the official sources cited here is Warhammer Community’s 1 October 2026 anniversary article. It confirms the one-handed thunder hammer for Assault but does not identify the update with a patch number. The official Confrontation Update article, dated 28 July 2026, identifies that release as Patch 14. The Dash and Strong Strike details above come from older Patch 11 and Patch 12 notes, respectively.
For the current perk wording and any balance changes after those notes, check the descriptions in your installed game and the latest official patch notes. The available official material does not establish a full current perk tree, platform-specific controls, a best-in-slot build, or a tested weapon ranking.
