The original Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 post-launch roadmap promised free gameplay updates, including new Operations, PvP maps and a Horde Mode, while reserving chapter-themed cosmetics for paid Season Pass content. That 2024 plan is now history: Year 2’s final major update arrived in July 2026, and Year 3 began with a free Chaos Siege Mode update on October 1, 2026. Focus Entertainment says a separate Year 3 roadmap is available, but its schedule and itemized contents are not detailed here.

What the original roadmap promised

Focus Entertainment published the initial roadmap on August 27, 2024. It divided planned content into free gameplay patches and paid cosmetic DLC, rather than making maps or modes dependent on a Season Pass purchase. The Space Marine 2 team stated that “All the gameplay additions listed here in the roadmap (including weapons, game modes, and maps) are intended to arrive in free game patches and will be accessible to everyone.” (official roadmap)

Season 2: planned for October through the end of 2024

The original Season 2 plan included a new Operations map, a new enemy, a harder difficulty, a new weapon and other improvements. These were announced as planned additions at the time, not as a current schedule.

2025 plans: Operations, PvP and Horde Mode

For 2025, the roadmap pointed to more Operations, PvP maps and modes including Horde Mode. A later publisher overview also named the Neo-Volkite pistol among planned free updates, alongside further PvE Operations, PvP maps and modes, and Horde Mode. (Focus Entertainment’s post-launch overview)

Free gameplay updates versus paid cosmetics

The roadmap’s access distinction is straightforward: the gameplay additions it listed were intended for free patches, while Season Pass content consisted of cosmetics. Focus later described Dark Angels chapter cosmetics as Season Pass content; its Year 2 announcement likewise characterized Season Pass II DLC as cosmetic. (original roadmap; Year 2 roadmap)

In practical terms, the original announcement did not say that players needed a Season Pass to access its planned modes, maps or weapons. The Season Pass track was for chapter-themed appearance options, not a paid gate for those promised gameplay additions.

How the roadmap expanded in Year 2

Focus announced six planned patches spanning 2025 and 2026. The plan included four Operations and a Siege map; three Eternal War arenas; Stratagems and Helbrute Onslaught modes; a Techmarine class; weapons and variants; enemies and bosses; and progression mechanics. Six was the publisher’s announced plan, not a claim that exactly six patches ultimately shipped. (Year 2 roadmap)

September 2025 Anniversary Update

The publisher said the update added the Vortex Operation and Mutalith Vortex Beast, the Bridge PvP arena, Stratagems PvE mode, Helbrute Onslaught PvP mode, three weapons, a Chaos Spawn enemy and other improvements. The accompanying Black Templars and Imperial Fists DLC packs were cosmetics. (Anniversary Update announcement)

Year 3 began with Chaos Siege Mode

The second Anniversary Update launched on October 1, 2026, marking the start of Year 3. It introduced free Chaos Siege Mode, which lets players take on PvE play as Chaos Space Marines, along with new progression mechanics. The announcement also mentions weapons, armor and Season Pass 3 cosmetics. (Year 3 announcement)

Focus says it released a full Year 3 roadmap separately. Its specific feature list and timing are not established by the announcement summarized here, so the 2024 roadmap should not be treated as a guide to the rest of Year 3’s schedule.

What the roadmap means for players

  • Horde Mode and other original gameplay additions were presented as free. That is the access promise in the August 2024 roadmap.
  • Paid Season Pass content was cosmetic. Focus described the chapter-themed DLC that way in its roadmap materials.
  • The original calendar is outdated. Subsequent updates added Operations, arenas, modes, weapons and enemies, and the publisher has since moved into Year 3.
  • Year 3’s detailed schedule should be checked in its own roadmap. The October 2026 announcement confirms that one exists but does not provide its full contents here.
